Vegas Pro 13 + 14

OhMyGosh wrote on 7/16/2016, 1:00 AM
I received, like I'm sure everyone did, an offer for Vegas Pro 13 with a free upgrade to 14 for $199.95. Have never used Vegas Pro before, but wouldn't be opposed to it, and probably save me from bouncing between other programs to achieve what could be done in one. Was wondering if people here felt like this would be a good deal? Also, I'm worried if these new people are the real deal, or if they are going to fall on their swords and I'd be left holding the bag, so to speak. I was using VMS long before Sony ever bought it, and I'm not a huge fan of change as it's usually for the worse..... Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Cin

It's a great deal. I'm going to take advantage of it even though I don't, yet, have a rig to install it on. Go for it!!

From what I've read over on the Pro forum, Magix is going to take good care of Vegas Pro and Vegas Movie Studio.

Everyone did most certainly not receive this offer from MAGIX, let alone any email notices from them regarding Vegas/Movie Studio. And yes, we have checked our spam folders etc.
Read e.g. here.

@MSmart, I certainly hope so, but this email database transition does not look good ATM.

I went to the site and found it. Bought, installed, working fine.

Thank you everyone for the info and help. I'm sorry everyone didn't receive an email, I hope they can take advantage as well. I just thought everyone got it. I guess I will take the plunge later today and hope they don't go belly up. Thank you vkmast for the link, I wasn't aware of that site, but it looks like it might be good. I bookmarked it and will go exploring later. I hope it goes good because I'm starting to get kinda excited. Thanks again as always for all that everyone here does for me and everyone else. :) Cin

Exactly what are you expecting Vegas pro to do For you? Beyond Movie Studio it allows unlimited video tracks, videoScopes and bezier curves. If you were bouncing between multiple programs with Movie Studio, my guess is that will continue.

hi, this is off topic but I have Movie 13 basic and when I open I found one day a small thumbnail sized preview screen. I have tried control/shift while opening, deleting and reloading and to no avail, same small preview screen. Put in a Sony request three days ago and nada. ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS?
Thanks.

movie studio 13 tiny view,
yes, totally off topic, but
"Reset software to default settings"
Be sure to see the window asking for the checkmark. This has usually worked, see e.g. here.
Don't click the program shortcut icon on the taskbar.

Good point John, and not really sure. Have wanted Pro for years and thought this might be the time. My other 'go to' program is After Effects, and I use it a lot for masks, rotoscoping, and green screen-keylight. Hopefully Vegas Pro can help in some of those areas, but I don't know of any other program that can handle color keying better than AE. At the end of the day, I guess it's just something I've always wanted and now seems to be affordable and is better than another pair of shoes! ;) Cin

It's really not going to help you at all. I use Mocha Pro for tracking and rotor. Then i send tracking and shapes to Blackmagic Fusion. For color keying and some other stuff I use Davinci Resolve. if Vegas doesn't step up its game soon, Resolve will be my go to editor.
OhMyGosh wrote on 7/17/2016, 7:57 PM
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention 'tracking', that's huge! I was unaware of Resolve, but just googled it, and it looks interesting. I'm going to check it out further. I also decided to not buy Vegas today, but rather use the trial. It says I have 30 days to make up my mind, so I slowed down a bit! I'm watching some tutorials from that new site I learned about, and they seem very good. I have a lot to learn about Vegas Pro, but it at least has to have tracking and the ability to rotoscope. Right?... Thanks for your input. Cin

I thought the special offer was only available until the end of July, but it's been extended till the end of August at the same price - in case anyone thought they missed it, BTW.

An email from MAGIX containing the following text was received by the owner of another forum to his query about a month ago.
"We’re in transition and things currently might take a little bit longer. During the next few weeks every customer in the database will receive a welcome email. We’re only sending one welcome email to each customer – regardless how many products a customer has purchased. Because Vegas Pro 13 is your most professional product, you received an email focusing on Vegas Pro, not on Movie Studio."

