Vegas Pro 17 and Hit Film Movie Essential plugins

Debbie-Whitmer wrote on 8/7/2019, 9:30 PM

QUESTION: When I purchased Vegas Pro 15, I also installed the plugins "Hit Film Movie Essential" plugins. When I upgraded to Vegas 16, they transferred over to 16 and everything was fine. When I purchased Vegas 17 just today, the "Hit Film Movie Essential" plugins do not show up. And, of course, when I attempt to load in a Vegas 16 project into Vegas 17, it tells me those "Hit Film Movie Essential" plugins are missing/not installed on the computer and I know they are. My question is: WHY are these "Hit Film Movie Essential" plugins not showing up in Vegas 17? And is there anything I can do about it to make them show up in Vegas 17? Looking forward to your answer. Thx!

I think those Hitfilm plug-ins are planned to have an update to be fully compatible with V17 for what I've read in another thread here. Hitfilm Ignite is the one but I don't know if 'Essential Plug-ins' are included, better wait for other members response or directly ask Hitfilm if nobody confirm here.

Probably best to ask that question over at Fx Home. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Vegas SDK was changed and the third-party developers will need to do updates to their software to make it compatible with Vegas. It is not a Vegas issue per se, but an issue for the 3rd party developers. So best to bring to each developer and see when they plan to update their programs. I have found that not all Hit Film Fx work in Vegas and it is hit and miss which ones do. I can't find it, but somewhere over at Fx Home there is a list of software programs that are currently compatible with their program and I doubt V17 is on that list yet. Personally, I'd just wait for the next sale of Fx Home and just buy the free standing program and no need to keep plugging it in. Also, with Vegas Post, there's a possibility it might be an add-on that is not bundled and if that happens, I might even get that myself.

ram 17 and karma17, thank you for both of your responses. That greatly helps. Yes, karma17, I noticed too that sometimes, some plugins will not work while others in the same family of plugins do. It has me scratching my head at times, lol Thanks again for your help!!

I asked at FXHome and it seems like it is a VP 17 problem as this is the response I got:

"Hello,
Thank you for contacting FXhome. That compatibility requires an update to VEGAS Pro 17, and I believe Magix plans to include it in the next update to that software.

Did you try deleting the Hit Film FXs through your operating system and re-installing them?

I don't think 'HitFilm Movie Essentials' is a current FX package offered by FXHome? If you're chasing VFX plugins that work within VP17, you'll need their latest version of 'Ignite Pro'.

(my previous version also doesn't work anymore..)

https://fxhome.com/ignite-pro/whats-new/

The 'Send to Hitfilm' context menu also got broken during the development of VPEffects17. Magix is in the process of repairing this, but I'm not sure what version of 'Hitfilm Pro' you will need to make this work, again.

Thank you for your response. I only noticed this today. I also contacted FXhome directly telling them that these hitfilm plugins would not work, and if I needed to buy them again. They replied back to me and said this:

"A new response has been posted to your ticket:

No, you won't need to repurchase it. You will be prompted to redownload it again though. As the other programs change, we need to create these updates to make sure our programs work with 3rd party software.

It won't be long though

So, they are claiming that it's on their end that needs to be fixed because it says, "...WE need to create updates to make sure OUR programs work with 3rd party software." Hmmmm. I haven't been notified yet as to any updates, and that same "hitfilm" error message still comes up upon execution of Vegas Pro 17. I'm still waiting for this update as of 9-21-2019.

james-ollick - Yes, I uninstalled the Hit Film Movie Essential plugins TWICE and reinstalled and it still does not work. Fxhome just wrote me back today (9-24-2019) and said the following:

"At the moment it is still a case of the Vegas 17 program will not support the plugins until Magix have released the update to allow this.

Regards,

The thing is that Magix came out with a new update for Vegas Pro 17 yesterday on 9-23-2019, and the Hit Film Movie plugins still do not work!

Given the confusion as to whether either FXHome or Magix intend to fix this issue it would be very helpful to have a definitive answer on this forum.

Another note from FXhome.

Debbie-Whitmer wrote on 9/26/2019, 12:26 PM

Yes, exactly, this is what FXhome told me too. As I had stated in a previous post, Magix has already updated the new Vegas Pro 17 and the hitfilms scenario still does not work. I guess it's just more waiting. I probably should just uninstall hitfilms to see if it will get rid of the error window that comes up with every single execution of Vegas Pro 17.

I would be really interested to know what process is actually involved to install a 3rd party plugin,

how does the installer do it, what happens during the install, where does it get installed, and what entries are made where to ensure vegas knows about it.

Also, whether or not a 3rd party plugin can be manually 'persuaded' to be recognized with VP...

The last i've heard from FXHome is here.. Ady Staff 12:06AM Flag @AVsupport - Thanks for your post & let me first of all say that I completely understand where your concerns are coming from. No, Ignite is not host locked, I don't believe we have ever done something like that. What happened with Ignite and the release of Vegas 17 was a very unique event that is very unlikely (but not impossible) to happen again when / if Vegas Pro 18 comes out. We always do our very best to try to preemptively stop these issues getting to our users, sadly on this occasion we fell short and we must learn from it. Thank you for taking the time to post your concerns to us, we promise to do better next time.

not sure who's telling what now

I just contacted FXHOME and they tell me the same thing, Hit Film Movie Essential and Ignite are compatible with Vegas 17, The problem comes from Vegas, it's up to Magix to make an update where those plug-ins are recognized.
Here an image to illustrate the FX list in Vegas 16 and 17. As you can see, all the Hit Film Movie Essential and Ignite FX are missing, idem for the transitions and some BCC FX.

A rather convoluted statement from FHome, making a subtle distinction between plug-ins that are compatible and those that are recognised.

It would be good to hear from Magix rather than FXHome telling us about what Magix thinks.

Thank you lan-mLMC.💯
Nice, it works for the Hit Film Movie Essential Pack 😃 👍
Now is present in Vegas 17 as well as in Vegas 16.

Is it possible to make the same think for Ignite Express?

Sirio wrote on 10/2/2019, 1:10 PM

Sure, have done~

Do you need some help to do? Do you have the installation file "IgniteExpress2017_1.0.8403.32417_x64.msi"
