OK - I believe I have all the correct Codecs as the .avi format I am using is played by Windows Media Player. I am also matching the project video with the source video.

Interesting observance - when I drag the video event on the timeline I can see it in the preview window but it will not play therre and when I render the movie it does not show.

Sourcefile in .avi files I had made from old tapes. Done thru a third party who has a VERY professional shop. He was actually the one who told me about Vegas and highly recomended the program.

I can upload the file - just show me where

Looks like standard NTSC DV AVI to me which shouldn't give problems?

Marco. wrote on 1/31/2018, 2:59 AM

For upload, something like Dropbox should be fine.

john-f wrote on 1/31/2018, 6:17 AM

Here is a link to a video which shows the problem

This clip works fine for me in Movie Studio 14 Platinum build 148.

Do other video types work fine for you in same project? Maybe you accidentally muted your video track(s).

vkmast wrote on 1/31/2018, 7:26 AM

I'm getting the same as Marco. with VMSP 14 b 148. The file plays beautifully.

What are the Values re DV codecs, if you Shift+Click Preferences on the Options menu to see Prefs Internal?

EricLNZ wrote on 1/31/2018, 6:01 PM

@john-f - Have you any codec packs installed on your machine? They can sometimes interfere with a video editors own codecs. Although if your Preferences are as vkmast's image they shouldn't interfere.

My MS14 Build 148 is using the following to play your file. Check that you have it. The file path is shown.

Plug-In
  Name: aviplug.dll
  Folder: C:\Program Files\VEGAS\Movie Studio Platinum 14.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\aviplug
  Format: Video for Windows
  Version: Version 14.0 (Build 148)
Company: MAGIX Computer Products Intl. Co.

Thanks

I have the same settings for the DV codecs & I have the aviplug.dll in the same directory.

Only other thing I can think of is there a system issue. I have an HP all-in-one w/ an integrated video - settings for that are as follows

John, post a screen grab of your timeline.

john-f wrote on 2/1/2018, 6:13 AM

Here you go

Marco. wrote on 2/1/2018, 6:23 AM

On top of the preview window you enabled FX Bypass. Try disabling.

vkmast wrote on 2/1/2018, 6:30 AM

Check if your Split screen button is on Clipboard, not FX bypassed (use pull-down menu to see). You could also uncheck it first. As Marco. already told you;) If it was "Clipboard", you don't see preview when the Split screen button is enabled. The bad visibility of the button's state is an often reported issue.

john-f wrote on 2/1/2018, 7:56 PM

Ok I getting somewhere. If I add the media and make sure auto-preview is on in the project media window I get it to play in my preview window. I need to go back and make sure that the file in the project window is highlighted (or selected) for it to always show up. Does not appear to stick there if you will.

Whenever I try and move the cursor on the timeline it goes out. It also appears to never jump to where the cursor is - see the following the first is at the begining the second should be significantly later but it still shows the same image

Then

Former user wrote on 2/1/2018, 8:11 PM

I am not familiar with this version, but are you looking at the PREVIEW monitor instead of the PROGRAM monitor?

vkmast wrote on 2/1/2018, 8:51 PM

Testing this in my MSP 14, he is just using that Auto Preview to see video. I'd like to know if he tried (or read) the suggestions from Marco. and myself. His Split screen button is on in all his screenshots. The button is the one to the left of the Preview Quality button (now on "Draft(Auto)"). The pull-down menu can be found clicking the small down triangle.

john-f wrote on 2/2/2018, 6:51 PM

vkmast & marco - appreciate the help - unselected the splitscreen view and as before it's the same issue as yesterday.

I can get the video to play in the preview window (first image below) however I can't get to play when I advance the cursor in the timeline (second image below) appreciate your patience as this gets worked out.

vkmast wrote on 2/2/2018, 7:17 PM

So you checked this is not your case?

Marco. wrote on 2/2/2018, 7:51 PM

Did you try to stop to auto-preview from your Project Media window first?

vkmast wrote on 2/2/2018, 8:22 PM

To me, only what we suggested first seem to work. No video only if the Split Screen is on (+Clipboard and All Select on). Maybe he should reset just to rule out possible cached data.

Marco. wrote on 2/2/2018, 8:44 PM

I second that, though on the last two screenshots the split-screen view seemed to be turned off.

vkmast wrote on 2/2/2018, 8:59 PM

Video showing due to stopping Auto Preview (Project media selected still in the shots)?
