Asking me to Register Software (Again) every launch

Haydn-Chapman wrote on 5/15/2025, 7:14 PM

Good day,

Recently: Vegas bluescreened my computer which gave Vegas the 'Error Code: -59' pop up which prevented it from seeing my license. I reinstalled, as you usually do, only for this time to now have Vegas CONSTANTLY require me to Re-Register every single program launch. Every single time.

It pops the 'WELCOME' screen up, makes me retype in all my information, and then half the time I hit 'Activate' it will say it can't establish a connection. Then I have to hit it again and again and again and eventually it'll give me the 'Thank you. The program has been successfully activated' and then I can get in. Sometimes, it activates and I can use it but it then says its registered to 'Trial'. Sometimes, it registers successfully but if I open the program up again: I have to RE-INPUT EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF INFORMATION to re-register.

Is the license in %AppData% or does it live in the regular install path? I have owned this software since it was under 'SONY', so the installation path is Program Files\Sony\Vegas\ etc - does this matter? Is the Licensing software dumb enough that it is unable to course correct to alternative pathing if it's not just under 'vegas' directly?

Pardon my language: but this is getting really fucking annoying. What is the issue with the license file? Why, all of the sudden, is it impossible for it to just permanently register? It doesn't even seem like you guys have a system in place to download a license file to resolve this issue.

Thank you,

Haydn C.

@Haydn-Chapman What is your Vegas Pro Version & Build number?

Haydn-Chapman wrote on 5/25/2025, 11:00 PM

Good day - it is Sony Vegas 14.0 BUILD 270.

I have attempted to deactivate, uninstall, and reinstall and the reactivate and still keep getting the same errors as before. Is it better for me to just torrent the software at this point? Because I'm at my wits end trying to edit this old project files.

Who even owns this program anymore? MAGIX? BlueCow? Where is the actually customer support and ticketing system for this software? Why have this online activation software if it doesn't actually work? I'm incredibly frustrated.

Is the solution going to be to just have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling over and over and hope something works?

I would assume the licensing handshake updates a file somewhere with the appropriate information for the program to acknowledge it has been paid for - why is it that *now* it is have issues writing to said file? Vegas has been working fine since it has been installed, and even more so the last two/three years with current hardware set up so nothing, at all, has changed from my end.

From the Vegas Help Support webpage (accessible by clicking on the Support heading in the forum header) and then clicking on 'Vegas Pro', the following advice is given about resolving error code 59:

In order to  eliminate one or more of the issues mentioned above, please apply the following steps.
Please uninstall the software using the Control Panel:

Find your program and proceed with the uninstallation process.

Please delete the remaining program folders under the following paths:

C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\[Software_Name]
C:\Users\*Username*\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\[Software_Name]

Should you not be able to see the "AppData" folder, you will have to change the respective setting.
To do so, go to "Folder options" in the Control Panel and activate the option "Show hidden files, folders and drives" under "View"/ "Hidden files and folders".

Then reinstall the program using the download version.
You can find the installer in your Service Center account at www.magix.com.

Start the program after successful installation.
If the activation dialog does not appear at the first program start, select Help > Register Online.

If this doesn't work, you may need to do a clean uninstall - which clears registry and other entries that a basic uninstall/re-install doesn't do - https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-do-a-clean-uninstall-of-vegas-pro--111205/. This involves deleting some Vegas Pro entries in the registry so care is need in doing this because there is no undo function in the registry.

BTW, just doing a Google search re error code 59 quickly found a Reddit post re this code. A response was that error code 59 occurs when Vegas Pro's registry entry re licensing has been corrupted. This may have occurred when your computer blue-screened.

When I had this problem I did a full reinstall and haven't had issues since. I assume it was a file getting corrupted.

@Haydn-Chapman asked

Who even owns this program anymore? --- Where is the actually customer support and ticketing system for this software?

1. Press release 01/28/25. (Btw. the last Sony-branded Vegas was v.13.)

2. As @Dexcon mentioned above, click VEGAS Support "New" on the top bar of this page and you'll see https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/

Then click (e.g.) "VEGAS PRO" there and on the opening page scroll to the bottom to "Contact Support". Proceed to "Send e-mail" > Fill the Support form and "Submit support request".
