20 crashing all the time for anyone else?

Vegas 20 keeps crashing, never ever payed for software that crashes this much. I crashes at least every hour. Updated drivers. Rock stable computer with 64GB ram, Nvidia 2070, 8 cores.

Can I get my money back?

@Ola-Forsslund, and yet on my system VEGAS Pro 20 is so stable I often forget to save until much later than I should. So there's definitely a conflict somewhere that we might be able to help you with if you wanted to provide more details. For example, what are the details on the types of footage you are using?

Jetdv, would be nice to know your system and typical media you use as V20 is so stable, your sig does not tell you. Thanks Andy.

Well, with Vegas, one has to spend lot of our time doing research on how to prevent crashes. It is everybody's fault but Magix's. Your hard disk driver, your graphics card driver, your usb driver, memory settings... their support will simpky blame all on your PCs driver. i m using vegas since sony days, version 11 and crashes have been part of all my projects.

Vegas is not a good software in my opinion.

Vegas was good software. I just wish I didn't spend my whole life editing in it cause now they got me by the balls.

They introduced a serious regression in post V19 550 build. It's not my system, it's Vegas. I'm a software developer, I've gone in and looked at the callstack and given Magix plenty of dump files. Why they can't resolve it is beyond me, looks like null reference but without symbols I can't tell much more..

For now V20 is pointless to me unfortunately I bought a full license thinking my issues were resolved in 214 build until I started building a new project with multiple formats.

I'm sticking to V19 550 for now, been editing a 20-minute project for last week without an issue (well occasional hang but I've learned to live with that). I've jumped through all their video driver hoops. I built a $3600 system just to run Vegas and it was flawless until they introduced the crash regression in V19 643.

I have different viewpoint. I've found VP20 to be quite smooth in operation and as far as crashing, just once. I've even tested other users files that caused issues with them on my computer (spec below), and usually go a little further in trying to get Vegas to crash by adding Boris, NBFX, Ignite and whatever 3rd party plugins I can add to make things "difficult". So far so good.

Anecdotal: a friend that I introduced to Vegas a couple of years ago who does corporate video for a large company in Belgium told me working with VP20, he hasn't had one crash yet on his "old" computer, and he is editing every day.

As for drivers, I've remained with AMD WHQL drivers and not gone to the newest "latest and greatest" gaming driver and everything is working fine. One reason is Ignite Pro 5, a FXHome plugin that is no longer supported by them (bummer considering they said get ready for something "new" that hasn't materialzied in a year), has problems. But my transition to using BorisFX Continuum Complete will solve that issue. It's just Ignite is simpler to use and fast.

So... fingers crossed that everything will continue working. I don't mind a crash once in a while. It happens, even with the best software. A trip to any of their forums will point this out. I hope that Vegas will continue to advance, albeit at a slower pace to make sure everything is working as it should before public release.

And yet, I installed it and it simply works. No changes anywhere.

And issues often ARE caused by video drivers...

Video source is generally GoPro 9 and DJI Mavic Air.

I got 64GB of ram on an 8 core Ryzen 5800 with an RTX 2070 Super. I do not have any problems with any other program or game. It's only Vegas. Vegas crashed less before update 214.

In crash report, different "Fault module" are reported. Sometimes I don't even get at fault window.

Sometimes when Vegas crashes, it eats memory, windows eventlog reporting "The following programs consumed the most virtual memory: vegas200.exe (17188) consumed 65 991 569 408 bytes".

I too haven't experienced a bunch of crashes. Even when I test problematic footage from others who post them in the forum, no crashes. And I usually add something from Boris, NBFX or Ignite Pro to the clips to see if that will trigger a crash. No.

I don't have any GoPro or Mavic Air footage to test, but will certainly give it a go on my system listed in my signature below.

It's about to get even more stable with this next update, which also has an unusual number of new features added, I've seen full version releases that didn't have this many new features.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)
