Dolby Digital AC-3 Studio Plugin download error -1

Wayne-Muzzy wrote on 11/25/2020, 4:40 PM

Rendering audio on Vegas Pro 17 using AC-3 plugin. Get pop-up saying "The selected encode format requires the download of an add-on software module the first time the format is used." Click Yes to proceed. After clicking yes I get a pop-up saying: "Installation failed, code: -1" It recommends re-launching the program as a sys admin which I did. I got the same result. I need to understand the source of this failure and a path to correct it. If anyone has any advice on this issue please let me know. Thanks much. Wayne

@Wayne-Muzzy Maybe check out this thread, there is an issue going forward with AC-3 support, although it may only be an issue with vp18?

+1. As mentioned in that thread the VEGAS team advice is to transcode this media so the audio does not use AC-3.

Really!! I think there is something I am missing here like: "an issue going forward with AC-3 support," I am guessing from these posts that Vegas isn't supporting now, or in the future, any AC-3 codec's despite it being in the list as a render option in V17. I was hoping there was an easier solution like the OS was rejecting the download due to some permissions issue. Thanks for the thread reference JN but I would really like to find an easier solution than having to write my own scripts. And thanks vkmast for the input. Much appreciated.

@Wayne-Muzzy “write my own scripts” I supplied a download link so you don’t have to do that, its in my last post in that thread, maybe I caused more confusion by also supplying the on screen syntax! Anyway, I agree it is an unexpected development, the Vegas team did say that in the future there may be a workaround for it, but at the moment transcoding is their suggestion.

JN. Perhaps I choose words that were not appropriate. Yes, you provided the script and the syntax but I have been down this road before with scripts. You have to understand that syntax and what it is doing and if by some chance a comma or period gets out of place and it fails then you have to troubleshoot it. If you are well versed in script syntax then that troubleshooting would be quick. I am not well versed in script syntax and when I try to troubleshoot one it usually turns into a big time sink. I am not saying yours would do that but I would really like try something easier before I give your solution a whirl. I have not taken it off my radar and again I really appreciate the input.

The ImportAssist tool in HappyOtterScripts can easily do that. It copies the video and only recodes the audio. Here's a demo importing 5.1 AC3 into Vegas. (Two-cvhannel audio also works.).

@wwaag You probably meant to say and only red codes the audio.
