[Resolved] Vegas 14 Release - An Omni-Shambles?

efolve wrote on 9/22/2016, 1:18 PM

As much as we'd all love Vegas to succeed, the shambles of recent days seem to indicate that Magix would prefer to concentrate on snatching defeat from from the jaws of victory.

The 2 main issues...

1. Those who took advantage of the summer offer (buy Vegas Pro 13 and get Vegas Pro 14 FREE) are being kept wondering what's going on. Nobody seems to have received the promised email detailing their registration codes and where to download their software. If it was known that it would take '2 or 3 days' for the emails to be sent out, why were these emails not sent 3 days before the launch of Vegas Pro 14?

2. The loyal users who did not take up the above offer because they were promised an upgrade offer on release of the new version have been left trying to guess what exactly the offer actually is. At the current time, it seems that they are being offered a deal that is no better than the one offered to new users coming to Vegas for the first time. Is that really the best way to reward your loyal customer base?

All in all, Magix needs to get its act together. We all want this to be the great 'new era in video editing' that Magix promises. But if the company really values its customers, it should act like it does -- actions speak louder than vague words or marketing flim-flam. The evidence to the contrary that we've witnessed in the last few days is extremely disappointing, to say the least.

I appreciate that there must be a lot of dedicated people at Magix trying to resolve the situation, but the longer this goes on, more people will just give up in frustration. Some truly informative  communication from Magix on this forum would be very welcome.

I fully agree.  I think we were all prepared to cut MAGIX some slack, they had done a great job in the lead up to this, what with the transfer of the old forum content and retention of forum usernames, but the longer this silence goes on, the greater the mess.

Let's also not forget that existing users may also have an investment in 3rd party add-ons that will no longer work, or will have to be upgraded at additional cost (by the way, the only way I found out that V14 was released was in an email from Vegasaur!).  To then be expected to pay the same amount that non-users were able to buy both V13 and V14 for is simply unbelievable.

Perhaps you could add the word "Kuddelmuddel" to the topic title in order to get their attention. 😒

I fully agree to, past days reading so much negative things while i hoped for the opposite, so excited before 20 September, that feeling is gone, i am not gonna type it all over again what happened, same as many others and so disappointed and indeed frustrated, trying several times a day to see and read the forums here if there is any reaction from MAGIX and/or a REAL UPGRADE for existing users, i really don't understand how they could ruin this with their way of marketing while before it looked al so promising.

+1 To all comments.

I also found out V14 was released by receiving a Vegasaur upgrade email.

I 'm waiting too.
I wonder how many people have already received the serials for Vegas Pro 14 (and third party products like ProDAD Mercalli?) from Magix?

Tomorrow is the third day of waiting.

I expect tomorrow my serials for 14 or an e-mail from Magix with an explanation what is goïng on (why the serials  and download locations can't be delivered on time).

For anyone coming across this post, other threads have been discussing similar issues. There has been an official statement regarding issue 2 by product manager Gary Regholz...

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/magix-will-there-be-an-upgrade-offer--103617/?page=4#ca639333

... it seems that upgraders will have to pay the same price as new customers who take advantage of the current 'newsletter' special offer. On that basis, if you were thinking of upgrading, perhaps you should instead go for the new purchase offer -- then if you wish, you can legally give away or sell your old software (Vegas Pro 13 or whatever version you have).

Issue 1 has not been addressed yet. I'm one of those who took advantage of the $199 summer promotion, so when I get the promised email, I'll update this thread.

Does Magix still honor what SCS did with previous versions as far as giving away your old software and informing the (Company) of the transfer?

Me too. Thanks goodness for Vegasaur. Although, if many of us don't upgrade due to the problems here presumably they'll also take a hit.

OK, good news (for me at least).

I've just received an email from Magix regarding the $199 summer Vegas Pro 13 and 14 deal that I purchased. All looks good, I have my serial numbers for all components including the Mercalli and NewBlue add-ons.

