Reason to Upgrade to Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 14?

I am a bit confused as to how the NewBlue integrates with MS14? I downloaded MS14 and installed with correct serial number and then downloaded the NewBlue MS14 Complete and installed and activated with correct serial number but how do I use it with MS14. It is not in the "third party" folder.

@jetdv Thank you for coming to Magix fora. We appreciate the time that you, as NewBlueFX Customer Support is taking to explain the differences between the various version of the NB Titler. Your advice will enable users to make appropriate decisions regarding use of the Titler. Thank you.

As an intermediate user, I started with EX (which came with VMS 12 and have since migrated to V5 for several of its features and performance enhancements.

Over the last few years, I have come to expect superior customer service from NewBlue as standard. You (and your colleagues) are helpful and always ready to help a user in need.

Thanks again!

@Markk655 I appreciate you trying to be nice to Jetdv.. But please do insult dissatisfied customers with your "kind" words. Sure he explained the differences in the kinds of titler options. That is not the issue. The issue is whether or not Magix and NewBlue collaborated to jilt their customer base by intentionally misleading on the Magix feature section describing how customers would be able to customize 3D templates and save them.. That simply is a falsehood.. NewBlue has been complicit by calling complete something that is incomplete. And by preventing customers from using their older versions of TitlerEX in favor of force selling Titler Pro 5.. That is the reality.. They both are guilty of misleading the MS customers.. If you pretend to ignore that that is your business but don't insult us who see it.

Here's my informational contribution re "Titlergate"...

I own VMS suites 11, 13 and 14. I'm still using 11, installed 13, hated it and uninstalled it when 14 came along.
I'm not as upset and many of you understandably are. I haven't needed the titler (or maybe I'm too lazy to get
into the learning curve yet). FYI, here's what I found the other day and my conversation with NewBlue.
=================================

To NewBlue...

I tried to call up the "NewBlue Titler EX - OpenFX", which shows in the plugin list of my Vegas Movie Studio 14 Suite, and see two popups: "NewBlue Titler EX for Sony MSPPS Trial Is Over".
When I try to "Activate with existing serial number" I can't find a login/password that works.
1. Is VMS 14 picking it up from my previous install of Movie Studio 13?
2. How do I activate it and add it to my product list?
3. Can I use it with VMS 14?
Thank you.

To answer the questions:

Yes it is coming from your Movie Studio installation
There is no way to activate TitlerEx - it's auto activated in Movie Studio 12 & 13.
TitlerEx is not officially compatible with Movie Studio 14 and will get a watermark.

Ernie Back to your original question on what an upgrade to 14 gives you (away from NB). I agree 14 seems to have moved away from the changes in 13 and back to 12, but with better workspace design still (see below). Whether that is going to be that important to you, by the sound of it imay be marginal. Best of luck re-installing 12 whatever you go for.

Joking aside it sure is "TitlerGate" a slick maneuver IMO.. They deliberately did not put a serial number on the 13 version so that we would not have one later. El stinko.. They may think they can get away with this but they will hurt in the long run.. Their reputation is ruined.. I don't care if they have a good product their behavior is atrocious. We all got the same response as you. None of that dimishes the fact that they used sly wording in order to lure people in to buy Magix MS14 then use tricky responses to act like nothing was done wrong.. Incomplete is not complete they call our installation complete with a shell of a titler.. Blocking us from using the 13 version plugin of TitlerEX and then saying we need to buy Titler Pro 5 is nasty.. Just plain nasty.. We were good enough to get it in the 13 version but not good enough for the 14 version.. Them saying it cannot work in 14 is baloney.. It can they just won't let us do it.

@Vidguy My post was meant to say 1) Thank you to JetDV for coming to the forum to shed light on the differences between the Titler packages and 2) Share an element of my own experiences with the Titler products. I made no references to sales or marketing (positive or negative), nor about what should be included or usable in the latest version. So, while I'm unclear how it was insulting to anyone, I apologize if it came across in any way other than it was intended.

Vidguy wrote on 3/6/2017, 12:52 PM

I just didn't see why they deserved to be thanked after what they did.. That was the insult to those who felt jilted. Apology accepted.

