Trying To Trial VEGAS Post 20

MH7 wrote on 11/10/2022, 2:41 AM

Hi guys,

I know that I probably should post this somewhere else. However, I thought of trying to post it here. Today, I downloaded the trial for VEGAS Post 20 on my computer. I know this is probably is a silly question, but how do I go about obtaining the trial key to try VEGAS Post 20?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks @vkmast. That will help. To be completely honest, it’s been awhile since I have trialed new versions of VEGAS. I appreciate your help.

I thought I made a post about the same issue. Can't find it.

I downloaded and installed Post, but I selectively decided what to install. No Stream, Primatte, Soundforge. Just Image and Effects with Vegas.

I clicked the trial button, received the email with the trial activation serial number, used it, but it seems to be only activating for trial for "me", just Vegas Pro.

If I try to run Image of Effects, it says they have to be activated. The reason for not installing the other software is because I already have them.

I emailed Vegas support and am waiting on a reply.

Ah... found the post I wrote... it was in Vegas Effects. Nice to see they've added these new areas to the forum.

@MH7 I look forward to seeing if you could activate Post trial.

Hi @Reyfox! After installing Vegas Post (installing absolutely everything), I have had the exact same problem as you. I tried using VEGAS Image and the program didn’t load up correctly. Also, tried using some of the new transitions and VP (Build 214) really lagged and VEGAS Pro 20 stopped responding. Whereas, my VEGAS Pro 18 worked fine. It performs alright.

Being a long time VEGAS Pro user, I don’t mean to sound grumpy or anything, but I am seriously considering jumping on the DaVinci Resolve train. Because the little I tried DaVinci Resolve 18, it performed quite well on my PC (see my sig for my PC specs). Just like I mostly taught myself VEGAS Pro, I will have to teach myself (I have looked at some tutorials and I will probably look at some more) DaVinci Resolve.

I have another reason for looking at using DV 18. I have an M1-based iPad Pro 12.9” that I’m currently typing this post on and it looks like some desktop apps, like DaVinci Resolve, will be coming to iPadOS.

I have seen you mention about DaVinci Resolve or DaVinci Resolve Studio, how have you found it yourself?

I have a project series that I am planning and it will require me to use all my videos that I have ever filmed of my family. So, I will probably start it out using VP 18 and then might move, when I have taught myself well enough, it to DaVinci Resolve. I do like how DaVinci Resolve has everything required for video production contained within the application, vs VEGAS Post 20’s seperate programs. But, don’t get me wrong, I still do like VP, but it just has some performance issues, unfortunately.

Also @vkmast, as far as activating the trial of VP, once I was reminded of how to do it, I went to open up VP 20 and saw where to register the trial, went through the required steps, and then I trial product key was email to me. So, once again, thanks for your help.

No, I unfortunately could not. The only application that I could open was VEGAS Pro 20 itself. One of my reasons for looking to buy and trialing VEGAS Post was for VEGAS Image. As I have been looking for a difference application for my graphic design and image editing needs. However, as stated above, I could not get it to work and load correctly at all. I even tried importing a photo in VEGAS Pro 20 and sending it to open within VEGAS Image, but, to no avail. ☹️

No worries mate! 👍

Nope, not at all.

Well, technically, it’s certainly (and presently) not looking like it, unfortunately. Only a VEGAS Pro trial.

@Reyfox you might try and email infoservice@magix.net ("Purchase consultation contact") to see what they have to say about the POST trial.

@vkmast thank you. I just sent off an email. I know it's the weekend so do not expect to hear anything for a few days.

Update. I text with live support and they informed me that I would have to purchase Post in order to try it, and that I had 14 days to do it.

I mentioned how there is a "free trial" button under the purchasing options for Post (along with Pro and Edit) and how it is a little misleading considering you download everything for post and install it on your computer to not have it work.

And while there is a monthly option to try it fully for a month, paying $45 to do this is something I am not going to do.

I will update to VP20 Edit, keep HFP 2021.3, and hope one day to trial Post.

Thanks for the update @Reyfox. That is, unfortunate. Personally, I believe it should be clearly stated that you can only trial VEGAS Pro, even if you download the VEGAS Post trial. I agree with you, it is a little misleading. Based off this, if I do upgrade to VEGAS Pro 20, I will be just go with VEGAS Pro or VEGAS Pro Edit as well. One will certainly save some cash by doing so. I do hope this changes in the future. 🙁

@Gene-Hirschel  ... as this thread is about how to go about obtaining a serial number for a trial version of Vegas Pro, is the issue you are having also related to getting a serial number for a trial version? If not and is not related to a trial version, it would have been better to have started a new post so as not to confuse your issue with a trial version issue raised in this thread.
