Unable to register

I bought Movie Studio 12 a few years ago and it's great. However my laptop isn't really powerful enough to use it easily.

So I bought a desktop but seem unable to register the software on that machine.

Is there a restriction to one machine? I don't think so as it doesn't give that sort of error message.

My desktop doesn't have internet (it's just for video editing). So I followed the instructions and exported the registration file onto a memory stick. Put it in the laptop and connected to the internet. The file I exported from the sofyware onto the stick has the software details automatically filled in.

HOWEVER on the Magix site is says the Serial Number is invalid - but I didn't enter it - the software put it in itself so how can it be 'wrong'?

Any ideas? obviously Sony, who sold it to me, won't help - so I'm relying on the community.

This may or may not apply here: "Older versions of Vegas Pro [and Movie Studio] than 14.0 are licensed under a system (as previously used by Sony) which permits use on multiple computers by one user; after an unspecified number of installations on different or updated PCs you may need to contact support to reset your "installation count"."

You might try contacting Online Live Chat (advice here in section 6) to find out if they are able to help.

thanks for your quick reply :).
Unfortunately there's no live chat facility or any other way of getting a question to Magix that I can find. All the links go round in circles to FAQs etc without any email or chat facility. It has been on two laptops and now I was after a third installation - but it doesn't say that's the problem just a generic 'invalid serial number' which isn't helpful :).

The live chat link which is in the advice here, section 6, worked at least earlier this week. Please check the times it is available.

A user-created tutorial on how to proceed when Asking Support is here.

Hmm I don't see that. I wonder if it's my ad-blocker? I'll check into that, thanks.

I've found the route to a support request so maybe that will get me an answer - thanks :).
