Where has the ac-pro codec gone in VP14

Wovian wrote on 11/28/2016, 5:25 PM

Hi Guys

I have been using VP13 and DVDA 5.2 without a problem and recently I've "upgraded" to VP14 and I'm ready to render my first project in VP14. (I have had major issues with TP4 but these are resolved now I think)

When I go to render the audio the ac-pro option is no longer there.  I thought I'd go back to VP13 which was the last time I saw it but when I open VP13 (build 373) its gone from there too!!!!!  (I originally loaded VP13 from disc and it definitely was there at that point) so I have some questions.  (I realise MAGIX have unilaterally decided to cut the ac-pro codec from VP14 and didn't tell anybody).

  1. It looks like I now have two instances of VP13 on my PC.  One in C\Program Files\Sony and another within C\program Files\Vegas.  The Sony version has the ac3plug and the ac3studioplug but the Vegas version only has the latter.  My guess is that VP13 located under the "Sony" folder is the one out of the box that worked before and the other is the "pirate" that installed somehow when I updated VP13 from the MAGIX website.  On futher inspection I can see that the Vegas folder only has FileOPlugins within it - nothing else???
  2. If I keep the version that enabled me to render using the ac-pro codec (provided I keep the right version) does that mean I can't use VP14 again or is there a workaround.  I read the post about the copy and pasting of the codec and it looks pretty scary to me.
  3. In VP14 I do get an option to render the audio in "Surround DVD".  Is this 5.1 sound and will I need to re-render this in DVDA5.2?
  4. My version of DVDA 5.2 has been deleted somehow in the install process.  I have posted a question elsewhere about recovering this.

Thanks

AC-3 Pro was always a part of DVDA never from Vegas Pro
DVDA 7 contains no longer an AC-3 Pro codec
You need to install an earlier version of Sony-DVDA to use the Codec in Sony-Vegas 13
or for use the workaround with Magix-Vegas Pro 14

Quitter, the OP says he had a working DVD A Pro 5.2 before installing MVP 14. So to repeat from another thread, we need to be clear on if and how Vegas Pro 14  restricts the functionality of DVD Architect Pro 5.2 if you have Sony VP 10 to 13.

I have VP13.453 and DVDA 5.2 here..., along with VP14.201...

And AC-3 Pro is still available to me.

Thank you set. So I gather you have it working in SVP13+ DVDAP 5.2 as pre Magix?

Yes, VP13.453 and DVDA 5.2 are still original SCS,. before Magix time...

Confirmed, you need the not-branded versions of Vegas Pro 13 and DVDA Pro.
To use it also in Vegas Pro 14 you need  Vegas Pro 13 and DVDA Pro and do the trick as described before by Quitter to insert it into Vegas pro 14. Maybe that looks pretty scary, but it isn't.

Not-branded = Sony Version

I'm runin SVP 13 build 453 + DVDA 6 and VP14 build 201 + DVDA 7 together on the same PC
SVP 13 has still the AC-3 Pro and VP 14 has it after the workaround

And you have to install DVDA after SVP, otherwise you have no AC-3 Pro in Vegas
The OP has reinstall SVP from disc as he wrote, he has to install DVDA again to get the codec in Vegas

Thanks for all of this guys but some of this isn't totally consistent with what I am seeing so can I ask some more questions?

  1. I can see the AC-3 Pro folder within the Sony list of files even though I do not have DVDA installed.  Is it generally accepted then that AC3-Pro is part of DVDA and not Vegas?  How can this be if DVDA is not installed?  I genuinely have no idea about this by the way and will be guided by you in this respect.
  2. I can see all of my previous Vegas/DVDA versions on my account page at MAGIX but I don't have the option to download DVDA 5.2.  Can you remember which version of Vegas this came with as DVDA 6 never worked for me or indeed how/where I could download DVDA 5.2?  The disc I have only includes DVDA  6 so I can't use it to download DVDA 5.2.  Vkmast you did provide me a link to download 5.2 a while back but I have been unable to download it.  I get an error message that "Microsoft Net Framework 3 is not installed".  What does this mean please?
  3. Does the "Quitter Trick" only work with DVDA 6 and not DVDA 5.2?  Sorry to keep referring to DVDA 5.2 but DVDA 6 has never worked for me.
  4. In VP14 I do get an option to render the audio in "Surround DVD".  Is this 5.1 sound and will I need to re-render this in DVDA5.2 (if I ever get to see 5.2)?

Quitter wrote on 11/29/2016, 6:06 AM

This is how it looks, if you never installed DVDA:

and this with DVDA:

Only rendering with AC-3Pro will you protect from re-rendering in DVDA

It's not my trick: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/ac3-pro-render-missing-in-vp14--103633/?page=2#ca640158
it should work with DVDA 5.2
http://download.sonymediasoftware.com/current/dvdarchitectpro52.exe
If Microsoft Net Framework 3 is not installed, you can download it from Microsoft

Vkmast you did provide me a link to download 5.2 a while back but I have been unable to download it.  I get an error message that "Microsoft Net Framework 3 is not installed".

Download it or install it? You may want to read from here:

https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/astebner/2011/10/02/mailbag-do-i-need-still-need-older-versions-of-the-net-framework-on-my-system-after-installing-the-net-framework-4/

The DVD A Pro 5.2 link above is build 124. Build 135 is https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/link?id=4671.1 (log in first to your SCS account and then click)

I tested both links (124 and 135) and was able to download both files.

Thanks Quitter (Not your trick) and VK.

  •  Looking at your two screen shots..........  I actually have both!  The first screenshot - "Never installed DVDA" is within C\program files\Vegas.  The other "And this with DVDA" is within C\program files\Sony.  (The Sony version has the ac3plug and the ac3studioplug but the Vegas version only has the latter). Also, the Vegas folder only has FileOPlugins within it - nothing else???
  • VK that's great to see the old Sony site again..... happy days!!!!!
  • My plan is to see if I can get back to VP13 and DVDA 5.2 again then check if I am still married as I have been spending every spare moment looking at the Vegas screen for the last month trying to get VP14/TP4/DVDA working again after the "upgrade" to VP14 and my wife thinks I must be on line dating or something sinister!
  • VK did you do the "trick" with VP14 or have you stayed with VP13 and DVDA 5.2?  I must say that I have always bought the VP upgrades for many years as I wanted to support the development but VP 13/DVDA 5.2 seems the safe option for me as I only make 4 or 5 home movies a year and the time I've lost is just ridiculous

I am still on Sony VP 13 build 453 and DVD A Pro 5.2, though I am trying to closely follow the comments by the early adopters regarding the progress of VP 14. Many of the forum members are doing a great job testing and helping the devs here.

You will need Microsoft Net framework 3 to be installed first.  Look for the service pack for Microsoft Net framework 3 and install that.  It will report that it cannot find 3 and offer to download & install 3 first. Accept.

Then install DVDA5.2

I have VP 13 and DVDA 5.2 back!!!  Phew!!!  You guys are great!

I have a couple more questions:

  1. Is there a way I can open the project I have finished on VP14 in VP13?
  2. If the answer to 1 above is "No" and I stay with VP14 for this project and render the audio in "AC-3 Studio, 5.1 Surround DVD" will I still be able to burn a blu ray in DVD 5.2 with 5.1 surround sound?  I don't mind if the audio has ro be re-rendered within DVDA 5.2? (Assuming I don't complete the "Trick")

Thanks

  1. No
  2. I personally haven't experiment this, as I never work with surround. - but perhaps you can try test render small part.
