Sony Vegas Pro 17 Crashes on launch

robert-s wrote on 4/15/2021, 1:47 AM

I've used this software a decent big of time, not too many problems but one day i attempted to launch to the product and the software refuses to open. I've tried uninstalling all drivers, check crash logs sent in many reports even. I have no idea what to do and the crash logs aren't very informative.

Extra Information

Problem Description
   Application Name:    VEGAS Pro
Application Version: Version 17.0 (Build 452)

Fault Process Details
   Process Path:        C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 17.0\vegas170.exe
Process Version:     Version 17.0 (Build 452)
   Process Description: VEGAS Pro
Process Image Date:  2020-05-08 (Fri May 08) 20:08:36

Info:

I'm using a msi 2070 super card and have installed studio drivers as recommended but this did no fix the problem.

I'm running windows 10 up to date software.

I have tried unplugging almost all my equipment including mic, headset, mouse, audio interface and keyboard.

I have even cleaned the cache/tried compatibility mode. Safe mode does not work either.

Clarification, I have tried resetting as instructed https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/ and this has not worked for me

Copy and paste the Crash log info for us to see

robert-s wrote on 4/15/2021, 2:40 AM

I went into users and selected mine, in local there is nothing in the errors report picture here

Nothing in localLow

and Roaming has magix, Vegas and Vegas pro all 3 do not have any files in them that relating to crash reports. Anywhere else i should be looking for a crash log?

@robert-s
Try to reproduce the error and then copy the entire content here.

But don't forget to describe in the field exactly what you did before, tick the two boxes and send the report afterwards, so that Magix also learns about the details of the error.

robert-s wrote on 4/15/2021, 2:53 AM

@walter-i. The Error occurs every time i open the application, I have not been able to use vegas for a few weeks now. I've tried multiple times to open it in different circumstances.

vkmast wrote on 4/15/2021, 2:58 AM

If it "worked before", have you at least tried resetting?

robert-s wrote on 4/15/2021, 3:02 AM

@vkmast Yes I have done that, no change. That's what led me to believe it was drivers interfering but even uninstalling all drivers besides my video card still no response

walter-i. wrote on 4/15/2021, 3:06 AM

Unfortunately, you didn't do everything I wrote, so Magix can't really do much with it.

Unfortunately, I don't know what's going wrong with you - maybe someone else has an idea?

PS:
A reset might still be worth a try - point 14 in this troubleshooting guide:
https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/de/forum/vegas-pro-faqs-and-troubleshooting-guides--104787/

PS2: The previous post by vkmast and robert-s have overlapped

vkmast wrote on 4/15/2021, 3:08 AM

Sorry, I/we missed your mention of cleaning cache in the OP.

@robert-s

robert-s wrote on 4/15/2021, 3:09 AM

@walter-i. I have sent multiple tickets, I understand they would like the information but bombarding them with multiple tickets wouldn't change anything so I do not think its necessary to continue sending tickets each time I open the client. I'll go ahead with a reset just to make sure I preformed the action correctly

robert-s wrote on 4/15/2021, 3:11 AM

No change from the reset, when i reset the client crashes as it resets

robert-s wrote on 4/15/2021, 3:12 AM

@vkmast My mistake I forgot I attempted that and should've included it in the main post

vkmast wrote on 4/15/2021, 3:17 AM

@robert-s you did say "cleaned the cache". No mistake?

robert-s wrote on 4/15/2021, 3:18 AM

I added to the main post, clarifying that I used that exact method to clear the cache linked at https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

Uninstall, re-download and reinstall? (Deactivate first, advice here section 9.)

robert-s wrote on 4/15/2021, 4:04 AM

My friend walked me through the entirety of that article including the portion regarding uninstalling and deleting all files included.

vkmast wrote on 4/15/2021, 4:13 AM

So I assume that you've pretty much gone through this FAQ?

j-v wrote on 4/15/2021, 4:26 AM

@robert-s

At opening, do you try to openen the program itself or do you try to open a made .veg?

FIXED - My Vegas PRO 17 on Windows 10 crashed when editing an existing file .veg.

The problem the problem was caused by WINDOWS UPDATE on the kernelbase.dll / and kernel.dll (probably) as they were updated..

I did an update after doing an edit and went to bed....the next day the file would not open although Vegas PRO 15 which i had installed for older files would open fine. But Vegas PRO 17 would crash with a message in the crash debug windows about kernelbase.dll and I noticed the file and also the kernell.dll were replaced just after I did the windows update.

FIX - Do a windows update rollback - Once I rolled back the change the .veg file would open fine.

This is after the latest patch Tuesday updates, for April 13th....
