Window View options and frequent crashing

VMS 16 Platinum, Build 175

  • I am experiencing crashes at least once a day (I have been spending several hours per day in my project since buying this software a few days ago). Is this to be expected? If so, is there a refund policy?
  • At some stage I was able to view transitions, etc., within the docked window (panel), in a tree view. Right now I only have an icon view showing all the transitions as large icons but with no apparent option to change this view. I've looked in the manual and tried all the menus but I can't find how to change the view.

With regard the crashes, how much of a performance penalty is there for using "Live Save"? Also, I have set the Advanced Save as shown in the attached image but have yet to see any backups appearing in the specified folder (considerably more than the 5 minutes I have set). Should I revert to the basic automatic save?

By the way - does this forum have a way to filter searches so that I only get results for VMS and not all the other products?

Funny, I could have sworn I had seen that tree view. Maybe on a tutorial if it used to be available. But thanks for the confirmation. I'll take a look at those posts on crash troubleshooting.

By the way, that Right-Click on the Transition overlap workaround works nicely - shows me the tree view that I wanted. Thanks.

I did have a look at the FAQ you suggested regarding potential causes for crashing but it seems to me to be one of those cases where the cure is worse than the disease. The list of recommended actions would take a week to go through and includes some fairly drastic steps. TBH, if a user is advised to take all those precautions then there's something wrong with the software design and/or that user is better off tolerating the occasional crash and getting into the habit of saving after edits.

Finally had my fill of the crashing. Have followed your links and requested a refund. Can't work with something that has a spinning blue circle several times in every editing session.
