Vegas Pro 18.0 (434) won't update - but keeps asking me to...

nickybee123 wrote on 3/15/2021, 2:05 AM

Everytime I launch Vegas (which reports as Build 434 during the launch popup) it tells me there is a Major Program Update...

(started doing this a few days ago)

Unfortunately it doesn't tell me what the build is (it's the one with ProRes support in it)

However when I click "Perform Update Now" - it goes and downloads 740MB worth of update (slooooooooowly) and then I am presented with two options:

Option 1: Install after program closes - if I click this nothing ever happens. I think somehow Vegas never closes properly so the update never kicks off correctly (I've tried force-closing it right after I click the button but that didn't work)

Option 2: Install immediately - I click this Vegas appears to close - but nothing happens ;(

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling from the service center link but that got me build 434 again.

Anyone got any ideas? Where does the 740MB update get saved to by Vegas? Anyone know? I was gonna try and kick it manually... (I thought it might be here - C:\Users\******\Documents\MAGIX Downloads\Installationsmanager) - but no such luck - that's where the official installer saves them.

So I guess there are a couple of things here:

1. It would be useful if the installer reported (in some small text at least) what build version the new install is

2. If it is in fact a new (after 434) build then the links on the website should have been updated to reflect this

3. And yes it would be good if Vegas downloaded the updater somewhere where we could find it - just in case of these kinds of crashes

+1 to both of above!

After hitting the 'install immediately' button after the download had finished, the installer did contain text stating that the new build is build 482.

@Dexcon that's very useful information - because it means that the links on the website ARE out of date...

For what it's worth I get a popup saying "The installer is unable to update Vegas Pro 18.0 while it is running" - which makes a teeny bit of sense except:

(a) it's supposed to close it itself (which means it couldn't shut it down nicely)

(b) I can't kick it manually after I force close it (because I don't know where the f***er is)

(c) AAARRRGGH ;)

Try using the download manager instead.

nickybee123 wrote on 3/15/2021, 2:49 AM

@Marco. you're right - I'm a moron. I thought the link on the website was to the build itself and noticed it was the same link - but it's in fact to the download manager. So yes - I can (and just did) do that ;)

Fact is though it's still an annoying bug...

On a side note - it would be nice if the download manager correctly detected installed versions like for example the Nvidia downloader does - so that way you'd know if you need to re-download EVERYTHING or just the things that are new

I am getting the same problem here. Where can I find the download manager to overcome this problem please? Cheers John

Marco. wrote on 3/15/2021, 3:47 AM

The download manager is available via your Magix website user account (My products).

vkmast wrote on 3/15/2021, 3:49 AM

E.g. here MAGIX Download Center or on your MAGIX Account as @Marco. already noted.

The new builds are full installations and include all the previous changes.

As always, be sure that there are no VEGAS processes running (check Task Manager) and use another browser if one does not download.

Thank you kind sirs. Will try that now. Cheers John

For what it's worth, the 482 update installed without any issues. I chose the path to download now and install after I closed VP18.

vkmast wrote on 3/15/2021, 4:16 AM

If you download from the program, see if you can find this (VEGASUpdate.exe) in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\18.0 (In case you don't install immediately).

Btw, expect an "official" announcement in Forum's News Patches when VEGAS Madison WI, US office day starts later today.

As suggested by @Marco. and @vkmast , installed via the downoad manager - installation runs smoothly.

I can not confirm - but maybe more traffic is now on the server than two hours ago ....

Reyfox wrote on 3/15/2021, 6:22 AM

No big deal for me, I let it download while I catch up on email. Installation went without a problem and restarting the software, everything is there including the current project and window layout.
