Which build of Vegas 17 are you using? It will show on the splash screen when Vegas is starting.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

if I have to go for the option of adding 8 more GB stick of RAM into my laptop in order to reach a total of 16GB, then how could I do that on my own

Adding memory to a computer is relatively easy - the main problem is making sure that the additional RAM memory bought matches the existing RAM memory which would currently occupy 1 memory slot on the computer - but do make sure that the computer has 2 RAM memory slots (which it should). The user manual for your computer should have a chapter on adding/replacing components including RAM memory. The manual should carry info about the RAM memory specs, but so should your order documentation that would ordinally be provided as part of the purchase process. To access the inside of the computer, all that should be necessary is a suitably sized Phiilips head screwdriver. Again, the user manual should give instructions on doing this.

YouTube has a few videos on how to add/change memory on the Nitro 5, such as:

Cameras: Sony FDR-AX100E; GoPro Hero 11 Black Creator Edition

Installed: Vegas Pro 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 & 22, HitFilm Pro 2021.3, DaVinci Resolve Studio 19.0.3, BCC 2025, Mocha Pro 2025.0, NBFX TotalFX 7, Neat NR, DVD Architect 6.0, MAGIX Travel Maps, Sound Forge Pro 16, SpectraLayers Pro 11, iZotope RX11 Advanced and many other iZ plugins, Vegasaur 4.0

Windows 11

Dell Alienware Aurora 11:

10th Gen Intel i9 10900KF - 10 cores (20 threads) - 3.7 to 5.3 GHz

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 8GB GDDR6 - liquid cooled

64GB RAM - Dual Channel HyperX FURY DDR4 XMP at 3200MHz

C drive: 2TB Samsung 990 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 PCIe SSD

D: drive: 4TB Samsung 870 SATA SSD (used for media for editing current projects)

E: drive: 2TB Samsung 870 SATA SSD

F: drive: 6TB WD 7200 rpm Black HDD 3.5"

Dell Ultrasharp 32" 4K Color Calibrated Monitor

LAPTOP:

Dell Inspiron 5310 EVO 13.3"

i5-11320H CPU

C Drive: 1TB Corsair Gen4 NVMe M.2 2230 SSD (upgraded from the original 500 GB SSD)

Monitor is 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz

You are also using a very old build of Vegas 17. The latest available build is 421

That's why the OP has already been recommended to try updating.

Dustin-Schaefbauer wrote on 5/17/2020, 6:32 AM

Do you not have Vegas 17 registered? It should be showing up in that list if so...

@fr0sty Honestly, like I said from my previous response to @set about going onto 'my products' page, I would've probably gone through with the registration process but the thing is not only I don't recall any of my serial numbers for neither of my two Vegas Pro software (although I already uninstalled my Vegas Pro 16 weeks ago since I didn't need it anymore) but the date of my purchase would've been a Vegas Pro 17 as I had it ordered and installed on April 8 and not a Vegas Pro 16 Trial on that specific date according to 'my products' page and so that didn't make any sense and I don't want to take any chances if I screw up something if I were to go along with the registration.

Which build of Vegas 17 are you using? It will show on the splash screen when Vegas is starting.

@fr0sty Also, I initially didn't get what a slash screen was since I wasn't familiar with that concept 'til I recently decided to look it up and get a better example of what it is before it made sense to me. So anyways, I checked out my slash screen and it says that my Vegas Pro software is a Version 17.0 (Build 284) and that it was licensed to 'Some User'. I'm guessing that this 'user' is supposed to be me since it was licensed to me after ordering it from eBay for a small amount of money (I could also share a screenshot of that eBay purchase page where I got my software from in the first place for better context if you want).

You would not screw up anything if you have a legit copy.

@vkmast Why thanks for your input there since I somewhat kinda figured that out afterwards after doing some further research.

fr0sty wrote on 5/17/2020, 6:38 AM

Yeah, licensed to "Some User"... as I suspected. Purchase a legit Vegas Pro 17 license and then, if updating to a legit, modern build doesn't solve your problem, we can help you.

@Dexcon Why thanks for giving me more info on other alternative solutions here. As much as I really appreciate you giving me a different option along with that YouTube tutorial as well (which I already checked it out), unfortunately I don't have an additional RAM memory stick for my laptop since I wasn't aware of that from before but then again I'll still check out the back of my laptop to see if I have two slots or not before taking any further actions and I'll also try to find my user manual today as it's hiding somewhere in my house however.

Once again as @fr0sty noted above.

Dustin-Schaefbauer wrote on 5/17/2020, 7:03 AM

Once again as @fr0sty noted above.

@vkmast Well, since @fr0sty had already responded back to me about what to do next after answering his question about my build and license, I'm aware of that now and also I did remember that link you shared that was posted a month ago about the differences between the terms 'Sony' and "Vegas' (which I later corrected myself on that term) and about purchasing a legit version without risking a cracked version. Honestly, I did get the idea that cracked versions are pirated and not safe for any computers but what I didn't knew then was how I'm still struggling with my rendering issue for over a month now as @fr0sty finally made it clear that I might be screwed over by some scammer where I bought my purchase from as I didn't think that would be the case.

Also, after double checking on your post and if I'm not mistaken, you're trying to tell you that I shouldn't order any Vegas Pro downloads from any other websites (especially eBay) when having to order them from the Vegas Creative Software website would be the only safest way to get a legit version of my software, is that correct?

Dexcon wrote on 5/17/2020, 7:05 AM

… and that it was licensed to 'Some User'. I'm guessing that this 'user' is supposed to be me since it was licensed to me after ordering it from eBay for a small amount of money

Sorry, but it looks more and more likely that you've been scammed.

Clue number 1: Small amount of money. Was that amount less than any sale price offered on Vegas Pro's website? If yes - especially if considerably less - it reeks of a typical scam.

Clue number 2: 'Some User' - which indicates that somebody has already registered it or more likely has hacked it. When buying a legal version of Vegas Pro, the user name is not populated until you register it on Your Account on Vegas Pro's website. When first installing Vegas Pro 16 or 17, it takes you straight to the My Account page where you need to code in your serial number in order to register/activate Vegas Pro. The serial number will then appear on My Products on My Account. If this did not occur when you installed Vegas Pro 17, then there's another problem.

Clue number 3 - in your original post, you kept referring to Sony Vegas Pro. That is the name that the pirates still use for current Vegas Pro releases even though it hasn't been a Sony product for 4 years. Misnaming would be understandable if you had a long history with NLEs, but as you say in your original post, you are new to the editing scene.

Without posting copies of the purchase documentation, was your purchase on eBay from a recognised Vegas Pro reseller just for example like Amazon (the proper Amazon URL and not a dodgy look-alike Amazon address)? Or was it from something like 'Phil Your Best Vegas Pro Seller' with a gmail address or the like? If the latter - scam.

@Dustin-Schaefbauer as @Dexcon suggests the main thing recommended is to try and purchase only from reliable 3rd party suppliers. It's up to the users to confirm that.

@Dexcon has explained it above, and as per rule - we cannot assist illegal user.

Please go to http://www.vegascreativesoftware.com to see all choices of the software lines.

You can go for Vegas Pro 17 edit, or Vegas Movie Studio 17 Platinum, or Vegas Pro 365 subscription version.
