V14 Release Article

The Vegas team has started this (somewhat hidden) site that looks to offer cool industry perpectives on Vegas and elevated news articles.

Today, there was a post about the Release of V14...

Thanks for the heads-up. Still surprised not to see these posted in the NEWS section.

fhu wrote on 9/14/2016, 2:28 PM

Yeah, agreed. News is a bit spread out between the FB page, the Magazine, and this Forum. These are the 3 sites that I bookmarked to stay updated.

i can live without have to consult three sites for news updates - magix marketing seems geared towards consumers rather than pro's...

fhu wrote on 9/14/2016, 8:58 PM

Agree. But I think they will get the news pipeline more streamlined as time goes by.

It doesn't sound like there's that much in this release really, but I'm pretty optimistic about it. The announcements so far focus on bug fixes and improved support for professional codecs and hardware. I'd much rather be reading that than news about bells and whistles such as 360 degree video support or whatever.

Just a shame about all the broken plugins 😭 (.... unless they've found a fix, of course)

fhu wrote on 9/14/2016, 11:44 PM

Nick, whats up w the broken plugins? Haven't heard.

See here and here. To summarise, .cs and .js scripts need a minor change. It looks like many compiled plugins (i.e. that run from .dll files) will need changing and recompiling. Some are already in hand (e.g. Vegasaur, VASST). Others will be more difficult if the author can't be found or the company that made them is not interested.

fhu wrote on 9/15/2016, 1:03 AM

Got it, thanks for that.

It does sound like a hassle to change the code but one that can be dealt with. I understand their reasoning for needing to change it, it's a hassle for them too I bet.

NickHope wrote on 9/15/2016, 1:52 AM

Actually I fear it can't be dealt with in some cases, like Debugmode Frameserver and Rosebud's scripts but live in hope.

set wrote on 9/15/2016, 9:02 AM

I won't expect to be able to use VP14 by the time they are available. But let's look forward about it.

So far I have NBFX Titler Pro 4, TotalFX3, Red Giant Universe 1, old free HitFilm FX plugins, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4 script.

BTW, before I pin this post, I unpin the Vegas Pro 14 announcement. You can find here in case you still need to read that info.

I hope that Magix will confirm that V14 can be installed on an existing V13 (V12 ..) installation and not spoil the existing "old" version (s).

So it was (mostly) in the past - and it would be a good fallback Plan B for users that are looking forward to enjoy the 30 major bug fixes announced for the V14 version.

Of course one can not start a project in V14 and continue it in V13 - but what I mean is that it is nice to have the old Vegas version still working if anything unforeseen happens in the new version...

vkmast wrote on 9/16/2016, 1:14 AM

+1 for ritsmer. It's essential that the previous versions will not be affected.

ushere wrote on 9/16/2016, 2:57 AM

yep +1 - require fall back position for sure.

I've used Xara for years and have always been able to run multiple versions. I don't know why they'd break the pattern with Vegas.

Two days V14 will be here. Looking forward to it!

Where did you download the VP14 trial from?

Main PC:

MSI X370 Pro Carbon, R7 1800X, OC Nitro RX 480 4Gb, 2X8GB DDR4 3200 CL 14, 850 EVO 500GB SSD, Dark Rock 3 cooler, Dark Power Pro 11 650W Platinum, Serenade PciE CM8888 Sound Card, MultiSync 1200p IPS 16:10 monitor, Windows 10 Pro 64bit

Second PC:

You will have download link soon on the site I guess.

Anyway Intel HEVC render option is new, I try it out and it takes more time to render then Mainconcept, still I guess the final product is less video size with good quality what is ok.

As for Mainconcept rendering, I don't see anymore option for GPU usage, I can't do I want to use CPU / GPU / CUDA / OpenCL. Kind a disapointed cus everything is done with CPU. When I render 90% usage CPU, GPU 1%.

Overall, upgrade worths only for people who wants to use HEVC and who are using 4K monitors (And new features ProRes camera supports etc). Dunno about rest of the features, could be I didn't notice something :) But I just add raw videos, put some song, and fix the colors if needed, and then I render.

For amaters like me, I hope promotion for upgrade would be cheap, else I will wait for v15.
