Feeling ripped off from Sony and Borix

Kimberly-Durecki wrote on 5/10/2021, 12:52 PM

What a shame, I have purchase so much from Sony in the last 10 years as well as from BorisFX, to only now find out that so many of the packages I have purchased do NOT work when I upgrade to the newest sony vegas software. I have contacted BorisFx becase my FXs that I need do not work with Vegas 17 and there is the response I get> "

"Vegas 17 does not support any BCC license older then 2020.  A BCC 8 license will not work with Vegas 17.  If you are looking to activate it on Vegas 17 then you will need to upgrade that license.

Also just a heads up as of June any BCC licenses older then V10 will no longer be upgradable."

All money down the drain. Guess I wont be upgrading sony or purchasing form BorisFx ever again.

Sony (SCS) has nothing to do with the VEGAS versions since v.14.

I wouldn't expect them to work with Sony Vegas since that software hasn't been around for over 4 years? So there is no upgrade for Sony... nor has there been for some time now.

As for Boris FX. When you bought a "suite" and they came with it, it was only for that suite only and nowhere does it say it will travel with the next version. Many have bemoanded the issues of have say 16 suite and upgrade to 17 suite for the 17's BFX to wreck havoc on 16's.

What I did was just buy Continuum complete. Boris offered me a great price on Black Friday that I could not refuse. Now, Continuum 2021 works in 17 and 18.

Money isn't down the drain. You can continue to use what you have in what it works in. You can't expect any company to remain in business without selling something.....

I always call it Sony Vegas, habit. Anyways, BorisFX when I was using "Vegas Pro 16" but when I upgraded to Vegas Pro 17, my BorixFX did not work anymore with 17. Sorry, if I purchased it, it should roll over to the updated Sony software.

@Kimberly-Durecki please note CR 2. Note: "The editors and moderators of this website reserve the right to edit content in order to change the arrangement of information on topics". In this case it means we may be inclined to edit "Sony Vegas" comments as the VEGAS Team advises that "they want to avoid the appearance of misusing a brand that isn't theirs". Thank you for considering this.

And why should it? Did it work in the version you bought? And of course, it would not "roll over" to Sony software since there is no such thing....

You problem is with Boris and not Vegas. It is BorisFX that limits the use of it's plugins to the version of Vegas that you bought. Complaining about it here does nothing. Write BorisFX and tell them what you think, how their plugins should work in every version that you upgrade to. I'd be interested in their polite response, which I already know what it will be.

With each vegas version there are often goodies thrown in to attempt users to upgrade. From experience these goodies only work with that version. Prior to upgrading you need to decide if you really need the latest tool set. Plus there is always the option of a frèe 30 day trial, and some rigorous testing.

I did contact them first, if you look at my origional post it said this is their response:

As you see, putting the blame on Vegas and this is why I came to to forum since you can not talk to a customer service represenative and it is all through email, which on both accounts is horrible customer service.

Understood, but as i said these were ones I PURCHASED from BorisFX. Their bundles are hundreds of dollars. You would think since you purchased the lifetime license that it would still work from vegas 16 to vegas 17. These are not ones that Vegas gave you with their upgrade. A upgrade should never disqualify you for products that they support. Sorry it is not right.

This issue is about 2 years old at this point and I have explained the problem previously. For VP 17, we were forced to change the FX host id for our plugin engine for legal reasons (since it still contained the name of the previous owner of VEGAS Pro). We gave all of our FX partners, including Boris, over 6 months of lead time, before this change took effect in order to prepare them for the issues that may occur and for creating updates to any host locked plugins that may be affected. Plugins which are host locked only work for a specific product based on a host ID. Host locking a plugin is handled within the plugin, not within VEGAS, The decision is up to the creators of the plugin whether to host lock it and to provide an update that could work with VP 17 and future releases. In some cases, the plugin developers chose not to do this. That is a business decision on their end and nothing that we can control.
