Forum Update: A Basic Search Function

Dear community,

The day has come: the search function is live.

As of today, we have implemented a basic search function. This first version of the search is for searching through thread titles, thread descriptions and comments. Like I said, this is just the first version of the search function. In the future, we will develop and offer more search and filter possibilities.

Update Nov. 2nd 2016:

I wanted to share a little update we rolled out just now.

search by users is available now
search for exact phrases – example: "search phrase"
search and exclude a word – example: search -phrase
search and add a word – example: search +phrase
search with a random prefix – example: *abc
search with a random suffix – example: abc*
search with a random prefix and suffix – example: *abc*

Also, you can combine the search options – for example: "vegas pro" +proDAD

Thanks Mathias. I also notice the quote bug has gone (if you jump to the last post). Has anything else been fixed or changed?

Thanks. I notice if I "search" "basic search function" or basic search function it returns 23362 results (and 20 mins later 41K+).

The online green and offline, last login in profile are nice though.

At the moment it appears to be searching any word in your search string, even if you use quotes, and not presenting the results in any particular sequence. Hence it's only useful for a search for a rarely used word like "bratwurst". Looking forward to some search filters!

Yes indeed. Besides the multitude of results, I see in results posts dated 10/11/2016. When I click one of those, it's actually from 2005, and there are more of the same.

Btw, searching site:vegascreativesoftware.info basic search function..2016 with Google gave me 84 results.

Google removed the quotes.

After a few search tests, as vkmast mentioned, I see that all of the results show today's date? Also, the results are listed oldest to most recent -- shouldn't it be the other way around? Most recent first?

please notice that every search result with a "RE:" is a comment. Therefore it doesn't show the creation date of the thread but the creation date of the comment.

Right now the results are not listed from oldest to most recent or the other way around. The results are ordered by search string matching.

Like I said, this is a basic search function. When you search for a phrase every word will be searched individually.
We will implement a function to find the exact phrase but this will be done at another time.

No "RE" in here. The post and comment are from 2004. There are other examples.

Any chance the search results can be ranked by date? The results at the moment are apparently ranked randomly..

Besides that and others previously promised or mentioned, filters we learned to use and love in a former life such as searching by forum/section and by user would also be welcome.

Agreed Nick. However, need to have this as combined filter with others:

Date Range
Topic
Forum

Similar to the old SCS searching filters/features would be a good place to start.

Truly appreciate all the work done so far on the new Search of course.

And "Direct Link" (RC>copy link address) is a great feature and can be used with results from the archive search.

For anybody who didn't notice it yet. We've added the option to search within a time period. Just click on "Options" (to the right) to see the menu.
