Necessary future improvements in vegas pro in my opinion

Amivideotek wrote on 11/19/2020, 1:29 AM

Hello,

This is my entire 20-point list with suggestions for future improvements in Vegas Pro in my opinion.

Hopefully you will see the point of these improvements and will apply for them as well. Union makes force!

1. Drag video-event without his sound

It would be good if, when dragging with the right mouse a video event from the timeline to another track together with pressing CTRL key, we could copy a video event with all the associated effects without choosing the sound by making a selection in a small context menu.

2. Zoom in and out in preview window

Zoom in and out the preview-screen without changing the entire Vegas configuration, as happens with many other video editors.

3. Turn Scrub on/off

Add a button in the Project Media list to turn the Project Media Hover Scrub on or off.

4. Marker numbering

Increase the marker numbering in the timeline to 999. Point 4 was resolved in vegas Pro 18 😀

5. Selectively Paste Event Attributes

Add to "Selectively Paste Event Attributes" the transition Fade-In Offset and Fade-Out Offset also at events without overlap.

6. Selectively Paste Event Attributes

Add to "Selectively Paste Event Attributes" the Video event Mask settings

7. Enlarge the Fade In and Out Snap button by the events in the timeline

Enlarge the Fade In and Out Snap button as it becomes invisible and not to be snapped when the Velocity envelope is at 1000%.

Enlarge also where necessary other buttons in the timeline

8. Update old video DX-effects to OFX-effects

Update all old video DX-effects to newer OFX-plugins. These DX effects are not always compatible with some third party applications.

9. Importing

Import .eps files as a Project media

10. Video Event Mask

The ability to import files into .png and .eps in the mask window as well as letters and symbols which can be used as mask.

11. Create Mask with brush

Is it not possible to integrate in Vegas Pro to make a mask also via a brush where the size, opacity and softness are adjustable? This would give Vegas Pro so many more possibilities.

As a result, the mask function could also be to masking parts (1) and can used be used a bit as a paint tool (2) and gives us many more possibilities to apply an smooth effect to video's with the mask tool!

12. Add New Empty Event button

In the Customize Timeline Toolbar, add button "New Empty Event". The "New Empty Event" button is used in all kinds of applications, whether as an aid such as an intermediate piece or as a helping marker, or in plugins for creating a text animation or a complete composition in a separate video editor.

13. I found some improvements to be made in ProType Titler :

    - Highlight the ProType Titler track when selecting a text in the  preview

    - Synchronize the ProType Titler cursor positions on the Vegas Pro main timeline

    - Quantize to Frames (snap cursor to frame positions)

    - Select, Copy and Paste the ProType Titler keyframes

    - The ability to mutually change the position of the ProType Titler tracks

    - Change an element anchor point by entering its positions manually separately from its offset position and have the ability to animate the anchor point

    - The ability to animate a path

    - Include presets for the path as circle, square, rectangle, triangle, star , ...

    - Improvement the path bezier handles (move handles separately to create sharp corners easier)

    - Rotate characters, words, lines and a whole text around his x-axis and his y-axis

14. Snapping to Mask grid

When creating a mask, I can't use the snapping points when the magnet is clicked on!

First the snapping points are hidden by my image! Only the points outside my mask screen are visible!

Wouldn't it be better to make the snap points visible within the mask screen?

Second I have to draw a random mask outside the mask screen, then I must move point by point from the random mask to the snapping points, which are now attracted to the snapping points (magnet is clicked on). So I can make a specific mask shape.

Isn't it possible to immediately create a mask attracted to the snapping points?

15. Change the scaling midpoint

It is not possible to provide in a next version to randomly change the scaling midpoint in Pan/Crop, as happens with the rotation midpoint?

16. More dockable windows

Is It not possible to provide in a next version more than 4 remembered dockable windows as in previous versions?

17. Sub-compositions

I use many small .veg projects that I insert into my timeline as a nested project in my main project.

This can include anything from a simple collection of different objects or to create a complete animation with text and images.

I do this to work more easily and to keep my main project in the timeline clear.

Wouldn't it be possible to create a sub-composition-event in a main project without creating a new .veg file (nested project)?

For example: In the timeline > right click > From the menu Insert New sub-composition-event >  If necessary, adjust the length of this sub-composition-event as with other video-events > Double click on this sub-composition-event to open a completely new timeline and create a new composition with his own tracks with video's, text, audio etc > Closes when you're done and go back to the main project where you only see the sub-composition-event that can be adapted as with the other video-events and where back effects can be added.

