SFP 14 - How to record a audio clip being played from an application?

Alok-Sharma wrote on 7/12/2021, 11:29 AM

Hello,

I want to record a small audio clip, basically an instrument being played in the Windows 10 application.

However, when I press the red button in SFP 14 to record the audio, it records through the microphone, resulting in a lot of background noises being recorded and the audio quality being extremely poor.

I read the manual, but it doesn't specify any option to select an audio source.

I thought there would be an option in SFP 14 to record audio being played in any Windows 10 application.

Please note that Sound Forge software is now part of the MAGIX product line (since the transition in 2016), so it may be better to post this issue at https://www.magix.info/us/audio-forum/sound-forge-pc/

Hi @Alok-Sharma, this is the Vegas audio users group. You want the Sound Forge users group. Go there and search "record what you hear". This has been discussed prior.
If you have questions, post them there.

That said, to 'record what you hear', you have to change the audio device 'record' settings in your PC, it is set the PCs microphone. The audio device 'record' settings must then be changed in SF.

Start with Windows and make sure your source is selected for recording . This varies a lot by sound card manufacturer so take my picture with a grain of salt.

To elaborate, many Realtek soundcards in Dell PCs have a 'Stereo mix' setting. This will allow recording the audio output (what you hear)

@vkmast, @rraud - I am terribly sorry, I wasn't even aware of the MAGIX forum until you pointed it out to me. Henceforth, I will definitely keep this in mind.

@john_dennis - Thanks, I checked it out and discovered a new possibility to record audio. The Line option is showing my Samsung mobile phone, which I had connected via Bluetooth. I can now play the audio on my mobile phone and have it recorded using this option.

@rraud - I enabled this option & set it as default device and was able to record the audio, but with too much base. But was able to fix it after disabling MAXX Audio Pro playback effects.

P.S. Some of my posts may sound like childish as I am still an amateur in video editing and striving to learn Vegas Pro 18 / Vegas Movie Studio 17 Platinum.

Thanks,
