If you own a perpetual version of VEGAS Effects, then you can use it forever (or as long as your hardware and operating system will support it.) Subscription users of VEGAS Post have a couple of options that are being communicated to each of them via email.

VEGAS Pro 21 interaction between VEGAS Effects and VEGAS Image will continue to work as it does now. Unfortunately, we are not able to continue that interaction with VEGAS Pro 22, but you can still use Effects and Image as stand-alone applications and bring the resulting files you create there into the VPro 22 timeline.

I currently have two subscriptions to VEGAS Post and have also purchased the perpetual version of VEGAS Pro 21 Edit, making a total of three purchases. I am curious about the options being communicated to subscription users via email.

Additionally, I am unsure about the benefits of using a one-year subscription compared to being a perpetual user. It seems that with VEGAS Pro 22, there might not be significant differences between the two. Could you please clarify this for me?

In any case, I can use and save files in VEGAS Effects independently and then import them into the VEGAS Pro 22 timeline as long as I do not uninstall VEGAS Effects, correct?

@yoo-changyun This seems to be the difference between the subscription and perpetual versions (amount of access you get to online tools): https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/product-comparison/

There's nothing with the installation of VEGAS Pro 22 that makes you uninstall VEGAS Effects, so you can keep using it. There just isn't integration directly in VEGAS anymore.

"As you may have already heard, VEGAS Pro Post will be discontinued with the release of VEGAS Pro 22. Because we appreciate your loyalty to VEGAS Pro, we are happy to offer two options for you to continue using your software:

Keep your current VEGAS Pro Post contract

You will continue to receive the latest version of VEGAS Pro when it is released but no updates for VEGAS Effects, VEGAS Image, or Boris FX Primatte Studio

Version 22 will not support interaction between VEGAS Pro, Effects, and Image, but you can still use those applications as stand-alone. You can use versions 21 and 22 simultaneously, and the interoperation works as usual with version 21.

OR switch to VEGAS Pro Suite 365 for a special price

Receive the latest version of VEGAS Pro when it is released

Receive all of the Suite bundle products, including the latest versions of Mocha VEGAS, SOUND FORGE Pro 365, ACID Pro 365, and more

Keep your current quotas for VEGAS Hub features

Receive FREE perpetual versions of VEGAS Pro 21, VEGAS Effects, and VEGAS Image so you can continue using those products without interruption

If you choose the first option above, you don’t need to do anything. If you decide to switch to VEGAS Pro Suite 365, please contact our Sales Support team at infoservice@magix.net with the subject line "Switch to VEGAS Pro Suite 365".

Thank you!

So what will be the substitute to Vegas Effects in the future.? Will Magix develop there own version.? where we could also open projects from older builds without any issues. i have multiple projects where i used Hitfilm and its interaction in Vegas pro 12 till the last supporting version. then we got Vegas Effects and i have been using it since Vegas Pro 19 and all the way to Vegas Pro 21 now the interaction wont happen in Vegas Pro 22 which is really a big downside for me. i was hoping in the future we would see all these Ai plugins especially Ai Masking and 3d tracking in Vegas effects but instead its discontinued. i would love to upgrade to Vegas Pro 22 but my Work always evolves around Vegas Pro and Vegas Effects through its interaction which isn't possible in Vegas Pro 22. After Hitfilm and later Vegas effects interaction started to happen. i stopped using after effects cause all my work could be done in Vegas Pro alone. i am sure there are others like me who feel the same way. Please do something about this in the future.

Sadly, I don't think there is much Magix can do about this, it is pretty much down to Artlist. And I don't think the Vegas team currently have the bandwidth to create an Effects (or even Image) replacement in any reasonable timeframe.

Me, I'll keep using Effects and Image standalone for as long as they keep working - but have to admit I've been recently been peeking at Da Vinci Resolve, which includes much of the Effects toolset

This is a major disappointment. There was finally a way to achieve After Effects-level greatness without needing After Effects. Now, the value of Vegas Pro has significantly diminished. Vegas Pro is a robust software with extensive compositing capabilities. With the right enhancements, it could stand alone as a powerful compositor, eliminating the need for Vegas Effects.

Start by integrating a proper titler, like the one in Vegas Effects, along with its advanced compositing features. Come on, Vegas Team, I'm rooting for you! Focus less on AI features that don't work properly and only increase costs for users. Instead, make Vegas Pro a comprehensive alternative to the competition.

RogerS wrote on 8/3/2024, 12:57 AM

I think VEGAS with upgraded compositing is definitely a realistic way forward once the current video engine improvements are solidified. The titler, etc. are nice to have but the core of the program needs to be solid.

The AI enhancements are likely low cost ways to add features that are developed externally (or at least open algorithms) and some like auto reframing are useful time savers in this age of square video (shudder) given the rise of social media, YouTube shorts, etc.

Well its very unfortunate, just when things got really Good for Vegas Pro now we cant use Vegas Effects with it. I hope we atleast get the new video engine update of Vegas Pro 22 in Vegas Pro 21 cause we were all expecting it in Vegas Pro 21 even the Vegas team said it in some of the posts regarding the new video engine. We only had 2 major updates in Vegas Pro 21 we deserve one more. it would be great to still use Vegas Pro 21 and its integration with Vegas Effects for projects that its going to be needed for but with a much more improved video engine. We had an update for VEGAS Pro 19 with Build 651 it came out months after Vegas Pro 20 was launched.

Yes, I simply can't understand abruptly removing Vegas Effects with not substitute for compositing. Why not create some kind of link to Vegas Effects within Vegas 22 as an external editor, then ?

It's truly a step backwards.

VEGASDerek wrote on 8/12/2024, 9:27 AM

It is a little out of our control, unfortunately. The interaction between VPro and VEffects required a new update to the SDK used for this interaction, but our contract with the developer of VEffects has been cancelled. That means that there is no hope for them to make the required changes to allow the interaction in VPro 22.

I would like to add that no one should place the fault for this on entirely the developer of VEffects or, alternately, the VEGAS team. The developer of VEffects has made a significant change in their company's strategic direction, and I look forward to seeing what that company will release in the future. As far as the VEGAS team, we know we have a large hole in our product offering right now and we hope to be able to fill it at some point in the future.

jacques-correia wrote on 8/12/2024, 11:16 AM

Thank you for the explanation.

Due to constant handshaking bugs, OFX are not really a solution. Would be great to get a specialized team working on the compositing aspects of Vegas, where any kind of automation would be possible without the hassles of external editors like BCC or Newblue which, somehow, are not really plugins, as they mostly can't really work within the program itself, at least regarding drawing and compositing.

Midi tracks are part of that large hole as well. Seeing some options in the deep menu, it seems that some kind of trial was investigated at some point. Do you have any idea why it failed ?

Kind regards