I have another question, and please bear with me. You can see my post earlier today as to why I'm not as concerned about TitleGate (yet). Based on that and the fact that I purchased the VMS 14 suite - but am still using VMS 11 until the growing pains are over - To those of you understandably upset about the Titler marketing issue, may I ask you to ignore the deception for a minute and tell me how you would rate the rest of the suite. My sympathies and thanks in advance!

Vidguy wrote on 3/6/2017, 1:52 PM

I like the rest of the Suite version it's very nicely done.. It has PiP and other nice features. So I have no problem with the program itself other than the misrepresentation of the NB product we expected to get.

My opinion after upgrading the first time to a Suite version, the extras are not worth the extra money.

About the titler has been said enough. The smart sound app comes with 10 music titles, to use the complete library you have to pay extra, for me that's like you have bought a demoversion. Also the extra HitFilm and Newblue FX didn't give a "wow" effect.

The SoundForge app is marginally helpful to me. I'd almost forgotten that I've had a SmartSound account since my Pinnacle Studio days, including several music purchases still available. I can now edit them locally, but before that, SmartSound would let me edit them on the web.

......... tell me how you would rate the rest of the suite.

Compared to the platinum version is extra

1. The Smartsound plugin
2. Hitfilm Toolkit 1, that means Mediagenerators
and FX
3. The already discussed New Blue Complete Pack.

I will rate this as not worth the extra $ 60

Tim, thanks for your informative review!

I agree with you, since I have 12, moving up to 14 doesn't look all that great. But, after using 14 I do like several small improvements. The GUI really is much easier to use. In 14, I can grab the cursor and move it more easily across the video strip. For whatever reason, I couldn't do that in 12. Also the video clips show continuous frames from the beginning of the video strip to the end which makes editing much easier. I'm finding that all of these small improvements do make a difference!

I'm not sure I ever installed NB titler EX in 12. I couldn't find it when I looked for it. If it was in 12, I can't find out how to install it on my computer. The standard titles in 14 seem barely adequate, even for level of editing I do! Like everyone else, I wish I had more functionality to create titles than what's encluded in version 14. I believe title-gate will continue since I don't expect Magix to offer a real titler program! For that reason, even though I have the suite version of 12, I am leaning to just upgrade to the 14 platinum version. Magix and NB just don't seem to be nice partners to have!

One last thing. In order to get my version of 12 working again, I had to manually register my programs with Magix at their site. There was no other way to enter serial numbers to register the program!

About VMS14 itself I´m positiv. The new UI is much better (vs MS13), and looks more Pro than the UI of VegasPro14 at the moment.

Also the new features are good. Also seems VMS14 more stable than MS13 (on my system, no real crash till now).

I would like that the Vegasteam would develop more own Vegas FX and features instead of implementing third party plugins with all different UI.

No difference between suite or platinum version.
I like the editor and like to confirm 3POINT's comment about this editor.

I really like the new UI and editor and now can remove my MS 12 version. I am currently doing a promotion video for a flightsim dev that I work for and it is going much smoother and faster than before with 12.

EricLNZ wrote on 3/6/2017, 9:03 PM

Ernie - if by "continuous frames" you mean continuous thumbnails on a track in the timeline you can have these with MS13,12 and maybe even earlier versions. It's in Options/Preferences/Video where you can select how you want them to appear. Possibly the default setting has changed with MS14.

Ernie - did you ever try to "allow edit cursor to be dragged" in MSP 12 Options/Prefs./Gen.?

ernest-bogusch wrote on 3/7/2017, 9:42 AM

A big THANKS to both vkmast for fixing my cursor and EricLNZ for fixing my continous thumbnails on my video track. Yes I am embarrassed, but humbleness is good! Along the way I must have mistakenly changed these default settings. I greatly underestimated my learning curve. Fixing these two annoying problems will make my decision the upgrade even harder.

Usually, when a company releases a new version of their product, most users can't wait to get this gotta have upgrade! If I could only get the NB titler EX I might just stick it out with 12. It doesn't seem to be at the Sony download site http://download.sonymediasoftware.com/current/.

Becoming a new member on this forum has been great help. Thanks!
