How to import XML files?

InvictusManeo wrote on 3/26/2024, 6:28 AM

I'm trying to use auto-editor to remove silence in an audio file, but I cannot figure out how to import the altered XML file.
Does anyone know how to do this? I can't find anything on google or forums.

Welcome to the Vegas forum where issues about Vegas Pro and related products can be discussed. But as Auto-Editor is not a Vegas/MAGIX product, you will need to post your question elsewhere (maybe Reddit) or contact Auto-Editor's company directly.

Hi Dexcon, it's not an issue with auto-editor, it's working as intended. The problem is I don't know how to use XML files in vegas and I cannot find the right information anywhere.

XML is not a media codec, rather it is:

What is an XML file?

An XML file is an XML (Extensible Markup Language) data file. It contains a formatted dataset that is intended to be processed by a website, web application, or software program. XML files can be thought of as text-based databases.

The above from https://fileinfo.com/extension/xml

Please refer to Vegas Pro's specifications webpage for information about supported import formats, which are:

Import

Video: Apple ProRes, Blackmagic RAW, HEVC/H.265, AVC/H.264, MP4, MPEG-2, MPEG-1, AVI, WMV, M4V, Sony XAVC / XAVC-S / XDCAM EX / HD 422 / MXF / ProDisc / HDCAM SR, MPEG IMX, DV, HDV, AVCHD, Panasonic P2, RED RAW

Audio: AIFF, AAC, MP2, MP3, M4A, OGG Vorbis, WAV, WMA, FLAC

Image: BMP, GIF, PNG, JPG, TIFF, DPX, OpenEXR, WDP, DNG

Other: Premiere/After Effects (*.prproj), Final Cut Pro 7/ DaVinci Resolve (*.xml), Final Cut Pro X (*.fcpxml), EDL Text File (*.txt), Broadcast Wave Format, Closed Captioning (SRT)

It says here that it supports .xml imports but it refuses to recognise the .xml I'm trying to import.

Yes, you are right - but is your XML coming from either Final Cut Pro 7 or DaVinci Resolve as specified in Vegas Pro's import specifications? The specifications do not mention all sources of XML as being able to be imported - only XML from FCP7 and DR.

It's using the FCP xml file type.

Now we are getting somewhere. Your original post did not mention Vegas Pro but only mentioned something called Audio Editor as the source. Now the source has inexplicably changed to FCP - but which version because you didn't specifiy the FCP version?

I suggest that you lodge a support request with Vegas/MAGIX via the Support link in https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/vegas-pro--1/ (scroll down to the bottom of the page for the Contact Support link) in order to get a fully informed answer.

Thank you, I couldn't find a support request system on the service centre that's why I came here!

I use AATranslate to import an audio timeline from third-party applications, be it FCP, Premere, DaVinci, ect

To request a support ticket, see these similar instructions for Sound Forge,

There is actually a pinned post from the VEGAS Support team in Forum News Messages section advising the procedure here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/contacting-vegas-support--137601/

So if you use that channel, click "FAQ and Support", not "Service Center".

Btw, this moderator-created comment on the Support topic is pinned in the Offtopic forum. It mentions also the link to the Support team's post.

Here is a link to Vegas 'How do I contact tech support' instructions

Actually that VEGAS website link takes you to MAGIX (products) Support. You'll find VEGAS (products) Support through here:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/

Click "VEGAS PRO" and then scroll down to the bottom of the opening page to "Contact support". Proceed as advised there.

The procedure itself is similar to the one described in the linked MAGIX support document.

If the OP wants to PM me I'd be happy to convert his FCP xml to a Vegas xml and give him instructions on how to import that xml into Vegas

jetdv wrote on 3/27/2024, 10:04 AM

You could always write a script designed to import the specific XML format used by the other program. Here's a three part series showing an example.
