Vegas 16 Freeze after hitting render button

Hello, I just bought Vegas 16, I was very happy with the workflow of the older versions but I needed some features of newer version like LUT plugin or support of GH5 10-bit files.

However I have big issues with the software, it keeps crashing, especially it freeze when I hit "Render As" button, so pretty much unusable. Please have anybody solution to this problem? Otherwise I will have to move to another software...

Hi Nick. I tried most of the points mentioned in articles above, clean boot of my PC, various option in the software etc... Program still freeze when I hit Render As button (not while rendering). For some reason it works if there are only few clips on the timeline, but once there is little bit work done it freeze.

1. I am working on Version 16.1 (build 261)

2. Windows 10 Home Version 1803

3. GH5 10bit files

4. Youtube, Fb etc

5. Program freeze when I hit Render As button (not while rendering). Just show loading mouse icon and render options wont come up. For some reason it works if there are only few clips on the timeline, but once there is little bit work done it freeze.

Often times when this occurs, the Render As dialog is opening outside of the main display. To unfreeze the software, press the escape button, which should close the Render As dialog. To be able to move the Render As dialog back onto the monitor, hold down the Alt key and press the space bar, which should put you into a mode which you can move your window. The other option is to go to C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\15.0 and delete the file called "RenderAs.settings", which will then reset the positioning so the Render As dialog opens in the middle of the Vegas window.

Hopefully this will help, if not let me know and we can try to diagnose the problem.

(The issue with the dialog opening in an unreachable position will be resolved in the next update of VEGAS 16.)

Thanks for the responses, actually I went one more time around the articles and I fount point that seems to work for me:

19. DISABLE QSV

If you have an Intel CPU with integrated Intel graphics you may experience crashes or hangs, for example:

Crash or hang when you click Render As.

Crash when you play AVC media (decoded by so4compoundplug).

Hang when you render Intel HEVC.

In such cases, try disabling QSV. In VEGAS Pro 15 build 361 and later, this can be done with Options > Preferences > General > Enable QSV Encoding and Decoding (where available):

However program is still significantly slower than its older version 14 and occasionally crashes. Also I miss few other features that con be fount elsewhere and I would love to see them in the next updates of Vegas, is there some place I can submit my suggestions?

Several users have been lately submitting their suggestions/feature requests on the forum.

Is there a threat that is designated for such requests?

There may have been a thread a mile or two long at one time. Just use the words Feature request in your topic (max. 70 characters) to get it better noticed and considered.

I have another issue, program and render works quite good now (preview could be faster, in V14 its better) but there is a huge, half minute lag every time I switch from different window. For example when I open a Chrome and then go back to the V16, or when I watch exported video and go back. I can see in background V16 is still responding, but when I click and switch to it it hangs for a long time. Could it have something with disabling QSV?

I found the solution for the lag by going to Options | Preferences | General and uncheck "Close media files when not the active application"

This issue is fixed in VEGAS Pro 16 Update 2 (build 307). From the release notes:

"The Render As dialog box no longer gets hidden off screen in a dual monitor set up which would cause the appearance of VEGAS freezing"

This is exactly the problem that I am facing every day! The solution of turning of QSV is something that I'll start testing right away!

The crash always occurs when I did some editing, with more than a few clips. Only when initiating the Render As box. So not during rendering!
