Try downloading the free trial of version 13 and see if it installs okay.

If it does, then the problem is with your version 11 download. If it doesn't, then the problem may be with your computer configuration or quite possibly its antivirus software (especially if it's Norton).

32 bit and 64 bit versions of Movie Studio 13 work.

With that bit of info it might be suggested that I go ahead and upgrade to 13 then. I already own 13, but I do not like the changes made to the interface. Touch friendly controls should be an option, not mandatory. I've already made the purchase, so I've already "voted with my wallet." I won't upgrade blindly next time because it is on sale. Vegas Pro has a feedback sticky, Movie Studio needs one too so I can vent my frustration with it. /rant

Back to getting v11 to work. I've tried reinstalling 11 from both the newest version online and the older version from the disc. Neither work. Antivirus is not the issue, definitely no Norton involved. It is probably a config issue with windows, I just wish Movie Studio would throw me an error message to point me in the right direction. No error messages make this tough to troubleshoot.

Anything else I should try?

I'd uninstall and then go in and clean the registry, never no what gets left in there until you look:(

Thanks, will give that a try.

Any time I have done anything with the registry in the past I have used a guide. What should I look for and could it affect other Sony installed apps?

I'd be comfortable playing around with my registration files but wouldn't suggest it at this point. There has to be a simpler and safer way to solve this problem you're having. It's just there are so many possiblities. Intuitively, I'd personally look for other solutions. And also intutively, if you have to ask if it can hurt other Sony apps, I'm not sure I'd suggest you go there for now.

Sorry, I can't suggest a better place to start, but I'd hold off ad wait for any suggestions from others before going there.

I'm surprised you're finding the new interface in 13 so uncomfortable. I adapted to it easily. I don't find it better or worse really.

Yes, it probably is something simple that would only take a few minutes to fix... if I knew exactly what the problem is.

In case the OP does not get any working suggestions, he'll find the SCS "guide" to what D7K suggests in the SCS Knowledgebase. Search "uninstall reinstall" there.
Otherwise I agree fully with the good Doc.

Thanks for the link, searched and found the article. Rather than remove all the Sony registry keys, I tried just removing Movie Studio 11 ones. Still a no go. I'll resort to deleting every sony entry if absolutely necessary. I'll wait a bit and see if I figure out something or if there are any other suggestions.
