Looking for advice on Vegas Pro 16 Edit / Normal / Steam Edit

MikeS1 wrote on 6/29/2019, 1:12 AM

I have to say the Steam sale is about half off the normal price of the edit.

How much am I really missing if I just the the steam version? vs the normal Edit or the the regular Vegas Pro 16?

Cant seem to find much info but I really dont think for me I am going to notice the difference.

Lookings for advice!

The Vegas "normal" editions (incl. Edit) may have some 3rd-party plugins that the "normal" Steam Edit edition does not include. In addition, the regular Vegas Pro 16 includes Vegas DVD Architect.

"You need Steam to run it" (here).

The Steam version can only be updated via Steam.

"Steam customers do not have a serial number for the MAGIX account. So, they need to check if an upgrade is available in the Steam Store or contact MAGIX Customer Service (infoservice@magix.net) to receive a personally upgrade offer." (Magix Sales Dept.)

"The sales model through Steam does not allow for us to effectively deliver "upgrade" offers to existing users since we do not receive specific sales information on individual users on that platform. Really, it is up to Steam to start providing a mechanism which could provide a viable upgrade model. With that said, to compensate for the lack of upgrades, from time to time VEGAS is sold on sale on Steam at a significant discount which should be (extremely) competitive with standard upgrade prices." (Magix Vegas developer)

"You are limited to run one application only (due to Steam's environment limitation that it will turn you to the 'already running' app rather than run another one!). In 'normal' version, you can run multiple instances of Vegas Pro, opening different project, and copy-paste the clips between these instances." (here) According to reports on Steam Community there is a workaround.

You probably need to check with Steam if you can have that edition installed and used on more than one computer. (Cannot verify this)

The Magix Vegas editions (v. 14.0 and later) can be used simultaneously on 2 devices. To deactivate a device so you can activate a different one, go to your MAGIX account > My Products > Show More Details > Deactivate. This is possible once per month. Note that using online Help menu > Deactivate the Software on this PC you can use this method as often as you wish. (This from a Support document and Magix Sales Dept./Germany)

There may be other differences. I have not used Steam Editions. Check Steam and their Community.

Thanks,

I would much rather prefer to purchase it directly if the prices were similar to the Steam sales, but its almost 50% of the price currently :S

I wonder if MAGIX can offer a similar price with a coupon?

… and we'd all be happy to buy Vegas Pro at 40%/30%/20%/10% of its recommended retail price (RRP). And we'd all like to buy our new car (etc) at 50% or less of its RRP. The fact is that Steam offers a bargain basement price on a bargain basement offering. For the video enthusiast wanting a good 'beyond consumer' oriented NLE, Steam VP is probably a good offering; but if you want the whole VP offering, then you'll need to buy the full product.

See that's the problem, it's not a bargain basement offering.

To me it's almost identical to what's offered on the website here but for double the price.

Also for this price I'm talking the pro 16 edit to the steam version of edit.

Recently Magix has offered the previous version (with several related applications) at a heavily reduced price a couple of times a year through HumbleBundle. The Magix store upgrade pricing applies to them.

Of course you choose the option you think is best for you personally. Obviously Magix does not want to offer two exactly similar deals with different price tags. One may want to add the lower cost of upgrading to the equation.
