YouTube Intro

Hey guys,

The above is a screen cap of my YouTube banner graphics. I am wanting to know if it’s possible to create text in Vegas Pro 15 that is white like it is on the orange part but when it passes over the white part it reflects and shows the orange part underneath. If you need more explanation of what I am trying to achieve please feel free to ask me. I’ve done a couple of my channel intros in Vegas Pro 15 but this one I want a bit different, more material design like. I thank anyone in advance that can help me out.

Cheers,

Matt

POST UPDATE

Thanks to @john_dennis for creating the example and giving me the project file of what I have actually been wanted to create. I do greatly appreciate your time and effort. I didn’t realise you were being silly and joking. But I still would’ve appreciated your efforts in creating the example even if you couldn’t provide the project file. So, thank you very much! Now I can go about and attempt to create it. I’ll post my intro here once I’ve created it and credit John for his help.

Dirt simple.

create your base objects

duplicate anything that crosses over the line

create diagonal masks

invert the colors

Judicious use of copying/pasting event attributes will ensure the masks line up

apparently I can't upload a veg file here. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Tv0ke660dqzsLqVW4nI9L0mgwtmakGvE

Thanks for replying mate. That sounds simple enough but I don’t quite know how to create diagonal masks. The animation for this intro I want will be a diagonal line that draws across the video before the intro and the white and orange will expand from that diagonal line diagonally out over the video.

But one other thing I’d like to do, which I’m wondering if it’s even possible to do, is where each orange and white part meet in the middle, and the text being different on each part, having the text, each part where it meets diagonally in the middle, be hidden and then appear both top and bottom opposite it each other — the part of the text that is on the orange part would be hidden behind the white part and move upward and the text appearing on the white part would be hidden behind the orange and move downward. Both would animate at the exact same time. I hope I’m making myself clear. Sometimes it can be harder to explain things that to show them. But I hope I’ve explained it well enough.

Thanks for your help so far.

This is the basic way of how to mask (usually I have save a 'full screen mask' for my future needs if I just have to cut a part of it, I can just select from template, and drag it):

Hope helps.

For the animation you are planning... haven't tested by my own, but I think you need to work part by part, and depending on how the animation becoming.. could be a 'stage' of partial images appear in the timeline... or you can also work with one generated media text first... then copy 'make a reference', apply a color corrector to change that, while applying masking.

A need for nesting project workflow? possible - depending your project need. Multiple layering masking with track group and compositing process is also possible.

Watch previous Gary's live webinar about compositing modes and how to work with it... hope this able to bring the idea of how to do it.

a combination of mask 'motion' and anything can also possible.

Sorry mate, I didn’t realise that you actually spent the time doing a tutorial for me on how to mask. Thank you! I very much appreciate it. I’ll have to watch it slowly and follow it. I appreciate you taking your time to do that. 😀👍🏻

Hi John, thanks for your help. It almost is but not quite. It’s a bit more complicated, which is why I am having trouble figuring it out. It’s more of having the orange and white parts appear like a material design-like animation on the diagonal middle from the whole diagonal middle (from left to right) like is shown and the text slide in top and bottom where the orange and white diagonally meet. And it’ll be in the full 16:9 aspect ratio in 4K (3840x2160).

Thanks Lee, you’ve got the right idea with the diagonal animation but, unfortunately, it’s not quite what I’m looking for. See my comment above for more details. I do appreciate your kind help though. 🙂👍🏻

Hi John! That’s pretty darn close to what I’m wanting. The only part is the text. I guess, if you think of the text - Tech Wired Geek split where they are different, white on the orange, cutout to show the orange underneath on the white, imagining that they are two different separate text, then the white text appearing up from behind the white part of the background then the cutout part appearing down from behind the orange part of the background (at the exact same time).

Or, another way to put it is this. Imagine you have a line that starts out as nothing in the middle of the screen, then draws itself, at the same time (top and bottom), on screen. It’s like that, only the text is doing this. I know it’s hard to explain unless I can show what I mean somehow myself. I’ve seen it done and it’s what I’m trying to achieve. My apologies if I cannot explain it well enough.

Thanks for your efforts so far though, in trying to understand what I mean. It is hard to explain in writing. Your efforts are greatly appreciated! 😀👍🏻

Mr. Duit will be overseeing the maintenance of the estate, today. He would have uploaded the project, but it is the one scenario he has found where masking uncompressed AVI is superior to nesting. He was so astounded that he has been in solitude since the revelation. He does not want to burden you with eighteen GB of intermediate video. Please be understanding in this trying time.

Hi John! No worries! I understand. I know Mr. Duit is rather busy. I approached Howie Dunit and he was busy too. Then I tried Howie Canduit and, well, he too was busy. I guess they all got the same revelation. No problem though. At least anyone posting can see what I mean with your video and can go about seeing if Howie Duit will show them so that they can show me. 😀👍🏻

I will edit my OP and add your video to it so that everyone can see what I am wanting to do. Thank you for doing that, once again. Trying to explain in writing what I was trying to do then you managed to figure it out and do it, that’s awesome! 😀👍🏻

Here is the project file for you to reverse engineer.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Zzu2L6DP5PyEAiPf6JVmQQGAdiE93ECC/view?usp=sharing

This is the lite version of the project that uses PNG Image Sequences instead of uncompressed AVI files with alpha channel that I used originally.

Hint: Tracks 3-6 are used to create the files that are returned to Tracks 1 and 2 for the final render. There are precise mask presets that you can save for use in other projects.

Oh, thanks mate! Howie Duit was kind enough to give you the project file to give to me? That’s quite nice of him. Did you have to do some persuading or did he give it over willingly?

Joking aside, thanks a heap mate, and for the instructions. Awesome! 👍🏻
