In Vegas Pro 19 cannot find "Volume" in the audio effects

Stefano-Guandalini wrote on 5/15/2022, 2:13 PM

To increase volume in a single audio clip (not the whole track) I used to click on fX in the upper right corner of the clip and this would open a set of choices, including "Volume". Simple enough. Now this has gone, apparently replaced by a "fX" in the right lower corner that however opens up only a few esoteric effects, not volume. How do I increase volume in an audio clip?

I see it on my version of 19. Make sure you are seeing ALL effects or at least VEGAS effects.

Stefano-Guandalini wrote on 5/15/2022, 2:41 PM

Thank you! I tried with both, ALL and VEGAS. I am attaching a screenshot of the windows that opens.

DMT3 wrote on 5/15/2022, 2:49 PM

That is the VST folder. Click on the Audio folder.

Stefano-Guandalini wrote on 5/15/2022, 4:41 PM

I did. and all I got it pretty much the same.

DMT3 wrote on 5/15/2022, 4:47 PM

Did you click on the ALL folder? Otherwise that is all I got.

Thank you. I could follow you on screenshot 1 and then 2, but I could only see how to decrease the volume: how do you get from screenshot 2 to the last one? I remember seen in it my previous Vegas version, but now it just does not open for me!

Yelandkeil wrote on 5/16/2022, 12:51 AM

A: 1, right click audio event -> switches -> Normalise; 2, after that adjust the event gainbar from 0db down to Inf.db.

B: I have Acidpro, Soundforge pro and copied all the available FX to VEGAS, you won't have them. But if you don't see the basic ones like Volume, reinstall VEGAS.

You could at least first try resetting software to default settings. Be sure to follow the instructions closely.

(Check also that you were provided a legit MAGIX-approved license when you purchased the software.)

@Stefano-Guandalini

Yelandkeil wrote on 5/16/2022, 3:04 AM

That won't go @vkmast, reset defaults can't bring those shared filters back, if, say you uninstalled another version VEGAS etc, they'd been with removed from the shared folder(s).

Also, reinstall the latest VEGAS will refresh the most recent version of these filters. They are shared in Acidpro, Soundforge, too.

@Stefano-Guandalini

Is this what you're looking for?

There's also the Keyboard Shortcut Shift + V with the audio track selected.

EDIT:

I see that you want to add an Audio fX to one and only one event on the timeline.

rraud wrote on 5/16/2022, 9:38 AM

Based on the waveforms that I see in the screenshots, normalizing the event and using track volume envelopes should offer plenty of volume and adjustment. Another option to increase the event's level is to put a volume maximizer plug-in on the audio event. Loudmax is clean sounding, simple to use and.... free. While volume maximizers are typically used on a master bus, it can be put on individual sources.

Stefano-Guandalini wrote on 5/16/2022, 10:07 AM

John_dennis: I tried your suggestion, but (see screenshot) in my case it didn't work, as I was not offered the selection "Volume" in the menu from Insert/Audio envelope:

Stefano-Guandalini wrote on 5/16/2022, 10:17 AM

To Yelandkeil: Thanks, but if I follow the right click audio event -> switches -> Normalize; I can only use the bar to decrease volume, and I need instead to increase it.

Yelandkeil wrote on 5/16/2022, 10:31 AM

The Normalise is the max peak value, or do you want clipping/distortion?

@Stefano-Guandalini

In your screenshot, a video track was selected and the Audio Envelope options would be "limited". I know, it's hard to tell with the selected color scheme.

I'll give you the text version.

  • Select an audio track
  • Drag through or select an audio clip
  • Strike Shift + V
  • Ensure that Envelopes are shown

If you don't see an Audio Envelope

  • Restore the system image that you made when you first installed Vegas Pro19-550.
  • or
  • Remove and install Vegas Pro-550.

Tourist information:

I looked at when the Volume fX first appeared in Vegas. I wasn't in my Vegas 9 installation and it appeared in Vegas 10. I don't remember ever using it until today.

jetdv wrote on 5/16/2022, 3:17 PM

@john_dennis, I agree with you. I've never used that effect. To increase volume, I've either increased the TRACK volume level or I've used a volume envelope and increased the volume with it (or both, if needed)

In looking at the VolumeFX, it will only go to +6db. Track volume level will go to +12db. And the volume envelope will go to +6db. And then don't forget things can be routed through busses which can also increase the volume level and, finally, the Master level could also be increased.

DMT3 wrote on 5/16/2022, 3:36 PM

I have used a VST for this as well.

I'm using Vegas Pro 19 and cannot hear track audio effects. All the settings are what they usually are and all of a sudden I cannot hear reverb, etc.

jetdv wrote on 2/20/2024, 1:23 PM

@Miguel-Bey, you should start your own post as it could get lost in this one and it's not related to your issue.

Having said that, make sure it's not something as simple as:

Miguel-Bey wrote on 2/26/2024, 8:36 PM

YES! it WAS something that simple. Thank you jetdv
