Install the codec used in that AVI file. To find out what codec it is, use a tool like MediaInfo.

The screenshot here from an old SCS KB document is still valid. See also this FAQ.

codec says: pDAD

Marco. wrote on 8/6/2019, 2:58 PM

This is a proDAD JPEG/PNG based AVI codec. Do you have any proDAD tools installed?

Dean-Willoughby wrote on 8/6/2019, 3:14 PM

Yes. I am rendering a file in ProDad Heroglyph 4.00

Marco. wrote on 8/6/2019, 3:39 PM

Then just select another export codec in Heroglyph. This particular AVI one is not a good choice. Which are your choices?

Dean-Willoughby wrote on 8/6/2019, 3:48 PM

That is the only choice.

Dean-Willoughby wrote on 8/6/2019, 3:49 PM

The plugin works fine in 16 but won't in 17.

Dean-Willoughby wrote on 8/6/2019, 3:50 PM

Avi export won't work in either.

Marco. wrote on 8/6/2019, 3:53 PM

I'm confused now. A non-working plug-in and a AVI file not being displayed are two rather different pairs of shoes. If you try to use the Heroglyph plug-in in Vegas Pro 17 this maybe needs an update from ProDAD to make it work.

Dean-Willoughby wrote on 8/6/2019, 3:56 PM

I was trying to see if the plugin would work in 17, but does not. So... I was trying for a work around by using the stand alone version and exporting. ABI is the only choice and does not display on timeline.

Dean-Willoughby wrote on 8/6/2019, 3:57 PM

AVI

Marco. wrote on 8/6/2019, 3:57 PM

The manual says there is the choice of exporting either different types of image sequences or different codec types of AVI (AVI is just a wrapper which could contain dozens of different codecs).

Dean-Willoughby wrote on 8/6/2019, 4:02 PM

Two options. Export as JPEG single image or AVI.

Dean-Willoughby wrote on 8/6/2019, 4:03 PM

I sent an email to ProDad regarding updating. Hope it can happen.

Marco. wrote on 8/6/2019, 4:07 PM

Is it Heroglyph V4 Pro or Light (LE)?

Dean-Willoughby wrote on 8/6/2019, 4:11 PM

Light.

Marco. wrote on 8/6/2019, 4:12 PM

I'll check …

walter-i. wrote on 8/6/2019, 4:26 PM

I have V4 pro, it works - I normally use the standalone Version, because it's more stable.
I take the ProDad codec:

Properties must be "vormultipliziert"
and Vorschauqualität "Best-Full"

Hope, this helps
Walter

Just got the LE demo installed. You've got several choices. You can export image sequences either as TGA or as TIFF, with or without alpha channel and all would work fine in Vegas Pro.
You could also export an AVI animation with or without alpha channel which I can't test due to a bug in Heroglyph. I think it should work the way walter-i mentioned above.

Also, if you have latest LE version of Heroglyph installed (if not, download and reinstall) you can also use the Heroglyph plug-in in Vegas Pro 17.

OK. I uninstalled and reinstalled and it is working fine in VP17. Thanks for the help everyone!!!!
