. Both builds 137 & 179 will overwrite your installation and retain your settings.

Unfortunately my experience with retaining settings differs. Installing Platinum Build 179 has resulted in my customised settings being lost, also render template favorites and Plugin favorites (Media Generators, Transitions & VideoFX). Initially I also thought Windows layouts were lost but found they can be recovered from View/Window Layouts/Organize Layouts.

The Make Movie MP4 render option now results in a videofile with correct resolution and frame rate, BUT at an extreme low bitrate, which gives the render result a very bad/un-usable quality.

With auto or manually proxy creation of UHD50 footage, I'm getting following error message:

Then probably proxy generation became hardware dependent and only works now proper on newer hardware where proxies are not really needed. Before the update I was able to create proxies with VMS17p.

If you already have an earlier build of VEGAS Movie Studio 17 or VEGAS Movie Studio 17 Platinum, there is no need to uninstall it. Both builds 137 & 179 will overwrite your installation and retain your settings. Keep in mind that your computer will need to be online for activation after the update.

yeaa no. Literally, without any exaggeration, everything was reset to defaults

edit: my custom hevc render settings were still there, but all favorites had been cleared.

@Malix82 Your experience was the same as mine as I mentioned earlier. I wrote this then but wasn't going to post it. But on reflection it might help others so here goes. This is with VMS Platinum.

Options/Preferences - I found most of my custom preferences had disappeared leaving me to redo them. Fortunately I keep a list of most. The exception was in the Display tab where I'm sure Track Colors and Envelope Colors were showing my old customised colors.

Render Templates Favorites - in the past I've found the file ('Favorites.settings' in User\AppData\Roaming\VEGAS\Render Templates) gets overwritten with a zero file wiping your templates. So I keep a backup copy. This time it didn't get overwritten and was still there after the update installation. But on opening VMS17 my render template favorites weren't shown. VMS appeared to be ignoring the file. So I made a favorite and exited VMS. Checking I found I now had a new Favorites.settings file, which I replaced with my backup copy of my old file. On opening VMS17 again, hey presto, my render template favorites were back!

Favorite Plugins - for MediaGenerators, Transitions, VideoFX all disappeared as their files all got replaced. I'll make a backup copy for future use now I've found they are stored in User\AppData\Roaming\VEGAS\Movie Studio Platinum\Favorite PlugIns.

Incidentally Render Templates Favorites and Favorite PlugIns appear to be common to all VMS versions so if they get wiped with a VMS17 update they will probably also be missing with any earlier VMS versions you have installed.

Window Layouts - I found my saved Window Layouts had disappeared from the list in View/Window Layouts but subsequently realised selecting Organize Layouts enabled me to Assign them from the AppData folder where they still existed. But this is not something I would have expected to have to do.

On a positive note - Video FX custom presets were fortunately untouched. They are not in AppData but in User\Documents\OFX Presets. I haven't found where Audio FX custom presets are stored.

In conclusion whilst one expects that you may need to redo customisations when installing VMS on a new computer or installing a new version of VMS , you don't expect to have to do so with an update.

I updated to version 17 build 179 yesterday. Previous build crash prone but rendered fine. New build stable but renders pixellated or black silence. Tech support offers to get back to me in 2-4 business days. Does anyone test this stuff before it gets released?

This issue has been confirmed and will be solved in a next update. Workaround is to manually choose the correct MAGIX AVC rendertemplate.

Just to confirm, is that the complete list of potential VMSP update losses?

I updated to build 179 and now I have problems with video refresh in the application. For instance if I move my mouse over a button or file name, they will blur or dissapear. Also, MS crashes every time I click on a large MP4 file in my explorer screen. The program worked great prior to this, what is going on?

It seems that proxy creation has been changed from XDCAM proxies to AVC proxies (see also https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/v18-proxy-coding-no-longer-mpeg-2-and-was-changed-to-h-264-avc--123874/ Means to create proxies you need a supporting/recent Graphic card. Which sense does this make? To create proxies you need recent hardware but when editing with recent hardware you don't need proxies.

@EricLNZ Thanks. Yes, since last update of VMS I'm not able to create proxies of my 4kp50 footage because VMS creates now AVC proxies (for which my GPU is outdated) instead of XDCAM proxies.

@3POINT - I've no problem with 1080 proxies, which I don't normally use. Checking I find they are AVC and 1080 same as the originals. They used to be 720. My current pc is way, way below minimum specs for VMS so surprised you are having problems? I used MS12 on a 32 bit Vista machine previously and whilst I did not use proxies (as MS12 didn't have an automatic proxy system) it handled AVC okay without any GPU. Maybe it's just 4K which is a problem?

Edit: I've just opened VMS16 Plat and yes there my proxies of 1080 files are created with Mpeg2 XDCAM and are 720. So there has been a change.

@EricLNZ Of course it doesn't make sense to create proxies from 1080 media. Proxies are really helpful when editing 4k media on a older/slower PC like mine, or when a lot of tracks with 4k media are used. But this all makes no sense when you need already an up to date PC to be able to create the proxies.

On my PC (see signature) I have several NLE's running, which are able to edit and render 4k media without issues. With Vpro and VMS on this PC it is not possible anymore, unfortunately.

When are you going to get this update build 179 fixed ? I need to use this program like yesterday !. It was all working perfectly till this update. Please get it fixed ie exporting Mp4 at 60fps. If you can't fix it within hours rather than days, you must let us roll back to the previous build.

@3POINT I'm intrigued that you have problems with 4K proxies. Could you post a short sample of one of your 4K files somewhere as I'd like to try.
