Movie Studio 15 build 167

switchticket wrote on 12/20/2019, 2:25 AM

I just updated Vegas movie studio 16 to the latest build 167.  It was working fine. After updating I attempted to open my last project and after loading 22% of it I was greeted with "Movie Studio Platinum has stopped working". This has happened repeatedly after several restarts and rebooting. What has gone wrong? What do I do? How do I go back to the former build? I need to get on with my work. Please help

I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on a Dell T 7500 workstation. As I said before it was working fine prior to the update.

This may be due to some Windows 7 incompatibilities in the latest build if certain media types are used. Upgrading Windows from 7 to 10 would be best to do. Or downgrade Movie Studio to the build before.

And to go back to the previous build download it from here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-movie-studio-16-update-2-build-138-142--116343/

Then uninstall build 167, and install 142.

Your header refers to Movie Studio 15. Responses refer to Movie Studio 16. Have we got crossed wires?

The OP's post message refers to MS16 build 167 which was the latest when they posted. A few days later 175 was released. The last MS15 build was157. So I assume the post heading is a mistake and should read MS16.

Movie Studio 16 (basic): 108 > 138 > 158

Movie Studio 16 Platinum 109 > 142 > 167 > 175

@NickHope build 175 is for Platinum (re the download FAQ please note)

Thanks @vkmast I've amended my post. I had forgotten we had a Christmas present of Build 175.

Thanks for all the comments and correcting the miss-labeled Movie Studio 15 vs. 16. I've been away from my computer for a while so I've been unable to respond. Through a number of uninstalls and re-installs (thanks for the download links) I've been able to back up to build 142 and get my file to open. BIG RELIEF! I guess beyond that build Vegas no longer functions in Windows 7 - this is unfortunate. When I tried build 175 it notified me that it may work in Windows 7 but is not supported. 175 starts but again won't open my previously created video. So I'm stuck with build 142 but how do I turn off the nag update available notification every time it starts? (not going down that road again). I couldn't find where to turn off update notifications in preferences.

I get the sense that 175 build will work in Windows 7 pro 64bit, but not with older created files - does anyone know why specifically? I guess there's no way to have both builds, one for old files and one for new? I should mention that I'm not a fan of Windows 10 for various reasons.

- Thanks again

switchticket, the simple answer is that Magix brutally chopped .mts video files from VMS16 in new builds for W7 users.

EricLNZ wrote on 1/4/2020, 4:57 PM

Saying they "brutally chopped" is rather unfair. I don't believe it was intentional. Changes were made and unfortunately a side effect of this is mts files are no longer recognised by the Vegas plug-in when used in a non Win10 environment.

I'm sorry Eric I don't agree, Software isn't write by aliens and dropped on us. I'm sure along the chain of command in Magix, someone knew about this. If he didn't alert the brass it's bad, if she did and was disregarded it's just as bad, if a new build is let loose out in the open without few basic tests on common relevant systems than its simply pissing on the users....

Which bug fixes affecting you as a Win7 user do you miss if you stay with build 142? As far as I see most listed fixes seem to help in uncrippling the software for the not so few Win10 users.

I guess this also means that I'm out of luck for upgrading to Movie Studio 17 + which I guess will no longer work in Windows 7. It just stinks that I'm being forced to upgrade (or downgrade because two Windows 10 computers crashed and I returned to Windows 7) and learn another new OS when Win 7 works just fine. We're all losing control of our computers.

Curious - Does Vegas Pro have the same issue? Are they all both controlled by Magix now?

vkmast wrote on 1/5/2020, 2:49 AM

The VEGAS product lines are owned by MAGIX as of mid-2016. Pro and MS versions are on the same path regarding the need for Win10.
