Movie Studio 15 Platinum. build 116

Hello, does anyone know how to change the menu appearance? The best I can get is black text on a dark grey background. I just cannot fathom the thinking behind such a difficult to read scheme. For me, it means the software is just about unuseable.

How do you want to change it?

The program can be set to white text on a black background, black text on a light gray background, the timeline can be positioned at the top of the program or at the bottom of the program and you can break off the individual panels and arrange them any way you want -- and then save that layout as your default.

Can you be a bit more specific about what you're trying to do with it?

Where are you seeing black text on dark grey?

hamilton-white wrote on 6/27/2018, 7:29 AM

It's all black against grey in most areas, just legible and no more, but the dropdown menus have very dark grey background.Curiously, the actual menu bar is light grey as is normal in Windows. It would prefer everything to be the Windows black on light grey.

I just want to be able to easily see the menus etc - just as I can with this forum web page.

Interface type light option is selected, incidentally.

If I open DVD Architect, everything is fine - black text on light grey - easy to read, but Vegas Movie is a nightmare.

Oh dear. I regret buying this now. The developers seem quite hostile to complaints about this. And those who refer to those of us who find this to be a serious negative issue as 'blind' are out of order. It's a bad difficult to read scheme and the developers seem breathtakingly casual about it. Maybe some users are better able to deal with poor contrast but the software should accommodate all users. I don't have any problems with Windows so why should I be excluded from this software because of a difficult - and unnecessary - colour scheme. The attitude of the developers to previous complaints is actually disturbing.

I wouldn't call the developer's two comments on this matter in the thread I linked exactly "quite hostile" or attitude "disturbing". The issue is acknowledged and he (@VEGASDerek) "will definitely enter this in our issues backlog and see if we can improve this specific color scheme a bit in the future, especially since this scheme is so important for many Movie Studio users." More on the attitude to complaints can be seen in his follow-up post there.

'see if we can improve this specific color scheme a bit in the future,' doesn't imply to me this being taken seriously. I'm a customer with an almost unuseable product and I think I'm entitled to better than that vague statement. It seems to me to be an exercise in fobbing-off. As a customer, all I can do is not buy from them again.

I can tell you that we have made some contrast improvements to the code which will be available in the next update of VMS 15 Platinum. We do not have an official release date on the next update, but work is currently in progress. For any VEGAS Pro 15 users, the changes are already available if you change the UI scheme preference to "Light" in Update 5. Any feedback is welcome, but to this point we have heard no complaints.

As far as fobbing-off, if that is how you feel about my comments, that is fine. I try to be perfectly honest with everyone here and if we are actively working on solving specific problems such as this, I will tell you as I just have. I also try to make an effort to inform our users about the priority we are placing on specific issues as well and if something is not likely to be resolved in the near future, I will say so.

And, honestly, I do not think I (or anyone from our team) has been the least bit hostile about this issue. The adjustments to the UI over the last few years have been extreme and we are continuously making changes to improve it.

Could it be that you're also an unknowing customer?
Unknowing that you can try the software for 30 days and unknowing that nobody forced you to buy this product?

Here we go again!

Please see a previous post of mine to this similar type of "situation":

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/impprovering-render-as-speed--111616/

But I will say this here, THANK YOU to MagixDerek, MathiasH, Gary Rebholz (still not sure if I'm getting his last name spelled correctly - sorry Gary!). I think the update 361 to Vegas Pro 15 is working fine, and LOOKS GREAT TOO! At least to my aging eyes. Oh, and I am (for the Internet OCD, ADD, ADHD, etc. types these days) patiently waiting for that update to VMS 15 as well. Yes, I would prefer it to be STABLE, instead of the Internet craze of more features (Adobe), or RGB (computer parts manufacturers).

Also, staying within this forum post, since the properties were finally listed, as previously requested by our fine set of NON-PAID VOLUNTEERS, what I see is footage shot at DCI 4K (4096x2160) in a Project Properties of 2560x1440, and the rendering out to 1920x1080. Gee, wonder why there is an issue? Looks like it is a "Semi-Pro" model of a Panasonic Video Camera, if all the extra bits & pieces showing up within the MediaInfo text are from that camera.

This is why I never got a job that involved any type of "Customer Service". Don't think most people would enjoy my "loving" nature.

I did not know that so that makes me 'unknowing' - or uninformed. I bought this as an upgrade and there was no mention of 30 days trial. None whatsover. I bought the product in good faith. I did not know it would be inferior to the one I upgraded. So, that makes me 'unknowing'. I had believed it was something I was doing wrong with preferences but it seems not. I note so many here having a boot at me and ignoring the issue of the problem with the product. If I am offered a refund, I will gladly accept it.

Regarding refund @hamilton-white, please read this or this.

And I'm closing this thread as it's going off topic and the OP's question has been answered.
