@j-v @3POINT Nice fishing. But this is bizarre. It took a few secs but the proxy created without a problem on my low spec machine. Probably because it used CPU only. Well passed midnight now but I'll investigate further later.

@3POINT @j-vI've had a further play with the file deleting my proxy file then recreating it many times after playing with different preference settings including in Internal.  No matter what I do I just do not have a problem.  But I have very limited GPU just Intel integrated QSV.  Watching Windows Task Manager I find that during the creation of the proxy file my GPU is hardly used (possibly not at all) and my CPU is working hard.

So it begs the question - If your VMS finds outdated GPU why doesn't it use your CPU?  Maybe there's a preference setting somewhere?

Depends on your used hardware and possible GPU that can also be of helping to render and that we are not knowing.

The Make Movie MP4 render option now results in a videofile with correct resolution and frame rate, BUT at an extreme low bitrate, which gives the render result a very bad/un-usable quality.

I had actually given up on version 17 and was using version 16 without problems. I could start up version 17, but in a limited fashion. Yesterday I thought why not try version 17 again, just for fun. Then I got a message that there was an upgrade available. Why not try it, I thought. Well, I downloaded and installed it . When trying to run it, it crashed immediately. It went immediately in error report mode. I found the report - it says 'unhandled exception.

I will not use more time on this application.

In addition to version 16,which works find, there are other workable alternatives from both Avid and Black Magic Design (Resolve 16), so I will get by. But I will not buy more from Vegas.

Has anyone found a workable solution for this? I need to be able to upload to my YT channel and even setting the render settings manually my 4K looks like upsampled 360P. Version 17 has been nothing but glitchy from crashing randomly to consistently failing to complete file renders to eating 100% of my system resources (and I have a BEEFY tower) when rendering, this has been a wholesale frustrating upgrade so I'm hoping someone knows how to get render quality to return to normal, at least.

We have just released the first update for VEGAS Movie Studio 17 (build 137) and VEGAS Movie Studio 17 Platinum (build 179). Please give us your feedback in this thread.

If you already have an earlier build of VEGAS Movie Studio 17 or VEGAS Movie Studio 17 Platinum, there is no need to uninstall it. Both builds 137 & 179 will overwrite your installation and retain your settings. Keep in mind that your computer will need to be online for activation after the update.

I get asked to update every time I open 17 now and tried twice. It will not work.

Is the 15 to 16 upgrade still available for download? I've looked for it but not yet found it. I decided to toss 17 in the bin. This version is complete trash and should never have been released for sale. I'd prefer to go back to 16 vice learning a new software this year, but I'm open to either option at this point, frankly.

Come on you guys at Vegas. I paid for a program that was working perfectly with Vagas platinum berore the upgrade to this new 179 build. I can no longer seem to render any decent quality mp4. You have said that you know about the problem so when are you going to fix it ?. It has been well over a week now and no word from you about the situation. It is your duty to keep your customers informed as to what is happening. GIVE US SOME FEEDBACK.

Probably those other people choose manually a mp4 render template according their project settings, this still works fine in build 179. Only the "automatic" MP4 render option produces a bad quality mp4.

I've postponed installing the update because I've been busy. Today I had some time, so I installed the update. Now VMS17 won't run AT ALL! Crashes on startup.

SO glad I didn't uninstall v16...

I too have just updated Vegas Movies Studio 17 Platinum and now it doesn't work at all. It goes through all of the start up then error screen pops up stating that is has stopped running! To add to this having to search for 45 minutes to try and find some actual support is Ludacris. I have had issues with this product being unstable on my system since the first install. I have been a customer since Vegas 12 with no issues but this last upgrade and now update have proven not to be very nice to me. Then add the inability to actually communicate with the manufacturer is beyond frustrating!

Does anyone from Magix monitor this forum? Will we just be complaining to each other about the problems only to have them go unresolved? Not a happy camper here, and all it would take to change this would be a little customer service!

@3POINT, can you help me understand how to do this? I followed the tutorials to manually set up render settings, same problem. A 4K video rendered with v.16 is 1.81 GB. The exact same file being rendered at 89.9 MB (yes, MB) with v.17. I adjusted manual settings. I uninstalled and reinstalled (frustratingly, Build 179 reinstalled itself.)

This was not my experience today. I just reinstalled 17 after uninstalling it and it installed Build 179.
