A query about CPU Upgrade

Mohammed_Anis wrote on 3/23/2021, 11:26 PM

This is my DXDIAG Info

My Sky Lake i7-6700k remains a reliable CPU to this day, despite being 4 or 5 generations older then the recommended specs for VEGAS PRO.

It's both a testament to the cpu and VEGAS' incredible performance value as a software package.

But, I am eventually going to get into an 8K camera system given the radical decisions taken at the workplace.

So, it's time to consider an upgrade.

This will be my first time venturing into the AMD side of the CPU world. Intel's been swell but I'm not really impressed with the recent releases .

My question is:

Would a Ryzen 7 5800X suffice or do I throw in a lil more buck to get the 3900x?

Basically, my timeline is as follows:

April: Purchase Motherboard & CPU and possibly a new power supply. (This is my current one, but I understand AMD is more power hungry)

May: Purchase NVME Storage (I only have regular SSDS)

Open to suggestions.

Vegas uses Intel decoding for many formats so Rocket Lake might be most compatible and even hardware decode 422, something AMD and NVIDIA can't yet do I believe.

Custom PC (2022) Intel i5-13600K with UHD 770 iGPU with latest driver, MSI z690 Tomahawk motherboard, 64GB Corsair DDR5 5200 ram, NVIDIA 2080 Super (8GB) with latest studio driver, 2TB Hynix P41 SSD, Windows 11 Pro 64 bit

Dell XPS 15 laptop (2017) 32GB ram, NVIDIA 1050 (4GB) with latest studio driver, Intel i7-7700HQ with Intel 630 iGPU (latest available driver), dual internal SSD (256GB; 1TB), Windows 10 64 bit

VEGAS Pro 19.651
VEGAS Pro 21.108

What's weird about it is that AMD DOES support 444 and apparently at a stellar performance.

But not 422.

I'm not sure what they're aiming for.

As far as the CPU comparisons go, here is a recent TechGage article comparing Vegas and other NLEs with different modern CPUs.

as always the Vegas benchmarking project is here (click on the screenshot of the results):

I see Ryzen 7, 9 and modern Intels in the comparison.

Your link is redirecting to a http://https://.... so many people wont be able to get it...

Anyway, My desktop is an I7-4700 (many many years old) and Vegas works very good....

I think it's more important to use fast M2 disks...

Fixed- usually the forum software is good about URLs.
