V16 major update...download and install issues..

v-b wrote on 1/2/2020, 9:12 AM

I was updating my v16 install to the latest major revision and the downloaded the update 3 times now.

After clicking either Install Immediately or Install after program Exist, the install does not succeed. It always complains about can't install if program is running...

The reason: I tipically see several MovieStodioPlatnumv16.exe processes running in Task Manager (Windows 7 PRO) and believe that is the issue. The bad part I cannot close the last one running since that kills the install attempts.

Why are there so many MovieStodioPlatnumv16.exe running? No idea but I generally close them after using the program for fairly large videos. Just unable to get there for the update....

On a flip note, we are in the country and use Hughesnet (sattelite internet) - the downloads are KILLING our allotted data limits and we find this unacceptable (I have blown through 1.6GIG in these attempts).

If download succeeded already, why does it continue to download it again. When it fails I has no clue it was already downloaded. I think this process has to be streamline to a completely new level...

Can't say I'm a happy camper today...this is very frustrating.

Giving up on update for today....

After killing the processes try downloading by entering your serial number here.

Several reports on the forum from users that have experienced your issue (i.e. when trying to "Install Immediately or Install after program Exit", e.g. here).

Be aware though that the latest update has some features disabled as Win7 is not supported any more. You probably need to stay at build 142 (or upgrade to Win10).

Thanks for the info...dang, Windows 10 is a pita. It has some cool features (and the subscription model they force is in no way where we want to go...but I guess we have to).

I dislike 10. Cumbersome for my purposes but I get it. We develop windows apps, web apps etc on Win 7 ourselves but support all the Windows OS's.

No plan on updating my main machine to 10 any time soon...have many 10's around but not for this purpose.

Sorry for the soap box.

I'm already on build 167 (updated a while back). Wonder if that build has features disabled for 7 like you mentioned. Sounds like it has...

There are a few fun bugs I just deal with but for the most part the v16 has been pretty good.

Thanks for the help...

@v-b as mentioned here, if a Windows 7 user is in need of the features which broke in Update 3 of VMS 16, they are advised to revert back to Update 2 (build 142 for the Platinum version).
