Why are my all my events ungrouped?

huskereurocat wrote on 3/23/2021, 4:46 PM

I've seen a lot of posts where someone has inadvertently pressed the ignore event grouping button, but that isn't the case here. After working with my project for a few days now, all of my video clips have been ungrouped from their corresponding audio file, like the 'ignore grouping button is activated. It is not! Do I have to go back and regroup every clip in my project now or is there some setting that I'm missing here?

Search the Vegas Pro Video forum.
You may have to try resetting VP to the factory defaults if it as not just a 'pilot error'. IF that's the case, you may have a back-up <.bak> project file to fall back on if it was enabled.
Confirm you have the latest VP build as well.

Resetting instructions here.

And most likely not the case here, but remember that in the two latest versions you can "temporarily ignore event grouping when moving an event: Hold both the left and right mouse buttons as you drag an event to move it independently from other group members".

Thank you vkmast, a very useful piece of information that I for one did not know.

@huskereurocat Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree but in your image isn't the "Temporarily Ungroup" button activated?

That's the lock envelopes to events button. The ignore grouping button is to the right of that.

that button is Lock envelopes to event.

the Ignore Event Grouping button is the right one.

So far I tried, the b482 works normally like usual. Could be human error where accidentally pressed U when selecting the clips? That's so far I can think...

EDIT: @huskereurocat replied faster 😀

@huskereurocat, try in new project, put again the clips you are working, and then move it. Is it still 'ungrouped'?

If I reset, I have to start from square one correct? Load all preferences and VASST Event Tools?

Every clip in the project? I wouldn't bet on the fact that it was human error. I don't have every clip in the entire project selected, ever.

Going to try the new project thing and see if it happens again though.

Reset and all the clips in the entire project are still ungrouped.

Tried the whole start a new project thing and the video and audio are grouped. A little strange that all the markers from the original project showed up on the timeline as well.

What you see are "saved markers".

My guess would be that while you had everything selected, you accidentally pressed "U" and ungrouped them. If the program hasn't been opened and closed, you could always "undo" back to that point if that's the case. I'd definitely save to a new file name before doing that.

Possibly, but we'll never know now. I went through every clip in my project and re grouped them. It took a while to do but the result was satisfactory. Thanks for the suggestion.
