Cannot Install NewBlueFX

Saltyman, if you are running the 64bit version of MS then you didn't "accidently" install it in Program Files. This is the default location for 64 bit applications. Program Files (x86) is for 32 bit applications.

So forcing your 64bit MS to install in the 32bit folder is a kludge to work around a glaring bug in the NewBlueFX installer which seems unable to recognise a 64bit MS installed in the location to which it automatically defaults. Therefore a brand new install of MS Platinum Suite fails to work with NewBlueFX straight out of the box.
I find it unbelievable that this got past the QA team and onto retail shelves in this state, and even more unbelievable that this mess has still not been sorted out weeks later. As for Sony's continued lack of any response, well that is reprehensible. Great brand damage guys - not going to buy any of your hardware if this is the level of support I should expect.

And I'm not prepared to uninstall MS (which is now set up as I want it), and install it in what feels like the wrong folder, and then configure it all again. How about you fix your buggy installer New Blue?

I'm running a new computer Win 8 64 bit. I installed SMS Platinum 12 64 bit and didn't run into the issue with my NB plugins installation. Not sure why. I have the ones that came with SMS Plat 12/Titler Ex installed along with several FULL NB packages purchased direct from NB.

So, there is something else going on here too. Did you have the 32 bit of VMS11 installed previously?

For anyone having issues installing the MSPPS package, please try this process:

1. Uninstall the MSPPS package
2. Uninstall Movie Studio
3. Install the current version of Movie Studio
4. Install this MSPPS version:
http://www.newbluefx.com/downloads/Sony/Beta/NewBlueSonyVegasMSPPS12Setup14-121130.exe

Does that work?

This worked for me.

It also fixed a problem where half or more of my fonts were not working in Titler EX.

I uninstalled everything, deleted all Sony and New Blue folders from the Program Files and Program Files(x86) folders, removed associated registry entries, rebooted, installed MSPS build 576, registered it, then installed NewBlueSonyVegasMSPPS12Setup14-121130.exe.

Some of that may have been overkill, but finally after 6 weeks I have an installation of MS with NewBlue VideoFX and NewBlue Titler EX showing up in the product.

Thank you.

Following jetdv instructions exactly as stated, not being smart enough to do all Seacube did, I was successfull with the installation.

However, I think the NewBlueFx Picture-in-Picture is not being included this time which is a real disappointment to me. Anyone know if Pic-in-Pic was intentionally left out?

THANKS jetdv.

I recant my above success story. The only plug-ins that appear our 32-bit and there is no 64-bit or Picture-In-Picture plug-ins.

Even worse, I bought the NewBlueFX Video Essentials VI for PIP and can't get any of these 64-bt plug-ins to appear in MSPPS 12. I think both Sony and NewBlueFX have way to many bugs, lack thorough testing and even make Microsoft look good.

Purchased packages from NewBlue are available in both 32-bit and 64-bit. There's no reason why the PIP effect in Video Essentials 4 won't work in SMS12. Just install the "OpenFX 64-bit" option and you'll find it in SMS12-64bit the next time you start it.

I know I'm a little late on all this, but I seem to have a different problem. I ordered the Suite version, and received the suite version, however when I installed it I only got the Platinum version, so no NewBlueFx at all. I checked the disc and the installer. The installation window says it's the suite version on the right, but I can only install the Platinum version. I attempted to contact Sony on this, and due to the AMAZING customer service, I found they couldn't help at all. I also tried contacting Amazon (the seller) and t hey told me they'd look at it, but they never got back. it seems no one can find an answer to this. Cony told me I needed a separate serial number for the NewBlueFx, however even if I had it I couldn't find where to put it since I only have the basic platinum version. Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, do you have an answer?

NB FX along with other software are separate items included as part of the Suite. When you order direct from Sony they are included, as separate items, in your download list. Looks like Amazon possibly didn't give you all you purchased?

I wish to install these plug-ins - but fear I could upset my PC / SMS.v12PS [ Build 895.], if I get it wrong.
My first action was to run SMS and Help "Install Plug-ins" - but that doesn't appear to offer anything, digging deeper and it will teach you how to perform Transitions (on the timeline) = Not much help.
On this Website much the same again,
- You'd think that performing this action would be reasonably regular event - so why isn't there a part of Help that can get you going? It may be that I need to locate where SMS is installed - I still don't really know that since it replies User/User (or similar!), whereas when I look at C-drive I have Users ( or similar!).
It's very confusing, when you are unsure and to date has put-off the use of 3rd party plugins as well as any that Sony releases ( do they?).

INSTALLING PLUG-INS
Where can I get a simple guide to this?

I'm hoping to use the NewBlue website link - but want to be a jump ahead when / if I'm given choices, etc.
( I have to say that newBlue replies are next day=pretty quick....but then they are hoping I'll buy more. ) . . . I have no complaints about help given on these Forums, just wonder why these actions aren't more obviously included in Help.

Lastly, if it doesn't install correctly - how can I check this? - And how can I remove it - as others have suggested reloading SMS was needed....

PS found BMyers(dot)com has a useful insight to finding the Plug-in manager.

@UKharrie,
if you did manage to find your serial number for the Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite NewBlueFX bundle, download and install this file
http://www.newbluefx.com/downloads/Windows/NewBlueSonyVegasMSPPS12Setup14-131212.exe

The installation discs probably have non-working or outdated versions.

Thanks vkmast, I've got a NB-link, What I lack iare the process steps necessary to create the folders so I could add Plug-Ins - I see that there are quite a few out there and on this Website Sony has quite a few for sale - but it's almost like they want to keep it secret.
BMyers website is the best I could find - and I was hoping there was something better about - as people that know often will miss out several steps, almost without realising it.

Run the installer file and follow the instructions/on-screen prompts.
For NBFX use the linked file, not "a link".
jetdv wrote on 2/28/2015, 10:26 AM
There are no "steps" necessary to "create folders" or anything else. Just run the installer, follow the prompts, and everything will be properly installed into the proper locations.

I upgraded to Imagination Suite 4 with a fresh install onto a new PC. Its comes with Movie Studio 12 Platinum as part of the Suite.

I am having the same issue. I submitted tickets to Sony and no response.

I also submitted tickets to New Blue/ They did respond, but so far there hasn't been anything helpful to resolve the problem. I am still working with them.

Big bummer for me, since I upgraded m Sony Software to have the New Blue FX. I also own Final Cut Studio Pro 7 and Avids Pinnacle Studio.

Just came back to Edit this message with the e-mail I received from New Blue's Tech Support:

"We have an issue with the installer right now where it is not properly detecting SMS12 as being installed. Apparently it recognizes the initial build of SMS12 but not the newest build. I am trying to get this resolved and get a new build. When I have one, I will let you know.

I hope you find this information helpful.

This was my post in 2012. It's now 2021. Neither Sony or New Blue Tech, ever resolved this for me. NewBlue Inc. Edward Troxel and others, really dropped the ball on this. They could of given me an updated version, or even sent me a password that worked. The password provided in my documents from Sony has never worked, even after I got the software able to install up to the password request. I never intend on using New Blue products into the future, no matter the size of project or who I am working with, I simply have no faith in them, even 10 years later.
