Will an upgrade help me with my rendering problems

I am considering upgrading to a newer version of Vegas, but will it solve my problems? Here is what I tried to ask technical support, but they no longer answer questions about Vegas Platinum 9.0 --
---------------
I just bought a new machine with 12 gb memory and an IE7 3.4gHZ processor. I tell you this because I just completed a 6 minute HD video project, and I cannot get the thing to render without an error message shutting the program down or hanging. Now, there ARE multiple events on the video timelines, but I thought the hardware could handle this. The knowledge-base suggests that maybe it's my video card (I have a NVDIA GeForce GT 545) so do I need a better one? Obviously, I am frustrated. Can you help?

Can anybody give some advice? Thanks!

Dean,
why not test with the free trial version of Movie Studio Platinum 12 ( 32-bit or 64-bit)?

With 12 gig of ram I would think rendering would go pretty quickly.

I noticed rendering was much quicker on my 4gig Dell laptop than my 1.5 gig internet machine dinosaur.
Maybe update all your drivers first.
As a shot from the hip determine if some program running in the background is slowing things down. (IE antivirus).

Good luck.

Amount of memory has very, very little to do with rendering speed.

Thanks Chienworks.......

I was under the wrong impression based on older posts here and didn't mean to mislead the OP.

Then Is CPU, driver updates and programs running in background relevant?

Learneth, learneth....carry on.

I will give it a try. Thanks!

Thank you for the quick response, chulaivet1966. Great advice! Actually, rendering has been quicker than on my previous machine, so I am very pleased with that.

I believe the program is running into speed bumps early on in the rendering process (like at 3 %) and then the time remaining clock goes off in to hours and hangs.. or Vegas just crashes.

But I will try what you suggest. Is Windows 7 okay for updating drivers?

Well...based on what Chienworks states I'm not so sure of the efficacy of my suggestions.

Anywhooo.....my internet machine (winxpSP3) would take an hour or so to render a 35 minute video with pics, a 5 minute film segment and audio.
I moved all info to my laptop with 4gig Win7 and it took like 20-25 minutes so that was my reference.

If It gets to just 3% then hangs or crashes I'm wondering if you should just update any relevant drivers then uninstall/re-install Vegas....then see what happens.

If your video card is a PCI card then I'd definitely do that.
Other than that I'm SOL for further tips.

Hope that helps...
