benefits of Vegas 19 vs. 13

Sarah-Doyon wrote on 3/1/2022, 9:55 AM

My daughter has been using Vegas Pro 13 for several years. I bought her an upgrade to 19, but she doesn't want to use it because it's different enough that she's saying she's good with 13. What are some things that she can do with 19 that she cannot with 13 that would make her want to switch? Thanks.

Part of the problem was 19 was crashing. Got a new computer, but that didn't help.

The obvious and intuitive things are that :

the V19 rendered video no longer has any more contrast than the preview;

Second, V19 plugins can now be set as favorite;

Third, the V19 UI is darker and more stylish;

The fourth one is that V19 has motion tracking.

Just to confirm: is her "Vegas 13" actually Vegas Pro 13 or Vegas Movie Studio 13 (basic or Platinum) which was more "consumer-oriented" and restricted than Vegas Pro? Vegas MS products were discontinued last year and replaced by a different product (now marketed by MAGIX as Movie Studio 2022).

@Sarah-Doyon
If you want to do something about crashes, there are some tutorials here that describe some hints to get around this: See Point 8, 15 or 16 of this tutorial, depending on what occasions your PC crashes. :

If this does not help, it is better to start a new thread and describe the situation exactly when the computer crashes and what you do before. it is important to know what system environment Vegas Pro is running under, and what media files are being processed.
Here is a roadmap of what can be required - see B and C:

A few notable improvements:

Color Grading (WAY better color tools than 13)

Far better GPU acceleration, faster renders

Motion tracking

Improved transitions

Optical Flow slow motion

AI tools like upscaling, colorizing black and white footage, style transfer (make video look like any painting style)

I could go on and on and on, but there's quite a lot more under the hood. What kind of videos is she making? That might help me target some new feature recommendations.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

Introduction of GPU accelerated renders, 360 support, and higher frame size rendering finally coaxed me away from V13. I never really used V14 or V15, started using the second or third release of V16 regularly for renders and some editing, and discovered I'd stopped using V13 completely sometime in the V17 or V18 years.

VP 19 works much better with files from phones, with support for formats like HLG that I don't think would even open in 13. GPU encoding should mean smoother playback.

There's no real learning curve for 13 to 19, almost all the controls are in the same place and work the same way.
