[ Studio ver 15 ] Video preview on 2nd monitor is not centered >.<

BukaTV wrote on 6/5/2018, 1:56 AM

I have 2 LG monitors, my main one I do work on and the smaller monitor that I use for previewing the output. In version 14 of Movie Studio Platinum everything worked great, in version 15 the 2nd monitor is off-center and chopped off in the lower sections of 2 sides of any preview video. Here is what the 2nd monitor looks like:

The Orange area is the video. The lower left and bottom sides are chopped.

I have an AMD Radeon RX 480 video card by Sapphire with 8MB of DDR5 VRAM. FYI

These are the settings for the preview window. They are basically the same as in version 14 had the settings.

Preview Panel settings

Any idea how to fix this discrepancy so the preview displays across the entire center for the 2nd monitor?

When I preview it on my main monitor its normally placed in the center. But of course I can not work with the project since the preview obscures the Studio workspace. I need to preview work on the 2nd monitor and add changes as it plays fll screen like it used to in version 14 of Movie Studio. Any suggestions?

You could try an older (or newer) graphics card driver.

I've seen this same issue. And it is a Windows issue. It happens when you have two monitors but they have two different resolutions (in my case, a 1280x1024 monitor paired with a 1920x108 monitor).

If this is your situation also, the only solution I've found it to make the larger monitor your main monitor.

Thank you for the input. My main monitor is an Ultra-widescreen 3440x1440 monitor, the 2nd one I use to do previews is 2560x1080. Both are technically 21:9 aspect ratio. I will ask AMD if something has changed then in their drivers.

The weird thing is that in version 14 of Movie Studio it did not do this offsetting of the preview when I had it installed at the same time as version 15 of Movie Studio. Something is reading the AMD profile incorrectly in Movie Studio I think. Very odd.

I doubt it's a Windows problem. I have the same problem with Vegas 15. Vegas 14 works just fine. I'm running Win10.

Here is a screenshot on YouTube of what I'm seeing.

The larger monitor is my main monitor. I have the smaller monitor for just doing previews really fast. My main real estate space is the 3440 x 1440 monitor. Version 14 of Movie Studio did not have this problem only version 15 has this problem.

I had both version installed simultaneously in the past (when trying to new version before committing to it finally) and if I went into 14 the preview display worked perfectly. I went into version 15 on the same computer and BAM the preview window was off-center and cropped. I blame Magix, lol

If the problem was Windows then version 14 would be displaying the same problems as 15 regardless when they were simultaneously installed on the same computer. This was not the case. Windows is not the problem, the Magix software is.

Already downgraded and tried that its NOT windows nor the video drivers its Magix Movie Studio 15 for sure.

BurkTv is running AMD drivers, I’m running nVidia. He’s using Movie Studio, I’m running Vegas. Version 14 of both suites work fine, version 15 doesn’t work.

Its not a windows or video driver issue. It was a bug created in the version 15 release by Magix and they need to resolve it.

I’ve had to go back to using version 14 due to this bug. So much for paying for the upgrade...

So I guess no help from here.

The first picture shows Sony Vegas Pro 14 (works fine). The second picture is version 15. The preview screen on the left monitor is messed up... My background photo on the left monitor is Mount Rainer. The preview windows won't go full screen and hides in the corner...

Just installed 15 and I am having the exact same problem as described above. How long has this been going on? So mad at myself for purchasing this upgrade.

Ever since 15 came out. I'm made too... And now they are wanting me to upgrade to 16. I haven't been able to use it since I upgraded. I've had to stay with 14. I don't know what options we have. I'm going to ask them for a refund and I'm thinking they are going to ignore me.

Just got off a long chat with Magix. They had me install the trial version of 16. Has same issue. Told me if the problem is fixed it will be fixed in 16, not 15. Before I could email the chat to myself the rep abruptly closed the chat. How frustrating...

Hey, thank you so kindly for the update! This is an extremely frustrating problem for those of us who actually bought a second monitor to have previews of what is going on. This is a very unacceptable problem if the monitors are not IDENTICAL in pixel count. Version 14 worked fine. This is terribad and I will NOT be recommending version 15 for anyone who uses 2 monitors to do video work.

Perhaps it only affects folk with big monitors.

I've no problems with MS15 and using two monitors - 1920x1080 and 1440x900.
