How can I get Hiltfilm Glow Effects in Movie Studio 16.0 platinum

TheRealClaw wrote on 3/17/2022, 4:45 PM

Can someone please help me with this? I've spent YEARS working on a animation project where layers would be filtered through the hitfilm glow effect to get the right shading and lighting, and now in the new version THE ONE effect I happened to base my project around is just gone. I can't seem to figure out how to get any older version. Someone please help. This made the project go on a two year long hiatus, and I tried fixing it again today, and I put so much blood and sweat in this project, and broke down sobbing today because it's looking like despite me giving Sony my money over the years, they just made it all in vain and this is hurting too much to accept.

The new glow effects like terrible and don't color things right, and please, can someone help me???

Either with getting hitfilm glow in movie studio platinum 16 or finding an older version of vegas where it works? I can't find any links that actually work

... and now in the new version

Could you please give the full product name of the 'new version'. The reason being that Vegas Movie Studio 16 Platinum is over 2 years old and well over a year ago was replaced by Vegas Movie Studio 17 Platinum. Mid last year, the entire Vegas Movie Studio product line was discontinued and 'replaced' by a completely different product made by MAGIX which, unfortunately, has a similar name now called Movie Studio 2022. The latter is not a Vegas product.

If you have uininstalled Vegas Movie Studio 16 Platinum from your computer, go to your MAGIX My Account and you should find the installer for your VMSP 16 program under the My Products listing.

Please note that for the last 7 years or so, the Vegas product line has been owned by MAGIX and Sony has had nothing to do with Vegas after they sold it to MAGIX.

The "new version" is Movie Studio 16 platinum. So, basically, you're suggesting I need to updating it again?

I've been hesitant to update since last time I upgraded versions, that effect disappeared. I'm very confused. Is what I own a Sony Program or Magix one?

EricLNZ wrote on 3/17/2022, 5:27 PM

@TheRealClaw What was your old version of Vegas Movie Studio?

I'm hoping it was 13 which had some HitFilm FX inside it which can be copied to later versions.

vkmast wrote on 3/17/2022, 5:30 PM

The last VEGAS products that came from Sony Creative Software were versions 13. V.14 and later are from Vegas Creative Software (owned by MAGIX). As @Dexcon also told you, the Movie Studio products later than v.17 are from the parent company MAGIX and totally different products.

Re your "Glow" FX, have you checked HitFilm Express (and its addons) at the FXhome.com site?

Thank you for clarifying. I read your post as being that you had VMSP16 and you recently upgraded it to something else. If your older VMS was version 13 as EricLNZ is hoping, the installer for it should/might be available from your MAGIX My Account under My Products as most (but not all) registration data was transferred from Sony to MAGIX at the time of the transfer of ownership.

There's a 3rd party website that has an extensive archive of Vegas products from the Sony days - http://download.sonycreativesoftware.com/current/ - but I can't attest to the reliability of that website. Nonetheless, VMSP13 is listed there.

With VMS13 there were two "versions". The original SCS one and the later rebadged Magix one. I have the latter.

vkmast wrote on 3/17/2022, 6:50 PM

Btw, I checked my VMS 12 and 13 Suites' confirmation emails and no HitFilms were included.

Dexcon wrote on 3/17/2022, 9:15 PM

It looks as though there was a HitFilm FX package added to Movie Studio circa April 2014 based on the following 2014 forum thread: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/hitfilm-light-flare-problem--97322/#ca594096

Perhaps it was a limited time bonus offer at the time which would most likely have been a separate download and install via its own .exe file. Hopefully, the OP still has the HitFilm FX package installed on his computer or if not still has its .exe file and serial number so that it can be re-installed. I suspect that downloading MSP13 (or other version) from his MAGIX My Account or the Sony archive will result in getting the MSP basic program only but not any bonus extras that were offered as a limited time offer from 3rd party companies such as HitFilm.

Just checking my Vegas Pro 13 purchase back in April 2014, the link to get the bonus extras (iZotope and NBFX) with that purchase went to a Sony webpage specifically related to that purchase, but that now ends in a dead link.

There's also this thread from 2020 re using the MSP13 HitFilm FX plugins in VMSP16: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/plug-in-specified-not-installed-on-this-system-while-opening-project--118818/#ca741740 ... with the solution being the comment by EricLNZ.

@Dexcon @vkmast The HitFilm items I refer to came "within" VMS13 Plat. They were not separate extras. They installed as part of the VMS programme.

EDIT: I've just looked at Dexcon's link and yes that's the answer if they are what @TheRealClaw is referring to.

Dexcon wrote on 3/18/2022, 2:24 AM

@EricLNZ  ... Yes, you are 100% right, the 7 HF FX are an instrinsic part of MSP13 (the Sony version in my case). I've got MSP13 build 955 installed on an old computer which I've fired up and checked and, yes, those 7 HF FX are there. So that's really good news for @TheRealClaw if indeed it was MSP13 that he originally had. Assuming it was but doesn't appear on his MAGIX My Account, at least its available from the Sony archive, but let's hope that he still has the serial number for it in order to get it registered and activated.

@Dexcon "HitFilm Light Flares" also appears in Media Generators. It appears to be identical to the video FX version.

vkmast wrote on 3/18/2022, 3:52 AM

As advised in Nick's Download FAQ, if you know your login details you can still find your SCS serial numbers at https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/myaccount/mysoftware

To download VMSP 13b955, try the 2nd link in the Download FAQ section 8. I tested and downloaded on my new laptop (with no HFs). Needed to register through a Sony process but it worked. The 7 HF FX were included.

I don't know how you understand what the issue is?

- ON What version the project was running fine?

- what happened since?

- Maybe Hitfilm express will help?

I'm not at home, but There I have free Ignite Express ,on my VMS16P WIN7 system. it might have glow.

EricLNZ wrote on 3/18/2022, 6:34 AM

@FayFen We await details but hope to find it was VMS13 and the items that as Dexcon states were an intrinsic part of 13 in which case all that is needed is to copy a folder over. They still work in VMS17.

But if it turns out to be an extra FX package we'll need to dig further.

Dexcon wrote on 3/18/2022, 6:36 AM

ON What version the project was running fine?

Already asked earlier by EricLNZ. It was likely MSP13 as discussed in later comments above because MSP13 came with HitFilm FX inbuilt - as already proven.

Maybe Hitfilm express will help?

Already suggested earlier by vkmast.

I have free Ignite Express

Ignite products - both free and paid - were withdrawn by FXHome from release last year and are no longer available from their website.

what happened since?

A good question.

You are all inferring that MSP 13 was the last to include HitFilm, but I have it showing in MSP14. is this a different HitFilm. At the time the main reason I purchased MSP14 was that it included SonicFire Pro 6 which I still use extensively.

Yes, that is a different HitFilm product. Your uploaded pic shows that you have the HitFilm Toolkit pack whereas the HitFilm pack under discussion has 7 VFX that EricLNZ uploaded a pic of about 23 hours ago. The OP's issue is getting access to the HitFilm Glow VFX