The whole project together with the various sub-compositions are written off in the same project.veg file.

18. Organize the Project Media List

I try to sort my entire list of used images, different categories of videos, sounds, texts, graphic elements and so on, which I use in a project.

In Vegas pro there are a lot of ways to do this.

But I'm looking for a way where I can divide an entire list (1) of items into different sub-folders (2), and once they've been dragged into a particular sub-folder (2) which I made and gave a name , then they must disappear from the entire list (1) with items.

It's kind of a move of items. If all items are divided into sub-folders (2), the entire list (1) must be empty.

And If I still use new media in this project, all these items will automatically appear again in the entire list (1), I     can immediately see these in the entire list (1) and can quickly place it in a particular sub-folder (2).

A simple solution for this : If I could have added several custom sub-folders in the Project Media > Media By Type, I could have placed all my media in a specific sub-folder. Now only Audio, Video and Stills sub-folders are available.

19. Copy/Paste media from Windows File Explorer

I would be good if we could copy files from a Windows File Explorer immediately and fit into the Vegas Pro timeline.

Drag and drop from Windows File Explorer work well. However, to have fewer different windows over each other, copy/paste a media file from Windows File Explorer and past it in the timeline would make this task sometimes easier.

20. Mute/Unmute audio button in Trimmer

Sometimes sounds in movies become annoying after repeatedly playing a movie to find the right part. Therefore, an on/off button is useful to have at hand.

...always hope, wouldn't you say?

@Amivideotek

There is a separate thread for it, it would be nice if you work it in there. The developers also take a look there.

@Amivideotek - Stunning list! My type of wishes too.

Amazing this in the OFF TOPIC Forum?.. How MORE on topic could New Ideas be?? Note to MODERATOR/S have a designated Forum for ideas - yeah? 😄

I hope they read it... I have my doubts!
I don't know what philosophy they make improvements to their software, but I haven't seen one in several years that I asked for!
And some in my list are really needed and I don't think they're asking for much effort!🙁

@Grazie you need to ask @VEGAS_CommunityManager about new forums or sub-forums. The MODERATORS are not able to create those. Your requests (including feature requests) will be noted though as many of the VEGAS team members regularly follow the discussions. The moderators are forwarding requests as well.

@Amivideotek et al.

@vkmast Understood. Time for a POLL for this. Or will my request for a POLL also get shovelled off to OFF TOPIC? @vkmast 😉

Grazie wrote on 11/19/2020, 3:01 AM

@vkmast - Thanks for the link to The Vegas Community Manager, who was last seen on the Boards over a Year ago? Quite happy for you, @vkmast, to correct me. Here it is.

@Grazie as far as the mods know, @Bri-Hageman is mainly the person involved in the VCM duties with help from @VEGASDerek and the Product Owner/Manager.

You might also make a request on the forum section of your choice. I won't be shovelling it off to another forum.

I send my list also to @VEGAS_CommunityManager.

I send it everywhere. Hoping that one day the right person will read this list of requests!

The overwhelming request from Vegas Pro users over the last few years has been stability, stability and stability rather than new bells and whistles no matter how useful they may be. Your suggestions are entirely worthy but need to be taken into consideration by the Vegas team along with all the other suggestions put forward by other Vegas Pro users. Please take into account that you are not the only one providing suggestions and that Vegas developers will likely prioritise non-essential though desirable suggestions based on the frequency of a suggestion. If one hundred suggestions are received for process XXXX but only two suggestions are received for process YYYY, it should be abundantly obvious which suggestion has the most chance of being implemented.

2, 8 & 12 you wont see that improvement anytime soon. Prolly in VEGAS 20 above, mostly partially. I doubt all of these will be rolling in future VEGAS Pro software.

Alot of this features/request is hard for VEGAS Team to apply. Due to legacy thing related to the software and they working in small numbers unlike Davinci which 100% get its support from BM

Exactly. If using my earlier example, 100 "different" people seek a new feature, then Vegas Pro devs are more likely to take notice of that rather than one person posting the same suggestion 100 times.

Some solid points here. VEGAS is growing, but it is indeed developed by a very small team, so you'll need to be patient with some of these requests. I do know many of them are already on the backlog of things to add, the team is working towards those goals already. Other things they'll be interested in seeing and adding to that list, I'm sure.
