It works as before. Just drag & drop the VOB file from the Vegas Explorer into the timeline.

Set the view of the Explorer window to "All files". Or drag & drop from the Windows Explorer instead.

I use "All project and Media files". What do you mean "drag & drop from the Windows Explorer"?

Drag or open the DVD's .IFO file to VP's timeline. This should import all the chapters' media (aka, "Gary James method")

But it creates 1 KB video file which is not playable which is suppose to be for 1-2 hours video.

The Explorer window doesn't create files at all. It just offers the access to the folder. Which file you then drag and drop is up to you. Seems like you dragged the wrong one.

The 'Gary James method':
Vegas allows you to open up a DVD .IFO file. This imports the entire .VOB chain for both video and audio tracks.
First: Import the entire DVD onto your hard drive.
Click File / Open, then navigate to your VIDEO_TS sub directory and enter *.IFO in the File name input field. For a regular DVD you will see a VIDEO_TS.IFO, and a VTS_01_0.IFO. Select the VTS_01_0.IFO file and click on Open.

(Unencrypted DVDs of course)

There are 2 .INFO files VIDEO_TS folder Take them both?

I have found it best to use the IFO files. That way if a video spans multiple VOB files, there will be no issues in the breaks between those files. As for which one to take? Often it will be the last one. But you may need to test each one to see if it is the one you need. Some DVDs may have a bunch of them depending on the DVD layout.

It works

I am able to import .vob files, however, there is no audio. The audio of the same file plays fine in an external player app. I have also tried importing the .ifo file with the same result- import works but no audio.

vkmast wrote on 12/29/2020, 10:27 AM

@Eric-C may be due to this.

@vkmast Thanks. This whole scenario is kinda dumb. I'm using VMS17 but might just re-install vers 14. Thanks again for the link. Good info!

I use to be able to use the so called "Gary James method" to import IFO files, but since the last update of version 21 (build 315) this no longer works. When i click on an IFO file, nothing happens, no error report either. Does someone know how to fix this?
