Audio Screeching After Update

Antearion-DarShae wrote on 6/19/2023, 9:33 PM

Just download and install the update hoping it will fix the issue I have with the program crashing every time I press the back button. Instead it gave me an even worst problem. Now some of my audio is screeching and crackling bad. I want to reverse the update it's so bad. Why every update you break the program even more. We pay like $40 a month to have it working smoothly 1/4 of the time. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Change the audio driver in use in VEGAS preferences?

Change the audio driver in use in VEGAS preferences?

How would I go about doing that?

RogerS wrote on 6/19/2023, 9:41 PM

Not in front of VEGAS at the moment. I assume you went to options/preferences and looked at the audio tabs?

Yes I did. Clicked on everything and nothing fixed it. Everything was perfect (audio wise) and now I don't know why only certain files are effected.

A different one here didn't help?

For workarounds, if you're using mp3s try converting them to wav files. Certain mp3s don't work well in VEGAS (sometimes for some people).

@Antearion-DarShae Please clarify. Is the problem confined to files of the same type? If so please post Media Info on one of your problem files https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

Yea tried all the ones there. The funny this is, all the files worked before the update. Everything was fine. Also it doesn't explain why some of the same file types work and some don't.

I'll hazard a guess that the audio events with screeching are all .mp3 files. If so, use the forum's search facility to search for "mp3 screeching" as screeching with mp3 audio has caused problems for some in Vegas Pro for many years and for a variety of reasons. Using the afrementioned keywords, this is what I get:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum-search/?query=mp3%20screeching

If you have Sound Forge Audio Studio installed, this can be a cause of the mp3 problem and there is an easy fix that involves a registry edit: https://www.magix.info/us/forum/audio-issue--1290482/#ca1738999

Hopefully, one of the solutions will work for you.

Holy crap you right. It is every mp3 file. All the audio that is fine are from mp4s. I'm try out the links you sent.

Okay so I deleted the Sound Forge Audio and rest with Ctrl-Shift and now it gives an error about Microsoft Edge can't open data directory. So I guess the next step is uninstall reinstall?

Dexcon wrote on 6/20/2023, 2:45 AM

... I deleted the Sound Forge Audio and rest with Ctrl-Shift ...

In the registry, it is only the single "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > ASIO > Magix Low Latency 2016" folder that needs to be deleted - nothing more. The usual way to delete such a folder is to highlight it and hit the Delete key on the keyboard. I'm not sure what Ctrl-Shift does nor what it meant by "and rest".

I had to do this some years ago when I got the mp3 screeching issue with a new release of Vegas Pro (18 I think) and just deleting the Magix Low Latency folder from the registry did not cause any side issues at all with any other programs.

Holding control-shift while starting VEGAS resets the program.

Just in case, the full resetting instructions.

Yes I deleted the Magix Low Latency 2016 folder, and rebooted up the program and nothing changed. Ctrl-Shift resets the program and once I did it wouldn't let me drag any media files into the program. Popped up an error and then crashed. Once I tried to open the save file I had it goes back to the audio issues. At this point I'm gonna do a full uninstall and reinstall and never update this program again. I had less issues with the high-sea version and now I pay $40 to deal with more problems in the legit product. Anyway thank you for your help.

EricLNZ wrote on 6/20/2023, 6:35 PM

@Antearion-DarShae Was your "high-sea" version installed previously on the same machine you are now having problems with Vegas?

RogerS wrote on 6/21/2023, 12:52 AM

Not being able to drag in media suggests it's installed as an administrator- uncheck that.
