Movie Studio 17 Platinum Not Responding on Startup

Fozzie2020 wrote on 4/15/2021, 8:54 AM

I bought this software (Build 204) in preparation for my newly-rebuilt PC, and it has worked sporadically. The one video I successfully edited and rendered (with no transitions, effects, or other touchups, just several videos compiled into one), the final result was very pixelated at many parts, not the HD I had intended.

In my next attempted project, the software crashed when I used an external monitor. I eventually found out I could avoid the software crashing from this if I used my other monitor as the preview monitor, which makes no sense to me, but I went with it.

Now, every time I try to start it up, it freezes immediately after the splash screen. The editing window partially opens on the non-preview-compatible monitor, but it freezes while most of the display is still white, and no buttons are available in any sections of the screen. Everything on top, including File/Edit/etc and the minimize/close window buttons are nonresponsive, so I can't change settings. I tried starting the software using ctrl/shift on the shortcut, but nothing happens.

Here is my setup:

Windows 10 Home Edition

Seagate Barracuda 2TB Internal SATA Hard Drive for Desktops

ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming motherboard

AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3rd generation 6-core 12-thread 3.6GHz (4.2GHz Max Boost) Socket AM4 Unlocked Desktop Processor

CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (in 2 8GB sticks) of RAM

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760

The apparently more compatible monitor is a Dell S2721NX.

The monitor that seems to be causing problems is a Sceptre E20, which is run through an Insignia DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter.

Is there something I missed in the information provided? I'm hoping to get an answer soon.

FYI, the full resetting instructions. Please note that if you don't receive an answer to your question, get in touch with VEGAS Support at https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/. A tutorial here (in German).

Note also the current VMS 17 Platinum System requirements.

The instructions above for resetting yielded the same result as what I described in my original post. I do not speak or read German, so I don't expect that to help me. The further instructions in the link at the end of this linked post are equally unhelpful. I feel the need to repeat that I am dealing with Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum, not with Vegas Pro. The instructions linked state that they are for Vegas Pro.

Aside from this, and from a clean uninstall and reinstall (which I've already done once and am only willing to try one more time), what are my other options?

Is there anything I haven't made clear enough? I'm not sure why a link to the system requirements has been shared, since my specs exceed the requirements in almost every aspect (the only exception being the 16GB of RAM, which it says should work just fine).

I am happy to answer further questions about what's in my system and what I have and haven't tried.

The resetting instructions and support link apply to VEGAS Movie Studio(s) as well. A user-created support tutorial here and a "text version" right above it. (Please note the "supported" Nvidia GPUs.)
