Problems using Zoom video

EliteVideo03 wrote on 5/26/2022, 9:11 AM

I currently have Vegas Pro 19 (upgraded from 15 about 2 weeks ago.) When I import a Zoom recording (of any length) and put it in my timeline, the program runs very slow, lags and sometimes freezes for a few seconds every time I go to do something to the clip. Any other videos I import do not cause a problem. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, how do you fix it? I did find a YouTube video but it dealt with crashing/freezing in general.

J-V....I did download mediainfo and followed the steps in the tutorial video on that link you sent. However, when I right click on the video file, it does not give me an option of choosing MediaInfo. Not sure how I can give you the info you need.

Also, be advised that all imported videos worked when I was using Vegas Pro 15...regardless of source, size or format. Be advised that I have Windows 11 and have had this version when I was using Vegas Pro 15.

In the Project Media window, right-click on your file and "Explore Containing Folder". Right-click there on the relevant file, Open in app > MediaInfo? If you cannot find it, use the info in the link given (Open your file with [MediaInfo], and switch it to text view ("View" > "Text").)

At W11 I have to go to the bottom of the screen after that right click.
At the bottom is a message to get more options, look

@EliteVideo03,
To me it looks that file may not be too heavy at VPro 19 b 550, but to judge that we need the specs of the hardware on which Vegas Pro 19 is used.
It was the first point I asked about in my first answer.

But for faster playing back you can always use a videoproxy of such a file by rightclicking on it in Project Media

In Zoom, go into recording settings and check optimize for editing. Problem is likely long GOPs and MediaInfo doesn't show that.

That's the unusual bit as far as what media info displays. It should still play back though. A more typical REF FRAMES number is around 4.

If that is a default setting it is most likely used to get high quality but very small files which would be ideal for an hour of zoom with very little activity. Vegas has more problems then other NLE's at playing back certain AVC and HEVC, and due to the compression of this file Vegas will perform poorly.

You could try Legacy AVC decoder, see if that helps

I had a look at a 720P version. it consists of 2 frames, I and P, and edits like knife through butter, if 1080P version is the same it should also edit easy?

720P version does throw up the warning about inefficient editing

For easy, rerender again the source Zoom record media to mainconcept MP4 before editing.

Always include this caveat... Using the Legacy AVC decoder breaks 10 bit+ compatibility. Some formats may no longer decode properly using this decoder.

@fr0sty The makers of VP19 will transparently force SO4 default AVC when it's required such as with 10bit. Ingenious!
