NewBlue plugins Vegas pro18

Mike-McDonald wrote on 11/28/2020, 2:01 AM

I can not get the newblue plugins into pro 18. Elements 3 and Transitions 5. Download and register and they only appear Win 10 in programs file. On this forum I only see to download from media pool but manual for pro 18 only mentions media pool once and not able to find suck a thing. NewBlue has files in windows programs file but Vegas doesn't seem to see them. Maybe I could move them? Any help would be appreciated.

In Vegas Pro 18, have a look in the Video FX and Transitions windows. Third party plugins should appear in alphabetical order mixed in amongst Vegas Pro's native FX and transitions. If you click on the Third Party tab at the top of the Video FX and Transitions windows, only 3rd party plugins will display.

In earlier versions of Vegas Pro, 3rd party plugin packages used to appear under a folder named for that package - this unfortunately is no longer the case.

.... and I hope there will be an option to choose the "old" way coming soon ...... He can also use Plugin Manager (View>Window>Plugin Manager) in the meantime to see if it is there.

@Reyfox  ... Sadly, there's no difference in Vegas Pro 18 at the moment by that avenue re 3rd party plugins. Plugin Manager doesn't break 3rd party plugins into 'package' folders.

@Dexcon to say I was surprised when I installed VP18 and saw the the "new" implementation of display the FX has changed to mimic VMS was/is a disappointment for me.

You and I can't be the only ones not "thrilled" by this "improvement" to Vegas PRO.

Plug-in Chooser(s) could help some (at least myself). YMMV of course.

@Reyfox  ... I totally agree. For me, it's not as though the expanded view choices via the tabs is not a plus, but to abandon the folder view option is a big negative for me. There have been a number of posts recently where VP18 buyers have installed NBFX and/or BorisFX plugins and don't believe that the install has worked because they can't find them in VP18 - possibly because they don't appear under a product folder in the Video FX or Transitions windows. When first installing VP18 along with the 'bonus' NBFX plugin, it happened to me as well. I think it was only a comment on the forum at the time from @jetdv that alerted me to the new Video FX window layout.

@vkmast I use the Plugin Manager and have it docked. But no animated thumbnails when selecting a fx/transition/whatever. It's the same as adding a FX by the fx in the event or track.

I have Continuum 2021 Complete, NBFX, Sapphire Units, Ignite Pro and others... imagine my disbelief when I clicked on the Video FX tab and there were no folders. Just an endless alphabetized list that had no correlation with what category/folder the fx belongs to, which would help in figuring out what it does without actually using it.

I thought a setting would fix it that I overlooked.... to find out that this version removed a tiny organizational feature that has been present "forever".

@Dexcon the tabs at the top are, I guess a welcome feature to make it easier for people that are new to Vegas to navigate ONLY the Vegas features, but at the expense of plugins, which many of us use in our workflow.

Side story. I have a friend that just moved to Vegas Pro and I was helping him make the transition from what he was using. He downloaded the trial version of VP18 and Boris Continuum. For him, since he never really used Vegas (he had a Humble Bundle VP15 but never used it), he didn't notice what I was talking about. Now he sees it and understands, and wonders why too. He was using only the Event FX.

Actually I was referring to the Plug-in Chooser that you can access by clicking the event fx icon (when it's empty on the event). But you're right, no animated thumbnails there either. At least some of the folders are there in addition to "Third Party".

Vegas is working good but I have had endless problems getting the plugins working.I guess I should have erased non-licensed plugins but at first I thought they where the ones I hadn't licensed yet. Now I have 100's? of useless plugins? Some don't load some are red "X" ed I have wasted a lot of time and very disappointing.

The effects will be on the VideoFX tab. The transitions will be on the Transtions tab. Please note they will NOT have "NewBlue" in the name and are intermixed with the built-in effects/transitions.

If they are properly installed and still not showing up in Vegas, please clear the Vegas cache. An easy way to do that is to exit Vegas, browse to c:\Users\{user name}\App Data\Local\VEGAS Pro\{version number} and delete plugin_manager_cache.bin and svfx_plugin_cache.bin and then restart Vegas.

Keep in mind the "App Data" folder is probably "hidden" so you will need to have Windows "Show Hidden Folders".
