Installing VEGAS Pro on a second computer

Behzad wrote on 4/3/2021, 9:30 AM

Hi, I'm using Sony Vegas Pro 15 and I'd like to install it on a second computer (belonging to my son in my own household). I have a registered product with a serial# but it seems that the second installation is no straight forward affair as it requires opening another account etc. and even then both computers must be in operation when only one needs to be in use. When I first purchased the software I was under the impression that using it on two computers was part of the deal but independently as though they each had a separate program on. Could you please shed some light on this? I appreciate any instructions to do this properly.

I think you are confused. First you are using Vegas Pro 15 (by Magix, not Sony).
Secondly, you can login to your Magix account and see what computers are registered and even deactivate them from the website. You can have it installed on two computers and don't have to use them at the the same time.

The FAQ on this: "9. How many computers can I use VEGAS Pro on?
You can use VEGAS Pro (14.0 and later) simultaneously on 2 devices. There are 2 ways to deactivate a device so you can activate a different one:

Visit your MAGIX account > My Products > Show More Details > Deactivate. This option can be used only once a month.

From the VEGAS Pro Help menu choose Deactivate the Software on this PC. This option can be used as often as you wish. An internet connection is required."

Hi vkmast,

Thank you for the reply and the info. I am in my Magix account right now and I see my product. I don't want to deactivate my product in this computer but add it to another one. Could you please show me to do that? Do I have to go to my account using the second computer and activate it there?

No, install it on the second computer and add the serial number as you see it in your account.

vkmast wrote on 4/3/2021, 10:33 AM

Yes, there should be a free slot for that in "My products" under VEGAS Pro 15, Serial number, Show more details.

(You need to log in to your account on the other computer as @RogerS advised)

Thank you both very much. The program is now on the second computer.

Morning guys, We're not out of the woods yet. The software has downloaded into my son's computer but he cannot register it. When he puts my serial# in, with my email address or his, it says that the serial# has been used already or the email address is not correct (something to that effect). Any further suggestions? Thanks,

He has to use the same e-mail address you did. You might open your account on Magix's website and verify it's not already been activated twice. If it has, you can remove an activation so you can activate again.

Just run into a similar problem after restoring a system image. Vegas would not automatically run despite having the correct serial already showing. Way round was to log onto my account & deactivate that installation. Reopen Vegas, delete number showing & re enter same number. Both number are identical but it was necessary to delete & replace. Copy & paste was sufficient. Vegas server now happy & Vegas running correctly

I've been trying to get into my own account but that is also an issue. I sign in at Magix and Vegas and at both sites my name, logo and profile are there but there is no tab for my products or purchases so I could see where I have downloaded my Pro 15; mind you I only have this one laptop so there has to be only one download! Any suggestions as to how to access that info? Thanks so much.

Do you mean you cannot now get to your account either here or here?

VEGAS Support or maybe ask at Online Live Chat. Advice here section 6. (It seems to be online at the moment.)

Eureka, Dyson, Miele, Siemens!!! It finally worked. Thank you RogerS and vkmast and jetdv. I don't know what we were doing but we were not registering the program through my account on the second computer (which I did just now). Thank you all for your patience and I hope your confidence in this co-Vegas user of yours is somewhat restored:)

Hi there. I run Vegas Pro 18 on both my desktop and my laptop (when I'm on the road). But in Vegas Pro Post 18 I couldn't do that, and support told me Post cannot run on two computers. So question is can Post 19 now run on two computers? Second question can I run the Vegas Pro 19 Subscription on two computers?

Vegas 365 (and Post 365) run on one computer. I don't know about Post.

vkmast wrote on 11/17/2021, 4:17 AM

As @RogerS says. As for Post 19 (non-subscription) you might ask emailing infoservice@magix.net to confirm. Subscription versions can be used on 1 device at a time.

See also the main FAQ point 9. Unless it's recently changed, the option to "Deactivate the Software on this PC from the Help menu can be used as often as you wish". You might want to have that confirmed as well. The MAGIX Account option to deactivate can be used only once a month.