They probably needed to extend the offer as they have admitted they haven't been able to send emails to all potential upgraders simultaneously.¹
MAGIX say there are 26 Million people in the Sony email database.

Btw., I and probably many others have not received any Vegas-related emails so far. Stands to reason I suppose if (most of) the current VPro 13 users do get their upgrade offer/welcome email only in September.

¹) "At the moment (early July) there has been a few small batches of emails that have gone out and many more are going out in stages explaining the new direction things are heading."

I don't know their criteria for deciding who to email, but to improve your chances of getting a message from MAGIX, I suggest that under MY ACCOUNT (in the menu above) - select EMAIL PREFERENCES, then select ENGLISH (or possibly DEUTSCH) as your prefered language, and then instead of checking the radio button "All Sony Creative Software products and services;" select "These specific Sony Creative Software products and services:" and then tick the boxes for both "Vegas Pro & DVD Architect Pro software " and "The Studio product family (Movie Studio, Music Studio, and Audio Studio software) ". Most importantly, don't forget to click the blue "SUBMIT FORM" button.

See if that helps get you an email from MAGIX including the upgade offer.

It might not hurt to visit the MAGIX site and register with them directly.

On MAGIX's English language sites, at the top right, there is a little 'person/avatar' icon, click that and register or sign in. Once you are signed in, Select "Info service: Change your newsletter settings here" and check the box for "Yes, I would like to subscribe to the free email info service!" and then click the radio button for "Standard Setting" (not a specific language) and then be sure to click the blue "Save Changes" button.

IMHO (in my humble opinion) it would be a good idea if MAGIX allowed owners of SONY STUDIO/VEGAS products to register their current Serial Numbers for their SONY products on their, MAGIX's, website, same as you can register your MAGIX products, and then they would know who is currently showing an interest in making the switch between companies. But, it's been too long since anyone's asked me to run the world. *Sigh*

Good info, Doc, for those not familiar with the procedures.

It's just that I myself have done that in the SCS email preferences ages ago.
I've registered on the Magix site directly as well and am in fact getting emails from them, just not anything Vegas-related.
And yes, I've checked spam folders as well.

I've suggested elsewhere something similar as you suggest in your other post and I agree with that.

vkmast, You're a star. All your hard work is much appreciated on here. I hope MAGIX's elves recognize that and get you on their special offers list soon.
vkmast wrote on 8/6/2016, 6:20 PM
Doc, thanks but I do believe there are many others like me as well that are not receiving Magix Vegas emails at the moment:) .
It seems Magix just have problems with logistics here due to the immense database.
And like others have mentioned elsewhere, we who already have the latest versions of Pro and/or MSP would be quite happy just to receive the future upgrade offers and to know we still are on the lists. I guess September will tell.

Can someone please share the link to the details of this offer? I get the popup on my program when I start it, but the links do nothing when clicked.

SphinxRa40 wrote on 9/14/2016, 1:23 PM

@musesmistress there is no link or/and offer anymore, i found out that there was an offer a few months ago

yesterday to on their facebook page, surprised me a lot when i read that comment, as many don't receive any newsletter from MAGIX, see:

https://www.facebook.com/vegascreativesoftware/

(last post and read the comments there is a reply from VCS them self:

"VEGAS Creative Software Hi Doug Painter , this offer was only for a short time available. So unfortunately there is no way to purchase it for $199 again. But there is now reasen to start to cry now ;)! A new offer will coming with the release next week. You can get more informations in our newsletter and net-notify. Best | VEGAS Social Media Team"

But good news they are coming with an offer with the next release, so better follow all instead counting on newsletters..

musesmistress wrote on 9/14/2016, 1:27 PM

That's weird, I've had the progam open most days for months and nothing until today. and I haven't had an email from them in a lot longer :(

Thank you for the reply

SphinxRa40 wrote on 9/14/2016, 1:42 PM

Ye tell me about it,  I guess they missed out a lot of customers, oh well, let's hope the offer when it's released is worth it, stay positive

Your welcome
