Vegas Keeps Using Another App's Taskbar Icon. [Contrinued]

shovel wrote on 9/13/2021, 2:12 AM

I am sorry it took me so long to get around to this (the original issue has closed).  I have uninstalled both Vegas and Renoise as I was asked to in the previous ticket.  I re-installed Vegas and the icon worked as expected.  Way later when I re-installed Renoise again, as soon as launch Vegas it decided to use the Renoise icon yet again.  (see attached image)

@shovel your previous post was here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/launches-under-wrong-icon-taskbar--129307/

I'm closing that one now. Please continue here.

I was told in email the old ticket is closed and that I should start a new one to continue. I cannot seem to reply at all on the original ticket on the above link. It has a lock icon in the upper right corner.

vkmast wrote on 9/13/2021, 2:50 AM

That's because I locked it just a few minutes ago since you started this thread. I assume Support meant that you need to start a new ticket with them (Support), not a thread/post (here).

Oh my goodness. I really should get some sleep. I read that as "I'm closing this one now. Please continue there." 😩

Since posting I have made the upgrade to Vegas Post 19 and running some Windows updates before installing. I will let you know if I still run into the same issue after installing the new versions.

Alright this is getting pretty annoying. Since I bought Vegas Post the problem went away. Today when I launched Vegas Pro it promted me to update, so I did. The update cause the problem to return. It caused the Vegas Pro icon to be unused/removed and now it only shows up under Renoise again.

shovel wrote on 9/29/2021, 12:33 PM

Ok I think i got it fixed for the time being. While it was launched (in the above state) I unpinned the Renoise icon from taskbar. It then changed its appearance to Vegas.

Then I had to re-pin Vegas to Taskbar and re-pin Renoise. Now it seems to stay put. (hopefully)

shovel wrote on 10/6/2021, 9:40 PM

Ah nope. Jumped the gun on that one. It seems to go away for just a little while if I unpin and re-pin the icons to taksbar, but then keeps happening again.

I've had this problem too. This is how I solved it.

Remove the icon from the Task Bar. Locate the shortcut on the desktop.

Right click the icon. Select Properties. Select Change Icon. Double click the icon you want in the list box.

Click Apply. Continue as Administrator, and OK.

Now Right Click the desktop icon and pin to Task Bar.

Hope this works for you.

I tried what you said. It only worked a few times until I restarted the computer. Now Vegas is back to using incorrect icons. Vegas is the only app on my computer that has ever done this and its pretty consistent. Ive uninstalled, re-installed, updated, unpinned icons, re-pinned, etc. Nothing has has worked.

The only real way to avoid it is to not pin Vegas to taskbar at all. No other app does this. It seems to be a Vegas bug and its annoying, but not a game-stopper. I hope they fix it for quality of life sake. I could not find a place to submit an actual bug report.

Thanks. After unpinning Renoise I get 2 Vegas Icons.

After moving my mouse it switched to Renoise again which is unpinned

I think this is more of a Windows problem than Vegas. You could try some of the solutions in the link below and/ or do some more Windows research.

Maybe. Its just odd Vegas is the only app that does this, or has ever done this on my computer. I had the same behavior from Vegas 16 Edit when I had that installed too. Without Renoise to hide behind it still makes a second icon instead of putting it behind its own. All the others have typical behavior. I'm gonna laugh when Vegas still does this after I've re-installed Windows.

Not the end of the world. Just a little annoying.

This issue still hasn't been resolved. I noticed Vegas is called "Waves Offload"
No idea what that means. I wonder if it would give any hits.

Again, not one single other app on my computer gives me these issues. Only Vegas.
Its not the most terrible thing in the world but it bugs me and I want to know why it does this and how to fix it.

Thanks for the suggestion. It did not help or change anything though.

I noticed Vegas Pro never shows up in Windows Menu search either (the other Vegas apps do). only the readme file. There is definitely something janky about how Vegas Pro gets installed in windows. Hopefully it gets fixed, but it won't as long as the problem is never acknowledged.

Oh wow that's interesting. I did find it and deleted it (with Vegas logo), and it came right back when I ran Renoise. If it comes back every time any program scans it, that means it will returned every time I open Vegas, Renoise, Ableton Live, etc. Maybe Waves it the perpetrator after all. I'm going to contact their support about it. Thanks of that info. Now I know Im not crazy.

I did install Waves SoundGrid out of curiosity and quickly found it to be a big mistake. It might have a usage but I found it to be too intrusive and could not get it to stop running all the time. Even uninstalling was a pain.
