Thanks Nick. Some problems there it seems. Even MathiasH's own link in the OT thread "How do we search" does not work.

We're all still learning so bear with me.

1. How do we embed images or Youtube videos in our posts on this board?

2. I notice that my browsers built-in auto spell checker no longer works when composing posts.   Please fix this this in your text editor.

3. Is there a board help file that describes what each of the items in this board mean?  For example to the right of a post is a dropdown titled "more".   What the heck does Direct Link do?

Thanks for all the help.

I also only read this forum from my workstation.

It links directly to a post within a thread. Then you can copy and paste the URL and use it to create a link. Quite a common feature on forums, and very useful for linking to an important post buried in a very long thread. Here should be a link to your post.

Edit 1: Hmm, that doesn't work. The link feature appears to be generating incorrect URLs. I'll leave the link as it is and now create the same link again then come back and edit it to see if that works...

Edit 2: So going back and editing it works. The link should be this...

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/new-forum--103103/?page=2#ca635906

....but using the blue link symbol results in this...

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/proxy/https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vegascreativesoftware.info%2Fus%2Fforum%2Fnew-forum--103103%2F%3Fpage%3D2%23ca635906

Let's try doing it the old way:

[img=http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21489814/vimeo20190131cropped.jpg]

Nope, that doesn't work 😢 ... How about just insert it as a link...

http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21489814/vimeo20190131cropped.jpg

Nope, that doesn't work either.

Seems like it's better in general to use the new "Upload File" feature than to embed from elsewhere (although there are cases when you would want to embed):

NickHope wrote on 8/25/2016, 12:57 AM

Having used the forum more now, I'd like to add that in my opinion the line spacing in code blocks is especially too large. I think most users would like to see code spaced as it would be in a typical text editor.

Also I echo others' wishes for the forum links bar ("Forum/Vegas Pro/Video/New forum...") to be repeated at the bottom of the page.

ushere wrote on 8/25/2016, 4:16 AM

and:

mark thread as read

go to last post

get back from bottom of page (yeah, i know home and end work, but...)

get rid of all the empty space - we're not children

and for goodness sake, show followed threads without having to deleve into menus to get to them. that really is poor forethought indeed.

oh, and as nick points out, instructions on how to link and / or embed video / stuff

oh, and don't forget the spell checker

There was a tiny bug in the link-processing which has been fixed, they should work as intended now.

Gary James wrote on 8/25/2016, 7:50 AM

Here's another bug to fix.  When I receive emails that a post has been made in a forum that I'm following, the subject line of the post is a generic text string that says "New comment in subscribed forum post".   This is completely useless.  The subject should contian a reference to the particular forum and message thread the post is from, so I can let my email client sort the emails by subject.  This would put each message thread in a different sorted group.

For audio, video and image just use the Upload File symbol.

For youtube videos just paste your youtube link and we're replacing it with video.

Right, but sometimes one would prefer to embed an image from another server rather than upload it to the forum. e.g. You don't have the rights to upload it here, but you have the rights to embed it and the server permits hotlinking.

Which makes me ask about all the previous posts migrated from the Sony Forums that used image and web links.  What happened to them?

They all were migrated as good as possible (some of the bb code was corrupted) to the new format as you can see here:

I got this grabbing from archives.

I found another bug.   My settings are for the United States, but when I hover the mouse over the icon that shows the number of replies, the popup is displayed in German

.

Another forum request for you MAGIX guys... The ability to show more comments on a page. e.g. 20, 50, 100, ALL. Or at least a setting to show more than the current 24. Even better if the setting sticks. This is a common feature of other forums.

It is good to know that the forum users are as demanding as always.

MAGIX have specifically asked for bug reports and suggestions for improvement. Now is the time to ask. I expect in a few days the forum design will get pretty much locked down and the coders will move on to something else.

DeadRadioStar wrote on 8/25/2016, 4:15 PM

I wish it was a little more compact though.

+1.  Let's have the default for big screens (it is a video editing product, after all) and if those who want to use it from their smartphones have a problem, then they can vote for that.

and please:

do NOT have default tick for 'follow his post' - truly a pita remembering to turn it off

have a 'thread read' click on main page - eg. the dot next to thread that does exatcly the same as clicking the thread - DUH

auto goto last post NOT last page when clicking 'answers'

and again, return to main page at bottom of page as well as top

this forum, and i'm happy to have it believe me, seems to have been designed for social media users NOT professionals who have limited time to spend getting where they need to go.

As an option to possibly auto-selecting different .css stylesheets according to the device used, perhaps MAGIX could provide us with a user-selectable "compact version for larger displays" stylesheet?
