Dear community,

VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Update 1 (build 106 & 116) has been released. Please give us your feedback in this thread.

If you already have earlier builds installed, there is no need to uninstall them. The build 106/116 will overwrite your installation and retain your settings. Your computer will need to be online for activation after the update.

I tried the Platinum trial and after several attempts of installing/uninstalling, the software will load sometimes, and other times, no. When it does load the demo movie project loads automatically, RAM usage a little over 900MB, and then RAM drops to 117MB and the program stops working with me doing nothing but looking at it.

I also have VP 15 Suite installed, and it wrecks havoc on BCC 3D Objects every time, like it removes it. I have to keep reinstalling it.

Tried just installing the main program (it sees my VP plugins) and it still crashes. Suggestions?

My settings weren't retained after installing Plat Build 116. I'll have to go through Preferences again resetting them. Likewise the Preview buttons and items that are visible in Event and Track headers chosen via the Hamburger. A minor but irritating problem when they are supposed to be retained.

Opening a project previously saved in MS15 seemed even slower! I'll try later after a reboot.

I downloaded the original build, but did not install it. Should I just go to the website and download and install this new build, or do I need to install the original build first?

After moving the plugins out of C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins\ it would start. Then when I moved them back in, it would still start. Doesn't make any sense to me. I thought I had narrowed the problem down to the NewBlueFX Titler Pro 1 plugin that was bundled with Vegas Pro 12, but when I moved just those out (before moving all plugins out) it would not start. So I suspect it might be something to do with the number of plugins I have, and the way VMS initially registers them. I have never had this problem with Vegas Pro.

The GPU accelerated editing still broken for me, though. Doesn't matter which GPU I select from the settings, end result is black/glitchy/flickering preview & similar renders. Also, seems that after selecting either of my GPUs, after restarting the application the settings show the 2nd one being selected (going my the highlighting in the dropdown menu).

Hope this gets addressed in near future :)

Nick Hope... that's what I have seen a lot of. I've sent lots of error reports trying to get the software to even load properly. Then, if it does, 5 seconds later, it crashes. I've spent several hours trying to get it to load and do something. No success, so no purchase for me. VP15 and all it's plugins are working after having to reinstall 3D Objects several times. I do not want to corrupt a good VP installation any more.

Upon initial launch of VMS15, it would spend a very long time with setting up the plugins. Long enough to make me think the program has crashed.

I'll wait and see what happens next.

I'm just not up to spending a few hours doing something that I know isn't going to work and mess up VP15 in the process.

Everything upgraded fine here except the loss of preferences, it's so nice to have projects just snap open! GPU preview rendering still doesn't seem to work, it does seem to touch my GPU (~1-2%, GTX1060) but it still can't keep up with any of the non-proxied settings, which is annoying. Did the resource leak have to do with the ~40% CPU time that it takes in the background, forever? (I'm guessing not, since it still does it on one instance I have open)

In regards to the loss of preferences:

The issue with the slow loading of projects and thumbnails was caused by an error in the preference structure. (This actually created some other issues within the application as well.) To resolve the problem, we were forced to change the version number of the preferences for the update, which invalidated the preferences on systems that had the original build of VMS 15. We try very hard after each major release to ensure the preference version remains constant until the next major release of a product, but we were unable to do that this time.

I keep getting pummeled with ads to upgrade. I currently have Sony Movie Studio 12 Platinum.

I tried buying 14, but received a nasty little surprise when I discovered the interface was dark with no option to make it lighter as in previous versions. So I requested a refund. A dark interface is just too difficult for me to see details. Has this been fixed in 15??

I’m very interested in upgrading, but I refuse to upgrade if the dark interface issue hasn’t been addressed. I need the option to make the interface light.

So, does 15 give the option to make the interface light, or not?

We have added a light interface option in the display preferences. The default is still the dark interface, you can switch to the light interface now if that works better for you. The best way to determine if this will work for you is to download the 30 day trial and try it out.

Vegas Movie Studio 15 Platinum now uses a new Encoder called Magix AVC.
The older Mainconcept AVC encoder is turned off, but can be re-activated by doing this:

Hold the SHIFT key down and go to Options/Preferences/Internal
Type "main" into the search box.
Set to "TRUE"
When you go back to Render As, Mainconcept AVC/AAC will now be visible.

If you are using a much older Graphics Card, like an Nvidia GTX500 series or older, you should also activate another setting. Go to Options/Preferences/General and turn on Allow Legacy GPU Rendering.

OK. I am officially impressed.

I am watching a Go Pro originated 1080p video of approximately 1 hour in length render at a decent clip faster than real time. A revelation for me. With CPU-only rendering in the past this might have taken 2x the time.

I chose Magix AVC/AAC MP4: Internet HD 1080p 59.94 fps (NVidia NVENC) and I just bumped up the bit rate some over the default. My Nvidia Quadro P4000 is just humming along at a consistent utilization of about 17-18%..
