v15 very disappointing

I've just purchased the Platinum version of Movie Studio 15 and must say I'm disappointed with it. I have v12 installed along with NewBlue Video Essentials 3 and NewBlue Titler and I still have not removed them.

The installation went OK, no problems.

On opening the program I couldn't believe what I was seeing (or at least what I was trying to see. Who decided that a black screen is easier to work with than a pale grey one?) I found the option to switch to a lighter workspace but this is just as bad as the menu items are virtually impossible to see.

I was pleased to see that my NewBlue addons had been picked up (at least I was for about 15 seconds when I tried to use them). Every time I try to use the Titler I keep getting a message that I need to register it but none of the serial numbers that I've got (and previously used) work. It still works OK in v12.

To try to get round this I tried to use the Media Generator - Titles and Text as there seem to be a number of effects available. WRONG!!!!! Every time you select an animation type all that happens is that the animation name is inserted in the text box.

As you can see the Preset selected is Dropping Words and this has been placed in the text box. In the Animation drop down menu there are NO options available and the effect does not work.

In v12 everything works as you would expect.

and of course the screen is easier on the eyes.

I still have a lot more to try but am reluctant to bother, as if something as simple as the Titles and Text has been broken I wonder how much else has been.

Luckily I manged to purchase the Upgrade version which only cost £37.13, I would have been very annoyed if I had paid the "Regular" price of £242.39 (which is strangely more than the new price of £202.40).

First, be sure that you have VMS 15 Platinum Update 1/build 116 installed.

The dev team's (or marketing) decision, obviously. The dark menu in the Light option has recently been discussed. Read this comment from a member of the dev team and some comments above and below it.

The bundled NB plugins are unfortunately often version-specific. See e.g. this chart.

See if this often mentioned solution works for you. Re "often", e.g. here.

See the general discussion thread.

Congratulations. It's wise to always check the special offers available at the time of making a purchasing decision. To help with that we try to keep updating Price Watch.

Thanks vkmast

Yes I've got the latest version, 15.0.0.116, as I only downloaded it on 4/4/18 and as I said installation went without a problem.

Thanks for the info regarding the .Net Framework update, downloaded and installed v4.7.1 and now the Titles and Text work OK. It's a pity that on their website MAGIX under SPECIFICATIONS they only state that "Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 SP1 (included on application disc)" is required.

Thanks again.