I'm very pleased with this purchase as I didn't even need to be an owner of a previous version of Vegas to take advantage of the offer.

I now intend to give away my licence for Vegas Pro 13 to a friend of mine who wants to escape from the Adobe perpetual money pit.

Mmmm.  What happens when Sony turn off the old SCS registration servers?

Sorry, I should have asked, what happens when Sony turn off the old SCS activation servers?

For example. what happens, at some point in the future, when one needs to re-install say, VP12 using one's existing serial number, and during the activation process it can't find any activation server because Sony have turned them off?

D7K wrote on 9/23/2016, 12:16 PM

Magix can't be responsible for what Sony does. However I've just installed 14 from the email and it seems to work very well. I can tell you even the current pricing is a great deal as Mercalli PRO 4.0 is an amazing tool - I got it as an up grade for $200 and it has been worth every penny. I am a satisfied customer at this point.

No, but my point was in relation to efolve's earlier suggestion that, seeing as this is not a upgrade offer for existing users but rather a reduced-price re-purchase, one might sell one's VP12 or VP13 to recoup some of the cost; however, if someone were to buy a VP12 then what would happen if they needed to reinstall the product at a later date when Sony are no longer running the activation servers (without which you cannot use the product).

Where/when was the $200 price mad public?  In an email?? When did you get it.

D7K wrote on 9/23/2016, 1:29 PM

I didn't wait for the email, I just went to the link on the Vegas forum. The $200 I am talking about in my post is my upgrade from Mercalli v2 to v4.0. The current offer of $250 is still a great deal if you ask me for Vegas PRO.

FocusOnVegas wrote on 9/23/2016, 2:41 PM

I received my serials for version 14 today too.

I followed the Vegas forum and received the 13 + 14 upgrade offer from Magix by email.
Because it is hobby for me I doubted whether I would upgrade or not from Vegas Pro 12.
The latest version of Pro 12 was pretty stable on my system.
Because Pro 13 had a relative good reputation (stability) and I did't know exactly what Magix would do with Vegas and version 14, I took the change. At least I would have a stable version 13 and I would give Magix the benefit of the doubt (to support "the further development" of Vegas).

I don't remember if the upgrade offer (in july) mentioned the addition of ProDAD Mercalli 4 stabilizer and CMOS fixer. I don't think so otherwise it would be a no brainer to upgrade. Now I know it is included in Vegas Pro 14 and in the upgrade deal (so no limited Pro 14) I am a happy customer (at least for now 😃).

I can imagine that people who waited for a better upgrade deal because they already owned version 13, are less happy.

But if you want the Mercalli stabilizer plugins for Vegas, the upgrade price now is maybe less painful, see :

https://www.prodad.com/Video-Stabilization-for-Professionals/Mercalli-V4-Plugins-for-Vegas-33467,l-us.html

I have not tested it in depth but what comes with version 14 Pro seems to be the full versions of the Vegas Stabilizr and CMOS Fixr plugins (at least the user interfaces are the same). Without discount the price for Stablizr + CMOS Fixr seems to be more than the price for an upgrade.

The ProDad plugins Mercalli 4 and CMOS Fixer really are very impressive and genuinely useful. They are the full versions, so there's nothing missing in terms of features and functionality. The Mercalli stabilizer in particular is superb.

That's all good if you dont have it already, but I do have both. Why do I have to pay for it again when I want to upgrade to VP14?

I owned the ProDad plugins prior to v14 ... if you own a GoPro they are absolutely essential.

They are simply amazing in what they can accomplish.

Having them included just increasees the incredible value of the upgrade.

100% agree OldSmoke. I am in the same boat.

Spectralis wrote on 9/23/2016, 6:33 PM

If I remember correctly, we have, in the past, received 3rd party plugins with every new release. Except that we were given a 30% discount on the upgrade price to the next version of Vegas Pro for 30 days so it usually cost no more than $150. I suppose it depends on the individual how useful the latest 3rd party plugins are compared to those in the past but I think the value is about the same.
